  • Tee-Cee Bailey has been in the live music industry for 26 years. She has mixed FOH and monitors but prefers the monitor side of the snake. She is also an accomplished production assistant/production manager.

    Tee-Cee has toured with Mila Mason, Mindy McCready, Tim McGraw, Leanne Womack and Martina McBride, but has been the primary monitor engineer for Trisha Yearwood since 1998. Tee-Cee joined the Garth Brooks World Tour starting in 2014. She is currently the monitor engineer for Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks

    Hailing from South Carolina, she is a classically trained French Horn Player with a degree from North Greenville College. She is also a graduate from Middle Tennessee State University’s Recording Industry Management Program.

    When not on tour, Tee-Cee resides in Nashville, TN, where she can be found tending to Bailey’s Backyard Birdbath, BBQ, Bar and Banana Bread Bungalow.

  • FotHF host Russ Long and Signal To Noise co-host Chris Leonard teamed up with front of house engineer Tim Holder (currently mixing Carrie Underwood) and long-time recording engineer Paul Andrews (also currently business development manager for DPA Microphones) to focus on the importance of paying attention to and understanding every component in a sound system signal chain.

    The live event was presented on ProSoundWeb’s Facebook and YouTube channels, offering listeners around the world an opportunity to listen in and participate in the conversation. It is also available as an audio-only podcast.

    Tim Holder is a live FOH mixer, studio owner and 1970s vintage audio enthusiast who's worked for 20-plus years with Clair Global and is based in Nashville. Currently working with Carrie Underwood, other clients include Steven Tyler, Kenny Chesney, Enrique Iglesias, John Fogerty and Simon & Garfunkel.

    Tim's passion for audio has led him on a global journey providing a lifetime of learning experiences and relationships with great friends to share them with. His knowledge of vintage audio gear and how to get the revered sound of the '70s is a specialty. A touring bass player in the 1980s and 90s, he also has extensive systems engineer experience -- just the right combination of art and tech.

    Paul Andrews, owner/engineer of Bridge Recording Studios in Nashville, is also a global sales support/business development manager for DPA Microphones. He regularly works industry leading engineers/producers such as Al Schmitt, Bruce Swedien, Brent Maher, and Chuck Ainlay, to name a few, and he's recorded artists such as Kris Kristofferson, Boyz II Men, Victor Wooten, Dennis Chambers, Bill Evans, Pete Huttlinger, The CSU Symphony Orchestra and Big Band, Seth MacFarlane, Peter Erskine, and Great White.

    Growing up, he attended Denver University on scholarship in classical guitar studying under Ricardo Iznaola, and then joined the staff at A&M Records where he worked with Sheryl Crow, Aerosmith and Danzig among others. Today, you’ll find him recording many different styles of music, ranging from classical to jazz to punk. He also travels internationally conducting workshops and live seminars for DPA Microphones, educating industry professionals on microphone technologies and best practices.

  • On the evening of August 11, two teams from the ProSoundWeb Network joined forces to host “The FOH & Monitor Engineer Relationship” LIVE, the first-ever Front of the House Fridays live event. FofHF host Russ Long and Signal To Noise co-host Chris Leonard teamed up with FOH engineer Chris Taylor and monitor engineer Robert Bull to talk about mix strategies and how two sides of the same coin successfully come together. Here’s the recording of the live event:

    After a stint running his own sound company, musician, mix engineer and sound system designer Chris Taylor decided to concentrate more on the artistic side of the touring industry. He began providing mixing and production skills to Contemporary Christian artists such as Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and DeGarmo and Key Band. During the next number of years he also mixed tours for artists such as Barbara Streisand, David Foster, Janet Jackson, Jewel, Kitaro, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more. Additional achievements include mixing for TV Award Shows as well as handling audio coordination and design.     Chris started in the audio Industry in the mid-1970s when he built a sound system and started renting it to local and touring acts out of Memphis, Tennessee. During this time, he provided sound systems and mixed FOH for a number of notable country acts including Charlie Rich, Kenny Rogers, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, DeGarmo and Key Band, and Amy Grant.

    In addition to touring, Chris has also worked on many live video productions. He mixed a number of David Foster Hit Man Shows and also provided the live music mix for the Grammys, Latin Grammys, CMA awards, and Garth Brooks Central Park Show.

