  • Is the situation actually complicated or is it really quite straightforward, but you're making it complicated because it requires a lot of courage to make the straightforward decision?

I read this question in an email from James Clear author of "Atomic Habits", and it struck a chord with me. So much so that I pushed back my original plans for this episode so I could discuss it with you today.

    Straightforward vs Complex Decisions:
I think the best place to start is understanding the difference between complex and straightforward decisions. Straightforward decisions typically have a clear goal, the outcomes are well-defined, there are only a few factors to consider and there isn’t a lot of risk if things go wrong. Complex decisions have more ambiguous objectives, the goals can be conflicting, and you are faced with multiple unpredictable variables. Most of all the stakes are high.

    What’s holding us back:
You also need to consider factors that might be affecting your perception of complexity. Having experience or knowledge around a decision can make it seem a lot simpler, whereas negative emotional states or external pressures may make it seem a lot more complex. We can also have biases in our minds that hold us back from effectively making decisions. Some of the most common ones I see affecting people are:

    - Overthinking: Creating problems where none exist.

    - Fear of making the wrong choice: Catastrophising unlikely outcomes.

    - Analysis paralysis: Getting stuck in endless evaluation without action.

    - Environmental and cultural influences: Workplace pressure and social norms.

    - Cognitive load: Too many things going on in life can leave us without enough cognitive resources to make a decision.

    Embracing Courage and Self-Assurance:
It is so important that we accept imperfect decisions. It’s impossible to always make the best choice in life, all we can do is move forward based on what we know. It is scary but if we focus on taking decisive action and staying adaptable, we can confidently navigate whatever comes our way.

The number one message I want you to take from this episode is that nobody is perfect and we shouldn’t want to be. The ups and downs of life are what make it great. They inspire us to grow and change and be more confident each day. So have a think about what decisions you’ve been putting off, and what it is that’s really been holding you back.

Until next time, stay courageous and trust yourself to make those bold decisions!

  • Are you on track for what you want to achieve in 2024? I've just gotten back from a fabulous holiday with my family, but as I sit back down at my desk, it’s hard to believe we’re already in Q2 of this year!

I personally use quarters as a time of reflection to check in with myself. Am I on track for what I want to achieve? What’s working, what isn't and what do I need to do differently to create the results I want at the end of the year?

Today I want to take you on that same journey and explore why we so often don't achieve the goals we ambitiously set for ourselves. This is your opportunity to check in with yourself and make sure you're on track to create the impact and results you want this year. What we’ll talk about in this episode applies to you as an individual, both in your professional and personal life, as well as your team or organisation.

One of the biggest mistakes we make when setting goals is not being clear and specific about what we want to achieve. While it's common to have general aspirations, such as getting promoted, it's important to define the specifics of the goal. I talk about creating a SMART goal (specific, measurable, attainable, results-focused and timed), so that we can ensure our efforts are aligned with our desired outcomes.

Another common pitfall is trying to work on too many goals simultaneously. Multitasking may seem efficient, but it often leads to spreading ourselves too thin and diluting our efforts. By simplifying our focus to one goal, we amplify our results. This focused approach allows us to push through discomfort and take the necessary steps to create exponential change.

I’m a big fan of creating a clear plan to achieve our goals. Without a roadmap, we may find ourselves shuffling along, hoping for change without taking intentional action. I talk about breaking down our goal into actionable tasks and milestones, creating a logical path from where we are now to where we want to be.

The truth is, no one can achieve their goals alone, and I’m a strong believer that seeking support is essential for success. Whether it's a coach, mentor or program, having someone in our corner who believes in our potential can make a huge difference in staying motivated.

So, join me as we get curious and take actionable steps to becoming our best, most successful selves on our leadership journey!

  • How would you behave if you were the best in the world? If you were at the absolute top of your field, what actions would you take everyday to maintain that level of excellence?

In last week’s episode, I shared my journey to truly understanding what I wanted out of life and my career - sparked by a mid-life crisis in my thirties - and how this led me to a life that brings true meaning and fulfilment.

