Alexis Hejna and Diego B. Gleeson present their 2024 Best Animated Feature Nominations!
The Academy Award for Best Animated Feature is given each year for the best animated film. An animated feature is defined by the academy as a film with a running time of more than 40 minutes in which characters' performances are created using a frame-by-frame technique, a significant number of the major characters are animated, and animation figures in no less than 75 percent of the running time. The Academy Award for Best Animated Feature was first awarded in 2002 for films released in 2001.
The entire AMPAS membership has been eligible to choose the winner since the award's inception. If there are sixteen or more films submitted for the category, the winner is voted from a shortlist of five films, otherwise there will only be three films on the shortlist.
The Best Animated Feature nominees are all very different coming-of-age stories: Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (Sony), Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” (Studio Ghibli/GKids), Pixar’s first love story, “Elemental,” Annapurna Animation/Netflix’s queer breakthrough “Nimona,” and “Robot Dreams” (Neon), the bittersweet bromance from Spanish director Pablo Berger (“Blancanieves”).

Hazbin Hotel is an American adult animated musical comedy television series created by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano. The series revolves around Charlie Morningstar, princess of Hell, on her quest to find a way for sinners to be "rehabilitated" and allowed into Heaven, via her "Hazbin Hotel", as an alternative to Heaven's annual "Extermination" of wayward souls due to Hell's overpopulation. The series is produced by independent entertainment company A24 and animation studio Bento Box Entertainment, in collaboration with Amazon Studios.
The pilot, released on YouTube on October 28, 2019, was made entirely by freelance animators and was largely financed by Medrano's Patreon followers. A second season is confirmed to be in production. It has received generally positive reviews from critics.

Cooper and Radulich review the latest from Amon Amarth, Jomsviking.
Jomsviking is the tenth studio album from Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth. It was mixed and produced by Andy Sneap and released on March 25, 2016 through Metal Blade Records. This is the band's first concept album. Vocalist Johan Hegg described the concept of the album:
The Jomsvikings and their world is the background for the story of a young man that is in love with a girl but unfortunately she's being married off. He accidentally kills a man when this happens and he has to flee — but he swears to have revenge and win her back. He can't let go of the past. He feels that he's been wronged and his life has been destroyed. The way the story evolves is not a happy story — Johan Hegg, Blabbermouth

To celebrate the release of Man of Steel we look at the entire Christopher Reeve Superman franchise in a special 2-hour + podcast! It features the usual hosts of Mark Radulich and Sean Comer and they are joined by Robert Winfree and Robert Cooper.
In 1973, producer Ilya Salkind convinced his father Alexander to buy the film rights to Superman. They hired Mario Puzo to pen a two-film script, and negotiated with Steven Spielberg to direct, though Alexander eventually landed on someone else. Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980) were shot simultaneously.
For the third installment, Ilya Salkind wrote a treatment that expanded the film's scope to a cosmic scale, introducing villains Brainiac and Mister Mxyzptlk, as well as Supergirl. Warner Bros., however, rejected and retooled the script into their own film, trimming Brainiac down into the film's evil "ultimate computer". The final product co-starred comedian Richard Pryor as computer wizard Gus Gorman, who—under the manipulation of a millionaire magnate—creates a form of Kryptonite that turns Superman into an evil self.
Cannon Films picked up an option for a fourth film, directed by Sidney J. Furie, with Reeve reprising the role due to his interest in the film's topic regarding nuclear weapons. Several others reprised their roles as well, including Kidder (Lois Lane) and Hackman (Lex Luthor). However, Cannon decided to cut the budget, resulting in poor special effects and heavy re-editing, which contributed to the film's poor reception.

Cooper and Radulich are working overtime to bring you an extra dose of that MHOD you love. This week we are review Destroyer 666's Widlfire!
New 2016 album from Aussie war metal legends bringing classic Bathory & 80s thrash influenced hellfire anthems.
DESTRÖYER 666 have no need to prove anything. The band originally starting out as a solo project of BESTIAL WARLUST guitarist KK in Australia in 1994 has already delivered four highly acclaimed and influential albums that cemented their excellent reputation within the metal scene.
Now 'Wildfire' makes a complete fist that goes straight into your face. These nine heavy hymns are made of the essence of metal. There is no core, no post, no bullshit on this album – just great hard hitting song. Each track is hammered out rough and gritty, yet at the same time they all are intelligently arranged and massive in sound.
