Ep 4: Vegan Fitness with Nimai Delgado & Bianca Taylor

    · The ChickPeeps

‘Where do vegans get their protein from?’ is probably a question you’ll hear often as a vegan. Fortunately, insufficient protein in plant-food diets is a myth devised entirely by a misinformed non-vegan society, and even more fortunately we have two vegan fitness-buffs on today’s episode, both distinctly NOT lacking in protein, to show us that it’s possible to build strength and muscle with plant foods alone. Listen in as the ChickPeeps chat to the incredible IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Nimai Delgado, and Personal Trainer and Lifestyle coach, Bianca Taylor, who are challenging the vegan stereotype. Also on this episode…   Robbie and Evy talk about their fitness routines and how going vegan affected their attitude to health and fitness. Nimai discusses being a lifelong vegetarian. He shares insights into his Hindu heritage and being raised Hindu in the deep south. ‘Being a child vegetarian taught me a lot of acceptance, it taught me a lot of patience growing up.’ Bianca explains how she found veganism at a point in her life when she was ‘searching for something bigger to live for.’ How finding veganism helped Bianca recover from an eating disorder and heal her relationship to food. What the hec is a ‘macro’? Nimai explores just how much protein we all need and how we can in fact thrive on much less protein than is recommended. Why we shouldn’t demonise carbs and fats (hoorayyy!) Bianca: ‘I don’t consider it a diet, it’s a lifestyle.’ Supplements: Bianca and Nimai share what you need to supplement for an optimal vegan diet (‘It’s more for insurance than a deficiency.’) Tips on cultivating a healthy relationship to the gym and making it a passion rather than an obsession. Nimai’s ‘Mr.Olypmia’ goals! Does being vegan help this world? Nimai has done the math… Go-to quick pre-workout meals. Bianca’s favourite smoothie recipe. A helpful tip on not blowing up your nutribullet. Links Sign up to Nimai's new Vegan Fitness Website! 232: It's Time To Go ALL IN (With Doug Meyer & Greg Meredith)

    · The Learning Leader Show With Ryan Hawk

Episode 232: It's Time To Go ALL IN (With Doug Meyer & Greg Meredith) "Here's the issue:If you're going to pursue a low odds game, the reality is that at some point the odds will go to zero if you don't commit fully. You're never going to get across that chasm if you're going to keep yourself tethered to one side but that doesn't mean taking an unfounded leap into the wild beyond." Jim Collins gave me that advice on Episode #216 here On The Learning Leader Show. I've fired a lot of bullets over the past three years building this show and this platform while working a full time job at a big international corporation. The purpose of this episode is to announce that I have left my full time job to pursue my passion... My love: This show, this platform, this work, on a full time basis. It's time for me to go All In. The featured leaders tonight are two of my business partners (and friends), Doug Meyer and Greg Meredith.  Doug Meyer is one of the founding partners of Brixey & Meyer.  In his role as Managing Director, Doug serves as a trusted business advisor to Business Owners, CEOs, CFOs and Boards of Advisors, driving value and accountability.  Greg Meredith runs Brixey & Meyer’s Business Advisory Services team, which helps clients with strategic planning, project management, sales strategy, business process and system optimization and more.  I am bringing The Learning Leader brand to Brixey & Meyer full time to run the Leadership Advisory Services team.  In addition to the podcast, I'll be focused on helping clients be more effective leaders, managers, and coaches.  This is done through: consulting projects, 1 on 1 coaching, leadership circles (Mastermind groups), creating written content (book and articles online), and much more.  I could not be more excited to get started!  "Following your genuine intellectual curiosity is a better foundation for a career than following whatever is making money right now." - Naval Ravikant Show Notes: 3:06 - My career, what I've done, why I haven't named the companies I've worked for, who has supported this, who hasn't. 5:05 - Why I'm making this move to do it full time, the first lunch I had with Doug, the impact that lunch had on me, how long this has been in the works, advice that was given to me... The phone call I made to my wife Miranda after that meeting informing her of what I wanted to do... 6:40 - The exercise that Doug and I did -- "Write down everything you love to do... And write down the things people have paid for.  Let's build the business based on that information." -- The dream job scenario 8:03 Doug sharing why Brixey & Meyer is different from other firms and why... - The values: Having fun, providing value, passionate, driver of change, accountability, responsibility to the people of the firm 10:01 Doug sharing how The Learning Leader Show has positively impacted his life 11:48 - Greg describing The Business Advisory Practice he leads at Brixey & Meyer 12:07 - How Brixey & Meyer evolves and adapts -- Taking it to another level 13:02 - Why I decided to leave my job as VP of Sales at a large international company 14:09 - Finding a way to love what you do everyday 14:44 - “Following your genuine intellectual curiosity is a better foundation for a career than following whatever is making money right now.” - Naval Ravikant 16:24 - The scary part about making this change -- Side hustle to full time job creates a lot of pressure 16:56 - The incredible support from all of the people at Brixey & Meyer 17:47 - Why I'm motivated by people who believe in me... And my desire to prove them right 18:52 - "You're work is going to fill a large part of your life... And the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.  And the only way to do great work is to love what you do." - Steve Jobs 19:34 - The biggest challenge for Doug (managing my expectations) 20:25 - Doug describing that this was an opportunistic hire... Not something they were looking for, but why it was a no brainer when the opportunity arose 21:52 - The day to day actions - Helping leaders be more effective. Keynote speeches, leadership circles (Mastermind groups), Consulting projects, producing podcasts, creating content (books, online courses/articles), and much more 25:18 - Doug and Greg describing their current leadership circles and why they've been so effective (and will continue to be) 27:53 - The power in the peer to peer learning model that is created from Leadership Circles 29:22 - Rapid fire questions (for Ryan): Dream guest? And Bill said, "Doug, it's not them, it's you." 36:37 - How will you define success? "Success is fun. I want this to be fun. We are going to add value and be agile." 38:38 - The phone call I made to Doug when he thought I was turning him down... 39:06 Why 99 out of 100 people would not have left the corporate job to do this?  Doug's thoughts... And why I did. 40:35 - Defining your personal hedgehog 41:46 - The unique qualities I will bring to this role -- What's different from books or articles 45:54 - How I define the makeup of a great leader... "It's Washington versus America's young—not boomers and the Silent Generation."  In Disinherited, Meyer and his co-author Diana Furchtgott-Roth point blame at a wide range of government policies that threaten to leave millennials worse off than Gen Xers and previous generations. When the education system isn't failing kids in K-12, it's charging them exorbitant amounts for college degrees that confer less and less advantage. Fiscal policy, debt, and labor laws are squeezing out opportunities for go-getters and entrepreneurs. And then there's unsustainable old-age entitlements, such as Social Security and Medicare, that take money from the relatively young and poor Americans and give it to older, wealthier people. "Politicians sold a false bill," Meyer tells Reason's Nick Gillespie. "They said: 'All these programs that you are paying for now, you're going to get the money you paid in later.' But they've made promises where they give benefits now and push the cost off to the future, which means current retirees are getting far more back then what they paid in." Published on Sep 23, 2015 For downloadable links and more info go here: https://reason.com/reasontv/2015/09/2...   Segment 3- Prager U Interview with Jared Meyer! · ESL Podcast - Previous Episodes