While uncovering what it is you really want your life to look like is absolutely freeing, there’s more to it than just knowing. In this episode, I’m talking about taking action everyday in a way that aligns with who you want to be in your life and career.

So, how would you behave if you were the best in the world? This question often brings with it fear and terror, because we know that becoming the best version of ourselves requires brave action. But to achieve incredible outcomes in our work and our lives, we must choose a path that holds ourselves to the highest standard. What will you no longer tolerate in your life, from yourself and others? Which excuses will you no longer allow yourself to make?

Today, I'm inviting you to set a standard for yourself. Establish that mindset of excellence. Make behavioural changes that take you from mediocrity to being an impactful leader. And I tell you from experience that when we take the steps to be the person we want to be, that is when we create the results that we want. That is when everything shifts.

  • Someone recently asked me why I moved from project management and property development into leadership coaching. And I told them the truth - I'd had a midlife crisis!

I was in my mid thirties and to be honest, my life was going great. However, one day not long into my new dream role, I had this sudden realisation that I was already looking for what was next. I was searching for meaning in the next role and thinking that when I achieved that, that would be when I would suddenly be happy and fulfilled.

For many of us, the reality is that even when we achieve the things we want, we remain feeling unfulfilled and hope that the next goal on our list will bring us the happiness we so desire.

A startling reality for me on my own journey was that though my career meant a huge amount to me, I actually had to look beyond simply my career. I realised that it had become so much of my identity and was what mattered most to me - more than my relationships and even my family. Once I was able to step back and see how crazy that was, it forced me to reassess my life completely in a way that I had never done.

Now that I’ve come to the other side of that exploration, I truly believe it all boils down to one simple question: What do you want?

What do you want your life and career to look like? What actually matters most to you in this one, short life? These questions really require us to think beyond just our careers and the roles we have in and outside of work. It requires us to go deeper and think about what will bring us joy, happiness and contentment in knowing we’re in true alignment.

I do challenge you to really get clear on your answer, because once you know what it is that you truly want, that is when you can actually take the steps to create it.

  • If you’re like many leaders in the property and construction industry, you’ll know what it’s like to push yourself relentlessly to deliver results - even at the expense of your own wellbeing. And not only does this put undue pressure on yourself, it likely has a less than desirable impact on those you lead.

Today, we’re exploring the idea of how to “Stop Killing the Golden Goose” and the consequences of valuing short-term gains over long-term sustainability.

So what does “killing the golden goose” even mean? If you’re familiar with Aesop’s Fables, you may have heard the story of a farmer who owns a golden egg-laying goose. Now, in pursuit of more wealth, the farmer decides to kill the goose, hoping that inside he’ll find a lump of gold. The result? No lump of gold and now, no goose! The farmer has lost that recurring stream of golden eggs.

How does this apply to us? This timeless tale is a reminder that making sacrifices for short-term gains can be hugely detrimental to our long-term goals. In this episode, we’re talking about how to produce outcomes and get results without burning ourselves or our team out. We’ll also delve into strategies to work smarter, not harder, in order to set ourselves and our people up for sustainable success.

An important part of this, which is often overlooked by leaders, is ensuring that we nurture a culture of growth and support in our workplaces. By fostering open communication, encouraging risk-taking and empowering team members to share their ideas, we have the opportunity to enhance productivity while safeguarding mental and emotional wellbeing.

While the discussion around production capability and burnout is often boiled down to just taking on self-care strategies, I believe we really need to get clear on what it means in practice for each of us. And as we know, what works for someone will be completely different for someone else. So what are your key drivers, and what are your measures of success?

Having a better understanding of what is important to you will help you discover what you want your life and career to truly look like. In turn, you’ll find the tools to create the balance you need for your own life path, rather than following in the footsteps of anyone else.

So join me today and learn how to increase your productivity and that of your team for a healthier, more well-rounded state of being for all.

  • In our daily lives, the word "conflict" often carries a negative connotation. Many of us shy away from disagreement and avoid confrontation at all costs. But what if I told you that conflict has immense power and can spark growth in the workplace? Join me for this episode as we explore the importance of constructive clashes and why we need conflict at work.

