  • In episode 69, we explore Jacqueline's thoughts, feelings, and actions following a comment from social media. After she let that comment send her into a tailspin she took a step back and looked inward to figure out why this comment was bothering her so much. After putting in that work Jacqueline came to realize that this comment hit so deeply because she had actually been thinking and feeling living with the fear that she would actually end up back at 500 pounds where she started her journey. When this commenter said this it only reconfirmed what she was thinking about herself. After digging deeper still, Jacqueline had a bit more self-discovery to figure out what she was really afraid of and these fears of never changing her relationship with herself mentally, physically, and emotionally as well as her relationship with food, exercise, and her body. All of these points are areas that needed work and this comment allowed Jacqueline the time to self-reflect and realize that the changes she is making and the work she is doing are actually working as she continues her recovery journey. We hope that having these conversations about difficult times and making progress not only help us to continue on our own journies but help you, our listeners on your journies as well.

  • In episode 65 we dive into the thoughts, feelings, and emotions around wearing and not wearing a bathing suit. Jacqueline has found herself struggling to wear a bathing suit for a large portion of her life and we dug into why that needs to change and the mindset behind actually rock that suit. So many times when you decide not to wear a suit it has to do with the negative self-talk. After we get down on ourselves and someone else makes the same comment it affects us that much more. Our hope is that sharing this conversation helps other people realize that when you look inward and really think about why are responding the way you are you can overcome those struggles. We challenge each and every one of you to lean into those uncomfortable moments and use them as a way to grow and make progress toward your goals. • In episode 61 we talk all about vacation and travel and how hard it can be when you are on a weight loss journey. When we struggle with the relationship we have with food, it can make traveling so difficult. It can be easy to completely binge out on food or completely restrict food where you have to count your points, calories or bring your own food. Jacqueline talks about how she has experienced so much when it comes to her relationship with food and travel. She shares how she used to hate traveling because of that fear of losing control over food and the situation. She also shares how she used to bring her food with her on vacation and was praised for being completely restrictive and even losing weight while traveling. Jacqueline then shares how she completely swung the opposite way and would eat everything in sight on vacation because she would never allow herself to do this again once she got home. We talk about how both of these mindsets were unhealthy and what Jacqueline is doing now when it comes to finding balance when traveling and still feeling like she has control when on vacation without the need to binge or restrict. Jacqueline shares how she is finding balance and what is helping her enjoy vacations again without food taking over! Our hope is that Jacqueline sharing her experiences can help you along your journey.

  • In episode 60, Jacqueline and Kevin talk about how important it is to look within and to focus on your own journey no matter what anyone else says. A lot of times others may criticize us or put us down if they cannot physically see our challenges or struggles. Jacqueline has received comments about her weight and comments about how she is not making progress on her journey. Jacqueline shares her own experience with her mental health, negative comments and opinions from others, and how that can make her doubt the journey she is on. These same comments make her realize that she also has to step back and recognize just how much progress she is in fact making. Jacqueline is making important mental changes that mean just as much as the physical ones. Jacqueline and Kevin dive deep into the importance of being able to silence that noise and look within to be able to continue on your journey. To not allow the comments from others to derail you and the amazing progress you are making. Check out this episode for the full in-depth conversation about overcoming the negativity from others, especially when they cant see what they are commenting about.

  • In episode 59, Jacqueline talks about how it can be so hard to be proud of ourselves. We tend to focus on how far we still have to go and not realize how far we have already come. When it comes to reaching our goals, especially our weight loss goals, putting conditions on them can make the journey so much harder. Jacqueline and Kevin discuss the importance of looking within. We talk about how important it is to recognize and to feel proud every step of the way, not just when we reach our goals. We need to be proud of all of the steps we take every day to achieve those goals. It’s ok to be proud of where you are now while still working on getting where you want to go. The Yeah buts... only make it harder to truly see how far we have come and will make it harder to be proud when we are constantly putting conditions on our success. Do not wait until you lose weight or until you reach your goals to be proud of yourself. Be proud every step of the way.

