Life in the mob was hell for Freddie Cobo. By 1978 he'd crossed lines he thought he'd never cross — including committing multiple murders. But getting out of "the life" was easier said than done, especially when your boss is the most vicious and feared mobster in the city.

In 2002, somebody broke into Big Ed's Junkyard and "stole" 7 old, out-of-circulation school buses. But rather than drive them out of the open gate to get away, the thief or thieves simply left the old buses stranded against the fence inside the yard... why?
That's exactly what Miss Monette is determined to figure out. But will this seemingly unimportant mystery unravel into something much bigger than a simple break-in gone bad? Does this odd little happening even really matter? The answer to both of these questions is a resounding YES.

I wasn't sure if there would be any connection on this visit with relatives. All I knew was that I wanted to sit down with family and press record. I had no idea how special the conversation would turn out. In our second SSH true tale, you'll hear a story that stretches all the way back to the Second World War. I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. Only time will tell.

As the first season of SEVERAL STORIES HIGH comes to a close (and as you can probably tell from the little bendy lines in the title (and these ones too...oooh, double bendies!)), I do hope you enjoy one last story (for now!), namely in today's tale: "The Dollars and Scents of Smell", in which a freelance journalist named Rudy sets out to track down the heiress to the Smell fortune. And yes, you read that correctly: The Smell fortune, as in the Smell Family, as in...THE INVENTORS OF THE SENSE OF SMELL. But one question remains: Can our freelancing sleuth make it to the Smell estate and back in one piece? There's only one way to find out (I checked). Shall we begin?