    The Misunderstood Nature of Conflict
You can find this aversion to conflict at the core of many organisations, and there are a few reasons behind this. Firstly some people find conflict personally uncomfortable, so they shy away from it and don’t realise the potential they are missing out on. Then, some leaders like to surround themselves with people who will support and agree with them unquestioningly. Without diverse perspectives, innovation is stifled.

Finally, organisations can fall into the trap of thinking that conflict will make employees unhappy and, in order to attract or retain top talent, it must be avoided. Conflict without respect can be destructive, but a workplace devoid of conflict is not a healthy environment.

Constructive conflict focuses on ideas and solutions, encouraging collaboration and creativity. It thrives on diverse viewpoints, mutual respect, and a willingness to explore new possibilities. In contrast, destructive conflict places personal attacks over issues, leading to a breakdown in communication, trust, and productivity

Setting the Stage for Constructive Conflict:
Constructive conflict requires an environment where individuals feel heard, valued, and encouraged to voice their opinions. Leaders need to encourage their teams to voice their opinions, challenge assumptions, and explore new perspectives.

We also need to establish ground rules for these challenging conversations. For example what tone of voice or language is acceptable? Even healthy conflict can be uncomfortable, but having these guidelines allows us to stay on track and communicate effectively. Remember it’s not about who is right or wrong. It’s about coming together to find the best path forward for your business.

Embracing conflict in your business is not just beneficial, it’s essential. By redefining our relationship with conflict, we can create dynamic, inclusive workplaces where diverse voices are heard, ideas are valued, and positive change flourishes.

  • Have you ever stopped to consider how your thoughts shape your reality?

Think of your mind as an iceberg. The thoughts we are aware of represent the tip of the iceberg, while a vast realm of subconscious beliefs lies beneath the surface, guiding our actions and shaping our attitudes. These beliefs act like a computer program running in the background, impacting every decision we make.

From the moment we are born, our beliefs are formed and shaped by our experiences, upbringing, and societal influences. Some beliefs empower us, motivating us to take action and move forward, while others act as limiting beliefs, holding us back and constraining our view of what is possible.

    Identifying Limiting Beliefs
It's essential to identify these limiting beliefs that lurk in our subconscious. They often stem from inherited beliefs, past traumas, or societal conditioning; and fall into one of three main categories:

    3. Beliefs about possibility: these limit our view of what could be achieved, leading us to shy away from opportunities or dreams.

    2. Beliefs about ability: these center around self-doubt and questioning our own capabilities.

    1. Beliefs about worthiness: these come from low self-esteem and a feeling that you are undeserving.

    Reprogramming Your Mind
Once you’ve identified the limiting beliefs in your mind, you need to replace them with empowering thoughts. This reprogramming requires self-awareness and a willingness to challenge our beliefs. By seeking evidence that contradicts our limiting beliefs, reframing our thoughts, visualising success, and taking aligned action, we can shift our mindset and propel ourselves forward. It's a continuous process that requires dedication, but the rewards are profound.

Remember, the most significant changes in life stem from altering our beliefs and upgrading the programming in our minds. So, dare to challenge your limiting beliefs, embrace empowering thoughts, and forge a path toward a brighter future.

    You've got this!

  • Trust is the foundation upon which all successful relationships are built, personal or professional. Without trust, even the most technically brilliant individuals can become challenging to work with. I once had a boss who possessed immense knowledge and experience, but our lack of trust hindered my growth and made it difficult to communicate. This experience made me realise the importance of trust and its impact on our interactions with others, and that’s what I’m talking about in today’s episode.

    Understanding the Concept of Trust
While it may seem obvious that we need trust, its true meaning is often overlooked. Trust is not a light switch that can be turned on instantly. Instead, it is a gradual process that requires consistent effort and investment. Just like a piggy bank, each interaction either adds or withdraws trust coins. Respectful engagements contribute to building trust, while negative interactions and stress chip away at it.