  • In episode 58, Jacqueline and Kevin talk about a statement that someone made saying “If a 500-pound person walked into a Krispy Kreme I would be disgusted but if they are in a gym I will support them”. Jacqueline and Kevin go into how statements like this can be very harmful and how we cannot shame someone or body shame, someone, into changing. Jacqueline shares how she used to be over 500 pounds and talks about some insights as to how this makes her feel. She shares some inspiration for anyone struggling with their relationship with food and their body and how you can try to ignore these comments so you can truly be able to do what is best for you. When it comes to weight loss or extreme weight loss, wanting to change has to come from within. People can truly change when they feel loved, and supported, not just in a gym but in life. Jacqueline and Kevin talk about how making your mental health a priority is a key to success and how important it is to stop putting a moral value on food labeling it as good or bad. They discuss how it is important to change the relationship you have with yourself and with food. They discuss how important it is to never judge anyone because you never know what they have been through or where they are going. Ultimately we need to worry about our own mental health and remember to treat others the way we would like to be treated. We don't know where anyone else is coming from or what got them to the point in life where they are right now. Passing hard judgments or making assumptions about others can cause more pain than you realize.

  • In episode 57, we talk about listening to your body and focusing on the small changes and small victories that you are experiencing every day. Jacqueline is someone who has always struggled with her body and struggled with her weight all of her life. It is hard to sometimes focus on the small changes and small progress when it comes to weight loss and recovery and not just focusing on the end goal but enjoying all the small moments along the journey. The small moments on a weightless journey add up to big results. We discuss the importance of doing what is best for you and your body and how recovery looks different for everyone. It can be hard to not focus on what others might think and to truly just focus on what is best for us. Looking inward and being able to do what you need. Focusing on what your body needs is so important. We also examine the importance of listening to your body and how important it is to actually listen to what your body is telling you. For so long Jacqueline ignored her body and so she shares some moments experienced on our trip to Disneyland and how she actually listened to her body. Recovery is possible and we hope that the moments shared in this episode can help you realize that recovery is possible for you too. We hope this conversation reminds you that you are capable of reaching all of your goals.

  • In this episode 56, I share my tips for success when beginning my workout routine and how to get started in a workout routine. When beginning a fitness routine or working out it can be intimidating. When you are overweight, plus size, and working out for the first time it can be even more intimidating. It can be hard to know what to do when it comes to finding fitness motivation, fitness inspiration, and figuring out how to start a fitness routine. For me, when I was extremely overweight I did not know what to do for exercise. I began where I could with what I could do. I began walking every day for 5 minutes. This might seem like an easy Beginners workout routine or a simple workout program, but my 5 minutes walk every day meant everything to me. These walks helped to learn how to move my body, how to gain confidence in myself and it just got me moving. Walking is such a great workout and for me, these 5-minute walks were the best thing I could do.

Technology and Sports have always been some of Kevin's biggest interests. His passion for technology led to him helping Jacqueline with producing the content for her blog, social media, and YouTube. After being a long-time podcast listener he decided it was time for the two of them to co-host a podcast to dive deeper into the topics and content that she was already sharing. Kevin had a front-row seat to Jacqueline's Journey which gives him a unique perspective and insight that he is looking forward to sharing on the podcast.

  • Do you find yourself in the middle of a binge or a moment of struggle and not know what to think or do? This is common and before therapy, Jacqueline found herself in this position quite frequently. Episode 55 is a conversation about the exact thought process that Jacqueline uses when she's in that position. The first thing to think about and remember is that this feeling is not uncommon and it is normal to fall down or "struggle" These thoughts and feelings are absolutely normal. Growing and learning are not about preventing the fall but getting back up after the fall. When these moments happen take a deep breath and take a moment to breathe and remember that you are OK. Allow yourself to feel whatever it is that you are feeling, anger, sadness, frustration, whatever those feelings are feel them and release them then stand back up and keep going on your journey. After the moment passes take some time to think about what happened and if you can why it happened. Journaling these thoughts has helped Jacqueline tremendously. She can look back and try to connect certain feelings or situations with moments of struggle. Next, it is important to address how you felt physically and emotionally after that binge or struggle. This is another key step in using these difficult times to grow and get stronger. After you figure out what happened and how you felt take some time to reflect on those feelings to link the two situations together. Maybe this reflection helps you to figure out why you turned to food. The last thing Jacqueline thinks about and figures out is "What can I do to feel better about this situation?" Maybe the key to avoiding this situation in the future is better planning or better stress management, maybe you need to eat more throughout the day, maybe you need to talk with someone and address an issue that you are holding on to. No matter what it is that you need to do to feel better about the situation it is valuable to remember that you cannot change what has happened but you can look back at this situation and approach the next situation with a different plan or experience. In the beginning, it may not be easy to work through this thought process or experience but the more that you can reflect the easier it will become. You may not have the answers to all of these questions but working through difficult situations can help you grow and overcome some struggles.