    In 2002 Chris went to work for Yamaha Corporation of America after years of traveling on the road with many artists. He worked in the R&D area for Yamaha Japan and helped in the development of the new Rivage Console Line. He is now working as a part time consultant for Yamaha and occasionally mixes a few one-off shows such as the last CDB Volunteer and the Loretta Lynn Birthday Celebration.

    In Episode 7, Russ is joined by FOH Engineer Dan Heins. Dan acquired his mixing skills by working with several local bands in the regions robust live music scene during his 4 years at Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas.

    In 1989 he went to work with John McBride at MD Systems in Wichita, KS, relocating with them to Nashville in 1990. His duties included operations manager, system engineering and mixing front of house for Garth Brooks. He cultivated a positive working relationship with the Garth Brooks crew that he still serves as Brooks’ trusted FOH engineer to this day.

    MD Systems became a part of Clair in 1995 and in 1999, Dan helped establish the integration divisions’ first satellite location in Nashville, TN. He was promoted to Regional Vice President following years of hard work and dedication. Through the years, he’s worked on many prestigious installation projects including the Grand Ole Opry, Ryman Auditorium.

  • For this episode, FOTH becomes Front Of The Hull as Michael (Coach) Conner is interviewed while sitting on his boat (which is obvious by the wind and water sounds in the background). Michael is a live mix engineer who specializes in FOH mixing and large format live sound systems. He has toured with Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Sam Smith, Ray Price and others. His career spans thirty plus years including both theater and live music.

    Michael is currently the FOH engineer for Steely Dan and Paul Simon. He lives in Beach Haven New Jersey and can often be found on his sailboat looking for that socket he dropped into the bilge.

Currently he’s on the production team at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, where he’s mixed monitors (using a Yamaha RIVAGE PM10 console) for more than 450 acts in just three years.

    Originally from Minnesota, Bob spent the 1980s working with some great club-level acts in the Midwest and then relocated to Nashville. He worked with Clair Brothers for almost 20 years and has mixed countless acts on TV and award shows, festivals and tours. A few of his many highlights include the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, CMA Festival, Bonnaroo, Sara Evans, Wynonna, Stephen Curtis Chapman, and Keb Mo. In his spare time, he’s honed his skills with audio wiring and system installations.

    Bob resides in lovely Kingston Springs TN with his wife of 19 years, along with four dogs and a great fire pit. Recently he became a grandpa and is an avid lover of the outdoors, skiing, hiking, and kayaking.

  • Welcome to the Front of the House Fridays (FotHF) podcast series on the ProSoundWeb Network, presented every Friday by Yamaha Pro Audio and hosted by veteran live and studio engineer Russ Long, who records his conversations with noted audio professionals literally in front of their homes in following current social distancing guidelines.

    In Episode 2, Russ talks with Rick May, who shares his unique career path as a musician and a noted front of house engineer. Rick began as a producer/engineer based in the Columbus, Ohio area, and also a drummer, he was half of the duo that formed the band The Walter Eugenes (on the Star Song Communications label) in the early 1990s.

    After that he became the drummer for popular Christian rap/rock group dc Talk, who he toured with for seven years before founding an audio and lighting production company. Some of the bands and artists he’s served as FOH engineer for include Twenty One Pilots, Tenth Avenue North, Hawk Nelson, Family Force Five, Emery, Kmax, Dennis Quaid and The Sharks, Sanctus Real, and KJ52.

    Currently FOH for MercyMe, Rick describes himself as a creative mix engineer who’s always in pursuit of making the live concert experience unforgettable. He resides in Columbus with his wife and son.

    Host Russ Long is a top touring and multi-platinum recording and mix engineer who’s worked in professional audio for more than 30 years. Following a decade as Steven Curtis Chapman’s FOH engineer, he has spent over 12 years mixing FOH for Amy Grant, and has also mixed numerous high-profile events such as the KLOVE Music awards, the Challenge America Musical Gala at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and Barbara Bush’s 90th birthday concert featuring Reba McEntire, Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant. In addition, he’s been part of the audio team for numerous broadcast events such as the Grammy Awards, the CMA Awards, ABC’s “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” TV Special, and more. Russ is currently part of Yamaha’s console R&D team.

    Talking in front of Todd’s beautiful Nashville-area home, the two discuss how Todd has built his career, life on the road, developing musical relationships with artists, mix approaches and techniques, and more. Through it all, Todd’s passion for combining the art and science of modern sound and recording technology to deliver memorable musical experiences to audiences shines clearly through.