    Being Present and Consistent
To build trust, leaders must be present and genuinely engaged with their team members. This doesn't mean physically being in the office every day but rather establishing real connection points. Regular meetings and touchpoints, whether in person or virtual, offer opportunities to get to know each other on a deeper level. Consistency is also key. Leaders must show up and fulfill their commitments to create a solid bank balance of trust.

    Being Open and Vulnerable
In addition to presence and consistency, openness and vulnerability play crucial roles in building trust. It's not about sharing every secret or personal detail, but rather about showing up as our genuine selves and admitting our mistakes. By being vulnerable and authentic, leaders create a foundation of trust that encourages others to do the same.

Trust is the cornerstone of exceptional leadership, that can help us unlock the full potential of our teams. So, let's take a moment to reflect on our relationships. Are they built on trust? Do they support us and encourage growth?

If there are areas for improvement, don't worry. With a little TLC, any relationship can be transformed into one based on trust and mutual support. Start prioritising trust and watch as it becomes the catalyst for extraordinary leadership.

  • Have you ever had that colleague who just does not understand what you’re trying to say? You think you’re communicating clearly, but it falls on deaf ears. Miscommunication can be one of the biggest barriers to success in the workplace, and I know firsthand how frustrating this can be. So today, I’m giving you a workplace playbook that will help you decode and understand your colleagues, boss, friends and even yourself a whole lot better.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you will have heard me talking about the DISC model. This is a powerful assessment tool that looks at people's innate personalities, and by using it we can unlock the secrets to effective communication and high functioning teams.

In this episode, we’ll dive into the four different behavioural tendencies or personality types:

    Dominance (D)Influence (I)Steadiness (S)Conscientiousness (C)

Each type brings something unique to the table, with their own strengths and weaknesses. The Dominant individuals are fast-paced, results-driven leaders, while Influencers excel at communication and building relationships. Steady people are great listeners and team players, while Conscientious individuals are analytical and detail-oriented.

By understanding these personality types, we can gain valuable insight into how others think, interpret information and what motivates them. This awareness allows us to tailor our communication to the needs of each individual, improving collaboration and creating more effective teams.

Believe me - by the end of this episode, you’ll start applying this model to everyone you know - including yourself! So join me today and learn how you can begin to create much-needed synergy between yourself and those around you.

With a bit of understanding, and a bit of tweaking and work, we can actually create a much easier, natural, open flow to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

  • Today, I want to share five simple steps to up-level your leadership. These five things will determine the amount of impact you have, the results you get, and how fun the process of achieving those results is. Whether you are an emerging leader, aspiring to become one, or already an established leader, this episode is for you!

    Step 1: Building Self Awareness

Self-awareness is key to effective leadership. Take the time to reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, leadership style, and core values. Ask yourself questions like: What are my core values? What drives me as a person? What are my strengths and weaknesses? By understanding yourself, you can lead with authenticity and clarity.

Step 2: Define Your Leadership Vision

Having a clear vision of your leadership journey can serve as your compass, guiding you and your team toward shared goals. Define a two-sentence leadership statement that articulates the type of leader you are and the most important milestone you aim to achieve this year. Visualize what success looks like when you achieve that milestone.

Step 3: Hone Your Leadership Skills

Leadership is more than just managing tasks; it's about elevating people, strategic thinking, influencing, and creating positive change. Investing in your continuous professional development is crucial to build the necessary skills and confidence to effectively lead. Consider one skill every great leader should possess and evaluate your current level of mastery.

Step 4: Build a Cohesive Team

Effective leaders understand the importance of building a cohesive team, which requires both trust and inclusivity. Reflect on how you currently build trust with others and consider strategies to foster inclusivity within your team. Remember, strong relationships are built with intentional and consistent actions.

Step 5: Cultivate a Growth Mindset

In a constantly changing business landscape, adaptability is crucial. Strive to create a culture of learning and growth, where everyone feels comfortable challenging themselves and taking risks. This will equip your team with the resilience to navigate challenges and seize opportunities.

