  • Sean Supon of the Iron Neck is our guest. In this episode Sean and I discuss neck specific training as a way to prevent concussions, correct posture and just live better. Not only is this product interesting, it works in all planes and all ranges of motion. The Iron Neck was invented by Mike Jolly in 2012 in response to seeing the impact of CTE on former UCLA Football teammates and the rise in concussions in young athletes as a high school and college football coach. Mike began researching ways to prevent concussions and focused on two growing areas of research: neck strengthening as a proactive measure to reduce concussion risk and the increased threat of rotational forces on the brain. As a certified trainer and former fitness gym owner, Mike saw that existing neck strengthening equipment and methods were not effectively training the neck the way it naturally moves. Mike turned to his wife's pilates bands, which created rotational resistance during neck exercises. Thanks to the help of a family friend with a machining shop, Mike had the original Iron Neck prototype completed a week later.
