  • This week on The Savvy Cast, Sean Hiller shares about the three most fundamental exercises we should all be doing and why they are so important.

    Episode At A Glance:

This week on The SavvyCast, I am joined by my son-in-law, Sean Hiller, to discuss the three most important and fundamental exercises. Sean is a PT, DPT, CSCS, and the owner of Vulcan Performance Rehabilitation and Recovery. In this episode, Sean shares just why these movements are so vital to our health as well as how to do them properly.

    Who Is Sean Hiller?

Dr. Sean Hiller PT, DPT, CSCS is the owner of the Birmingham Alabama-based physical therapy company, Vulcan Performance Rehabilitation and Recovery. Vulcan is a one-on-one physical therapy company with their methodologies based in strength, conditioning, and fitness. They have a location in Mountain Brook, Alabama and Inverness on Hwy 280 in Alabama.

The Three Archetypal Movements That Yield The Greatest Health ROI: Hinge/Deadlift- This is the foundation of all movement and therefore the most fundamental movement! These can be as simple as deadlifting kettlebells in your garage. Deadlifting teaches us how to brace our core and control our spine. Squats - Squats are the second most fundamental movement and teach us how to brace our core while we move our hips through space. Overhead press - These can help combat bad posture, especially a tendency to hunch over. Overhead presses are vitally important for the health of our entire upper bodies.

If you have any questions about these movements or general injury questions, you can learn more from Sean and Vulcan on Instagram @vulcanmovement and @seanhiller_physio or check out Vulcan’s website here www.vulcanmovement.com. Feel free to email or message them with questions!

Questions Answered In This Episode: Which exercises yield the greatest ROI? Should we squat where our knees go past our toes? What is the proper way to deadlift? Which exercises help with posture? Should we squat where our hips are below our knees? What is better: the machine or free weights? • One of the best skills the home cook can learn is how to cook intuitively rather than always having to rely on a clock! In this episode, I teach you how to cook casserole dishes, roast vegetables, and even bake cakes without your kitchen timer.

    Episode At A Glance:

Intuitive cooking and baking is when you are able to tell if a dish is done by the way it looks or smells rather than if your clock says it is ready. The recommended baking time in recipes is just that- a recommendation! Cooking times will vary depending on a variety of factors such as your oven and the type of pan or dish you use. In this episode, I share how you can tell if your dishes and baked goods are ready to pull out of the oven without relying on the clock!

Questions Answered In This Episode: What is intuitive cooking and baking? Is intuitive cooking a skill only experienced/professional chefs can acquire? How can I tell if my cake is ready? What should I look for when roasting vegetables in the oven? How can I avoid burning my casseroles? • I have been using Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates) to save money shopping for over three years now. In this episode, I share my best tips on how to make the most of Rakuten to maximize your savings!

    Episode At A Glance:

This week on The SavvyCast, I am sharing about one of my all-time favorite "savvy" shopping hacks, Rakuten. I love using Rakuten year-round, but it especially comes in handy during the holidays. I have been using Rakuten for three years now, and in the process, I have saved over $1,800! In this episode, I share how to use Rakuten as well as a referral code to get you started.

What Is Rakuten and How Does It Work?

Rakuten is a program that pays cash back to shoppers who make purchases online at affiliate stores that are listed on the Rakuten website. There are myriad stores, but a few faves are Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Athleta, Bloomingdales, and Macy's. Affiliates also include restaurants, hotels, and delivery services (i.e. Shari's Berries). Each time you visit an online shop, you will get a pop-up reminder that shows how much cash back the store you are shopping at offers. Once you click the activate savings button, you will get confirmation that you are getting savings with the "Congratulations" button. It really is that easy!

How to Start Earning Cash Back With Rakuten: Sign Up: You can sign up here for Rakuten and start earning cashback immediately! When you use my referral code, you support Family Savvy and also get a $30 bonus when you spend $30! Install the Rakuten button on your browser: Once you are signed up for Rakuten, you'll need to install the cash back button on your browser. Instructions for how to do this are here. Download the Rakuten app on your phone: This allows you to use Rakuten for shopping online and in stores with your phone. If you use the Rakuten app to shop in an actual store, you will need to "link" a credit card within the app. Questions Answered In This Episode: Why is Rakuten a savvy way to shop? How do I download Rakuten? How does Rakuten work? What are some of the items you have saved on by using Rakuten? Resources Mentioned In This Episode: Check out this blog post for more tips on how to use Rakuten to save big! Use this referral code to get started

I hope this has been helpful. I can't recommend this Rakuten shopping hack highly enough. I'd love to hear from any of you who have comments. If you have it, share your tips in the comments below!

I make sure to only recommend products I love myself. I've linked all the items mentioned in my podcast below, as well as some "bonus gifts" that are top sellers in my LTK. I have included gifts for everyone: him, her, baby, and even your fave canine.