Becoming an exceptional leader requires time, effort, and a commitment to personal growth. I hope this episode will leave you better equipped for your leadership journey. Take action today by reflecting on how each step applies to you and where you want to go.

Remember, thought without action is meaningless!

So embrace the exceptional leader within you and unlock your full potential.

  • You need to hear today’s episode. We’re talking all about breaking barriers in the workplace, and specifically how to create a blueprint to inclusive leadership. Whether we lead a team, aspire to lead or are just part of a team, it’s up to every single one of us to show up with inclusivity as part of our agenda.

I personally believe that no matter how great a leader or teammate you are, inclusion is something that requires intention and continuous work. Because let's be clear - all studies show that diversity increases bottom lines, increases engagement and makes society a better place. We need to be able to have open conversations about inclusion, what it means, what it doesn't mean and how we can do it better so that everyone shows up to deliver their best results.

From the work I do with organisations, I’ve come across many situations where people have been excluded - whether the people doing the excluding meant to or not. Not only can a lack of inclusivity be damaging for individuals’ sense of belonging and purpose, I’ve seen it erode relationships and negatively impact a team’s performance. And worse, for those in a minority group, it can compound their experiences with exclusion and perpetuate those feelings of being undervalued.

In this episode, I’m discussing the need each of us has to contribute to creating an inclusive culture at work. Through intentional actions, self-awareness and empathy, we can proactively dismantle barriers and promote an environment where everyone feels valued and included. From actively seeking diverse perspectives during decision-making processes to creating spaces for open dialogue and feedback, leaders can help transform our workplaces and the lives of those they lead into ones that thrive.

So, join me today and get ready to step up your game as a leader in inclusivity within the workforce.

  • In today's episode, we explore unlocking the power of your leadership shadow. We'll delve into what a leadership shadow is, how it's cast, and how to harness it for a greater impact, and better outcomes. Whether you are a seasoned leader or aspiring to step into a leadership role, this conversation is relevant to you.

Your leadership shadow encompasses the impact, influence, and impression you leave on your team and organization, involving communication, decision-making, emotional responses, and the reflection of your values in your work. Becoming aware of your leadership shadow is crucial because it affects not only you but also those around you.

Key Factors of Your Leadership Shadow:

    1. Decision Making: Your choices as a leader reflect your priorities and approach to problem-solving. How you communicate and explain these decisions influences how people perceive and relate to you.

    2. Communication Style: Your tone, methods, mediums, frequency, and openness in communication shape how you are seen as a leader. Every interaction, from team meetings to town halls, contributes to your leadership shadow.

    3. Emotional Intelligence: Your ability to show up, control your own emotions, and understand and respond to others' emotional responses is a key aspect of your leadership shadow.

    4. Values and Ethics: The principles that guide you as a leader and the behaviors you visibly uphold set the tone for what is acceptable in your organization.

    5. Handling Stress: How you respond under stress and set the precedent for others influences your leadership shadow.

I’ll also share advice on how to bridge the gap between your current shadow and the shadow you want to cast. Start by gaining self-awareness of your current leadership shadow. Then, get intentional about aligning it with your desired leadership qualities, organizational goals, and shared values.

Unlocking the power of your leadership shadow is a journey that requires self-awareness, and continuous improvement, but it’s a journey worth making. If you acknowledge and address your blind spots, and strive to lead with integrity, you can become an exceptional leader who inspires and influences others.

Remember, great leaders are needed more than ever. Why shouldn't it be you?

  • Today I want to delve into the most common mistakes I see leaders making and, more importantly, what you can do instead. These mistakes often act as barriers for leaders, preventing them from achieving the impact they desire. By recognizing these mistakes and implementing the suggested solutions, leaders can enhance their effectiveness and drive better results in their teams and organizations.

Using Your Self-Awareness to Your Advantage: Self-awareness is a crucial quality of a good leader, but it can become a hindrance when leaders focus solely on improving their weaknesses. Leaders should focus on their strengths and assemble a team that covers their weaknesses, so everyone can flourish in the areas where they excel.