  • This week's conversation for Episode 54 digs deep into self-sabotage. We dig deep into Jacqueline's own experiences with self-sabotage and how she is working on overcoming these difficult situations. We talk about a few examples where Jacqueline found herself in a situation where she very easily could have wreaked havoc on her progress by continuing to go against her best judgment. Jacqueline shares 3 tips that she has learned from her therapist and has implemented into her everyday life with some success. The first tip is to admit and be aware that you are self-sabotaging. When you are aware that you are doing this type of behavior you can work on stopping it or mitigating how long it lasts. Tip number 2 is to make small changes that are sustainable and can help you reach a larger goal. These smaller bites are easier to follow and do continuously. It is much easier to eat a cake in slices or bites rather than trying to eat the entire cake at one time. The third tip is to challenge or test yourself. After you have the first two steps down and you feel comfortable where you are it's time to put some of those changes into practice and see how you respond. It will be difficult and it may feel like you are failing but that is the place you need to be for growth and learning. When we create these situations for ourselves it is much easier to recover rather than trying to go through these experiences out of necessity in "real" life. Try not tracking something at home on a weekend and see how you respond. Try eating something "off" plan and see how you respond. It's much is easier to recover from these situations when you are controlling them not because you are out of town and there is nothing that you can do to fix or control the situation. We hope that this conversation about Jacqueline's experiences can help you if you are on a similar journey.

  • The 3 things about weight loss that are not talked about nearly enough.

1- It’s going to be hard Ya, I said it. Weight loss is not easy. If you want to lose 5 pounds or 500 pounds- weight loss is hard. It’s not just as simple as “stop eating and workout”. Oh man if I could only keep track of how many times I have personally heard that one. Just stop eating and move more. I wish when I began my journey at 500 pounds that someone would have told me the truth...this is going to be hard. When it became hard, I always thought there was something wrong with me. Why was it hard for only me! What I didn’t realize is that it’s ok that it’s hard. Hard does not mean impossible. So just because it’s hard, doesn’t mean that you aren’t strong enough.

2- You don’t have to be perfect. For so long I strived to be perfect, to never slip up, mess up, go over my calories...I tried so hard to be perfect because that is what I thought it took. If I wasn’t being perfect I wasn’t trying hard enough. Trying to be perfect only lead me deeper into an eating disorder. It’s not about being perfect. It’s doing your best every day and knowing when you “fall down” it’s ok! You just stand back up and keep moving forward!

3- You are not always going to be motivated I don’t care who you are, no one is motivated 100% of the time. I wish I knew this when I began my journey too. On days I was struggling and didn’t feel motivated to keep going, I thought, Why was I the only one struggling, why was I the only one having a hard time...why couldn’t I just be like everyone else. But what I didn’t realize is that no one is motivated all of the time. Realizing this has helped me so much. That is why it is so important to me to build healthy habits and healthy routines that I can stick to, so when my motivation is lacking I can rely on my daily routine and habits to help me out.

  • Episode 52 is an episode talking about Jacqueline's success with her relationship with food on our most recent trip to Disneyland. We dig deep into the day of thoughts and feelings surrounding Jacqueline's food choices. Jacqueline's thoughts and feelings surrounding food were very different on this trip and were a direct result of the hard work that Jacqueline has been putting in with her therapist regarding her relationship with food, and overcoming her binge eating disorder. We hope that this conversation about what has changed and what is working and not working for Jacqueline can help you if you are on a similar journey.
