Noël 2021, Eléonore, son mari et leurs deux filles se rendent à Copenhague pour passer les fêtes.
Le lendemain de leur arrivée, Céleste, la cadette, a disparu. Son lit est défait mais la chambre est vide. Les caméras de l’hôtel ne révèlent rien. Les clients sont alertés et une fouille de l’hôtel est lancée…
Quelques heures après l’arrivée de la police danoise, la jeune fille est retrouvée morte dans le sous-sol de l’hôtel. Commence une enquête à deux voix : celle de l’inspecteur en charge de l’affaire et celle de la mère de la victime.