Knowing Your Number One Priority: Leaders often fall into the trap of not identifying their number one priority, and without a clear focus, progress becomes scattered. Leaders need to determine the most critical goal and communicate it effectively to their team. This way everyone can align their efforts and work towards a shared objective, ultimately driving greater success.

The Art of Clear Articulation: Communication is one of the most challenging aspects of leadership. It can be really difficult to simplify complex strategies and ideas so that everyone can understand them. However, boiling down the message to its simplest form helps ensure that everyone comprehends the objective and can contribute effectively.

Leading with Humility: Leaders who rely solely on their charisma to rally their teams may limit their impact. By removing the ego and shining the spotlight on the collective cause, leaders can inspire teams to work together towards shared goals, fostering a more impactful environment.

Making Tough Calls: Leadership often involves making difficult decisions, and many leaders resist taking action due to the discomfort associated with these tough calls. However, true leaders choose to confront and resolve challenging situations to produce the best outcomes for their teams and organizations.

Creating Psychological Safety: One of our key responsibilities as leaders is to create a psychologically safe workspace. Without an environment that encourages communication, team members may be afraid to take risks, challenge ideas, or offer input, and work will suffer. A culture of psychological safety allows people to thrive and contributes to overall team success.

Applying Knowledge: Leaders are often avid learners, constantly consuming books, podcasts, and articles. However, acquiring knowledge without applying it can render it meaningless. Leaders must ensure that they apply the concepts and ideas they acquire, in order to maximize their growth and the impact they have on their teams and organizations.

As leaders, we must continuously evaluate our actions and behaviors to identify areas for improvement. By recognizing and rectifying these seven common mistakes, leaders can enhance their effectiveness, drive better results, and create a positive and impactful environment for their teams.

  • Are great leaders born or built? As a leadership coach and someone who trains high performing teams, I have pondered this topic deeply. What differentiates natural traits from personal growth and development? And what makes an average leader compared to a truly exceptional one? Today I take you on my own journey as we explore these questions and dig deeper into what makes great leadership.

We’ll start by examining an early theory called the Great Man Theory. It suggests that men - who historically held most leadership positions - are born with inherent traits that make them exceptional leaders. While traits like confidence, resilience and decisiveness are valuable, they don't solely define great leaders. I believe great leaders are built by having a personal commitment to being the best that they can be, and dedicated to a cause or a purpose beyond simply self interest.

Next, I dive a little deeper into the power of natural traits. I often see people questioning their ability to have a bigger impact when they don’t feel they possess those traditional leadership traits. However, being a great leader requires more than just these natural attributes. I take you through the DISC tool, which identifies four key personality types. While traditionally, most leaders have fallen into the Dominant category, the question lies, are they the only types of leaders we should have?

I then talk about the need for adaptability, a skill that I believe everyone needs. We live in an interactive, ever-changing world and the ability to adapt and evolve is more important than ever. To be able to pivot and meet the needs of any given situation is the key to lasting and sustainable results. We also need to be adaptable so that we can engage better with our teams and understand how to get the best from them. This requires a deep level of self-awareness to be constantly building who we are in leadership.

Whether you're starting your leadership journey or looking to make a greater impact, this episode will give you practical insights and strategies to help you grow as a leader. Remember, anyone can become a great leader with dedication and the right mindset. I encourage you to take the time and think about one way you could step beyond your comfort zone to lead better in your everyday life and work.

  • Welcome to Building Up Leaders in Property, I am so excited to be back with you!

We’re starting 2024 with a new name and today I want to share with you everything behind this change.

Diversity and inclusion have been at the heart of my work over the past five years. I have been dedicated to supporting women in becoming confident leaders within our industry. However, last year marked a significant shift in my perspective.

I began having conversations with men in our industry and current leaders about the changes needed to widen the pool of talent in our industry. It made me rethink the focus of my podcast, which was previously solely focused on women, and I decided to open the doors wider.