Do you think you have what it takes to be a good manager? Find out in this episode. Slow dialog: 1:23 Explanations: 3:56 Fast dialog: 18:07 Bianca: Today’s the day. We’re supposed to find out who the new manager is going to be. I hope they’re not making a mistake by hiring internally. Conrad: I just hope they don’t pick Melissa. She would be a disaster. Bianca: Why do you say that? I like Melissa. Conrad: I like her, too, but she can be so autocratic. Give her a little power and it goes to her head. Every decision would be top-down. Bianca: You might be right, but I think Quentin would be worse. He would be so laissez-faire that it would be like not having a manager at all. He’d delegate everything and then sit back and do nothing. Conrad: I’ll grant you that. Quentin would be a horrible manager. What about Jemima? She’s popular with nearly everybody in the office. Bianca: I suppose Jemima would be a bearable option. She likes to collaborate and often consults with other people to get their feedback. But I’m backing a different horse, one that would be the ideal. Conrad: Who? Bianca: You. Conrad: Me? No way. I don’t have a chance in hell. And plus, how do you know I’d be a good manager? Bianca: You’d be democratic in your decision-making and I’d like that. You wouldn’t rule with an iron fist. Conrad: That’s what you think. Give me a little power and you can start calling me commandant. Script by Dr. Lucy Tse

Commentary: Trek Stars 12: Professional Fan Fiction

    · Commentary: Trek Stars: The Work of Star Trek Creators Outside of Star Trek

Meyer Part 3: The Seven-Per-Cent Solution. Star Trek fans know Nicholas Meyer as the man who took a great franchise and made it even better. But prior to delving into the lives of Captain Kirk and Mister Spock, Meyer left his mark on another beloved fictional character: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. This week, Mike and Max are joined by Nicholas Meyer expert John Tenuto to look at Meyer’s first Holmes novel, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution. We discuss the book as a piece of fan fiction, the idea of re-writing canon to make it work better, how the book stacks up against other expanded universe Holmes stories, Meyer’s ability to work within a pre-existing continuity, the similarities between this book and Meyer’s other works, Meyer’s fondness for pairing historical figures with fictional characters, the film adaptation, and the Undiscovered Country connection. We also touch on the possibility of Khan appearing in Into Darkness, and John reveals the premise for a very dark subplot which was cut from The Wrath of Khan.

Show 423 Date: June 23, 2009 Speaker: Author Stephen C. Meyer, Ph.D. Location: The Heritage Foundation's Allison Auditorium  In Signature in the Cell, Dr. Stephen Meyer examines how the digital code embedded in DNA points powerfully to a designing intelligence and helps unravel a mystery that Darwin did not address: how did the very first life begin?  Join us as Dr. Meyer investigates how new scientific discoveries are pointing to intelligent design as the best explanation for the complexity of life and the universe.     How does an intelligent person become a proponent of Intelligent Design?  Anyone who stereotypes IDers as anti-scientific ideologues or fundamentalists should read Dr. Stephen Meyer's compelling intellectual memoir.  Meyer as a student became fascinated with the "DNA Enigma” - how the information to produce life originated – and at considerable risk to his career hasn"t given up trying to solve the mystery.  Meyer shows how step by step he concluded that Intelligent Design is the most likely explanation of how the DNA code came to be.         – Dr. Marvin Olasky, Provost, The King’s College, New York City and Editor-in-chief.  Stephen C. Meyer is Director and Senior Fellow of the Center for Science and Culture at the Discovery Institute in Seattle.  Dr. Meyer earned his Ph.D. in the History and Philosophy of Science from  Cambridge University for a dissertation on the history of origin of life biology and the methodology of the historical sciences.  Purchase Signature in the Cell: DNA Evidence for Intelligent Design