This podcast is now a conversation for anyone willing and ready to discuss what it takes to lead in the property space. We know that no individual can solve all the challenges our industry faces, but together, we can share insights, lessons, and ideas to become a stronger, more diverse, and more profitable sector.

We all must take personal responsibility for where we are in our leadership journey. If our current environment is not open to change or unwilling to put in the work, there are plenty of organizations and leaders out there who are. We must broaden our horizons and find the right people to support our growth, development, and the creation of a meaningful impact.

Remember, leadership is a continuous journey for everyone, regardless of their experience level. It starts with a big vision, understanding why you matter, and realizing that the people around you matter too. Have fun with it, play with new ideas, and surround yourself with individuals who will help you shine and seize the opportunities to create a significant impact.

Until next time, embrace the journey, and let's create positive change together!

  • Today’s episode is born from my own experience over the last couple of weeks of feeling there’s so much going on not only in my own life, but in the world generally. It’s been hard to stay motivated and focused on the things that really matter, and I know I’m not alone in this. So join me as I share four powerful strategies to help you reset and refocus when overwhelm takes hold.

Overwhelm can strike for many reasons, like a jam-packed to-do list, social anxiety or external factors like political instability and global events. It’s a natural part of life; however, it's crucial to recognise that it can affect every aspect of our lives. When we're overwhelmed at work, it often spills over into our personal lives and negatively impacts our overall wellbeing.

The first step in regaining control is acknowledging that you're overwhelmed. It's essential to confront this feeling head-on rather than letting it simmer beneath the surface. Remember, it's okay to feel this way. We're all multidimensional and complex beings. So rather than beat yourself up, I encourage you to take action and get back to being productive with these four steps:

    Eliminate AutomateDelegateBatch

I take you through each step and give you some practical ideas of how to implement them in your daily life. I talk about writing down your to-do list tasks in one place so give yourself a consolidated view of what’s really going on, and evaluate what is serving you and what isn’t.

Remember, life isn’t about achieving perfection but making progress, one step at a time. So, bookmark this episode as a valuable resource, whether you’re in the midst of overwhelm or to safeguard against those moments that try to sneak back in.

    You've got this, my friend!

  • Self-identity is often wrapped up in what we do, rather than who we are at the core. We tend to define ourselves by that specific role in our relationships or our job title at work. However, knowing who you are separate to these things is crucial to self-discovery and living a life that is truly aligned. Today, I’m building upon last week's conversation on reinvention by asking the question that we don’t often ask ourselves: Who do you want to be?

I believe that identifying the person you are now, as well as the person you want to be, is the key to making confident decisions for your life. Once you know how you want to show up in the different aspects of your life, be it career, personal relationships or spirituality, you have the power to live and act in a way that truly reflects your desires.

In this episode, I encourage you to take some time to recognise where you are right now, at this moment. What defines you? What matters to you? What motivates you? Identifying your core values will be your guiding light, shaping your behaviours, interactions and ultimately your choices. I share my own core values and how they inform the way I approach all the different areas in my own life, including who I choose to work and connect with.

Living intentionally as the person you aspire to be involves aligning your actions with your values. This may mean shedding old identities or beliefs that no longer serve you. I encourage you to visualise your life as this authentic self in all your interactions, whether at work, home or in personal relationships. Embracing self-reflection and vision setting will allow you to redefine yourself beyond your achievements or job title.

Remember, we are all works in progress, and you don’t need to be perfect. It's all about the journey of becoming the best version of yourself, and to begin showing up in a way that truly aligns with your most authentic self.

  • Today, we're diving into a topic that many of us can relate to at various points in our lives—reinvention. Last week, we pondered whether we were on track for our desired destinations. Today, we explore what happens when our goals and aspirations change, or the path we’re on no longer resonates with our current desires.

The messy middle of life isn’t the most inspiring place to be, and we often want to avoid talking about it. We feel stagnant, unsure of where to go next and a little lost. However, change is inevitable, and it’s during times of uncertainty and challenges that we grow the most. So if this stage of life sounds familiar to you, remember that you’re not alone.

In this episode, I share with you my own journey to finding my purpose and the right path for my career. I talk about achieving a life that looked great on paper some years ago, but left me feeling hollow and disconnected from my success. Accepting this reality and opening myself to new possibilities was challenging. The process of deep self-reflection and soul-searching wasn’t comfortable, but led me to the wonderful and fulfilling journey I’m on now.

So, when is it time for reinvention? If you feel like you’re standing still, stuck in Groundhog Day, or unsure about your next steps, these are signs to consider a new direction. Changes in industry, technology, or personal circumstances can also trigger self-reflection. Sometimes, it's your natural growth and evolving interests that push you toward change. I encourage you to push aside fear and explore reinvention, driven by your desires and not others' expectations.

Reinvention doesn't mean burning bridges; it's about evolving into the next version of yourself. Be open to your own development, recognising that we’re in our careers for 40 or 50 years now. You’re not the person who started your career in your early 20s, and you certainly won’t be the same person in your 30s or 40s. Change is natural, and embracing it will only help propel you forward as you navigate your life and career.

  • We've officially stepped into October, and with roughly 90 days left of the year, I thought it would be a good time to step back, reassess and see where we stand on the path to our goals.

Whether you've been crushing your goals or you're feeling a bit off track, this episode is for you. We're going to dive deep into three powerful questions that will help you gain clarity, motivation and direction to finish this year strong.

Firstly, are you on track? It can be easy to start off the year with some big sky goals and a whole lot of energy. However, as life’s challenges come and go, it’s even easier to move away from the plans we had set for ourselves. If you’re one of the lucky ones who can answer this question with a resounding yes, then pat yourself on the back and keep on soaring! Acknowledging your success is important in fueling motivation and creating that forward momentum.

However, for many the answer will be a no, and that’s okay! Perhaps we were trying to achieve too much in too many areas, or we weren’t actually clear enough about what our goals were. Maybe life just got in the way, and setbacks were unavoidable. Whatever the reason, it’s important to really look inward and identify where and why things might have gone astray.

So, what things didn’t go very well? There is always something to learn from our challenges, and being able to recognise where things fell short will help us course correct as we continue forward. Embracing setbacks with a growth mindset is key to development - remember, it’s not just about where you are, but where you’re headed.

I then encourage you to ask yourself what you could do differently for the remainder of the year. With a few months ahead of us, there is still time to commit to an area you want to focus on. Whether it's your career, health, relationships, or personal growth, choose one aspect of your life to prioritise. When we spread ourselves too thin, it can be tough to make significant progress.

No matter where you are in your journey, there's no better time to start than now. By answering these three questions and setting a clear intention for the final stretch of the year, you'll be amazed at the progress you can make. Remember, a lot can change in just a few months when you're committed to your growth and goals.

So join me today and let’s get on track to finish this year strong together!

  • The workplace should be a hub for productivity, learning, and camaraderie. Yet, for many, it turns into a pit of stress and politics. In this episode I pull back the curtain on the grim reality of toxic workplaces and the toll they take on individuals. If you've ever felt stifled, stressed, or simply curious about this widespread issue, this episode is a must-listen.

Toxicity in the workplace isn’t always blatant. It’s the subtle, insidious occurrences that often go unnoticed but leave a lasting impact. I dive deep into this, highlighting the often ignored signs - from broken promises by the leadership to a lack of psychological safety.

I also share my experience in a toxic workplace, the effect it had on me, and my breaking point of hitting a wall – both literally and metaphorically. I want to share how important it is to recognise when one's work environment is starting to take a toll on their mental well-being.

Once you’ve idenitifed you’re in a toxic environment, you need to be able to find your way out so I share some coping mechanisms to help you navigate these treacherous waters. From setting boundaries to seeking support, our guest outlines concrete steps one can take to safeguard their well-being. The narrative is clear: no job is worth sacrificing your mental health, and sometimes, the bravest step is to walk away.

While toxic workplaces might not be the norm, they certainly aren't anomalies. Anyone can find themselves in one but no one deserves to be there. I hope this episode equips you with the information you need to prioritize your well-being.
