  • We have been thinking about how we can level up the podcast and what better way to add to the conversation than by bringing in people we admire and that we can learn from as guests.

As the saying goes... "If you’re the smartest person in the room, get out of the room."

This week we talk to Peter Crone, the mind architect.

Peter is a writer, speaker and thought leader, specializing in spiritual freedom, mental peace and physical vitality. He has worked with world-class entertainers, pro-athletes and global organizations, such as Arizona Diamondbacks all-star Paul Goldschmidt, LPGA Champion I.K Kim and Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow -- just to name a few.

His philosophy is simple, redesign your subconscious mind to inspire a new way of living in freedom and joy rather than limitation and stress.

In this conversation we talk to Peter about his journey, how he went from a lad growing up in rural south England to living his best life in sunny Southern California and helping people from all walks of life unlock their potential.

We get Peter's take on truth, love & understanding and trusting our own perceptions of reality and the decisions we make in life.

    Daniel and Leggy

  • Leggy and Daniel revisit the topic of breakups in this week’s episode of 2 LADS, but first they check in with Daniel at an 8 while working on location in South Africa and Leggy at a 7.5 and discussing some recent activity on social media and concluding that the podcast won't be for everybody. Then the 2 LADS get back into breakups—a conversation they started earlier in the season—and how they believe you can use the pain of breakups to build yourself up stronger. They also discuss going into relationships consciously trusting that you’ll be ok even if it doesn’t work out, being so dialed you don't want a relationship and Daniel’s journey to getting to know his body better.

The 2 LADS podcast tackles big topics with brutal honesty and vulnerability; replacing shame and guilt with truth and love in the quest for emotional and spiritual growth. These conversations are unflinching, uncomfortable, funny... and ongoing.

    JUMP STRAIGHT INTO:

(01:50) - The check in - “It's not going to be for everybody, this. And you get to decide whether you enjoy it or you don't, and we're down for it all.”

(14:20) - Expecting every need from one person - “These are the building blocks of you being a fucking man in the world or being a functioning adult. You've got all these basics covered so that you can actually enter into a relationship with someone else on a higher level.”

(17:25) - Breakups can build you back up - “When you're in it, it feels like hell and it will last forever, but there's building blocks that get built up over time and they reprogram your brain to feel much more supported.”

(26:16) - Picking and choosing - “It's like five of your girlfriend are on this carousel, and one of them, you love, right? And you're like, ‘I like that one, that one, but only be that. I don't like any of this other stuff. I want you to change all this other stuff.”

(29:15) - Being too dialed for a relationship - “Ultimately, in order to love, you have to risk getting hurt. You can't do it any other way. You have to know that you can be open and accept love, and know that you are going to survive it if that goes away.”

(30:33) - Sit in your feelings - “Your relationship to love and sex is skewed in some way, because it is giving you the endorphins of not feeling your feelings. So if you take it away, then  it comes to the forefront of your mind.”

(37:06) - The green light of approval - “Even the act of going into a program, it was about approval, you know, because in some way I did it to prove it to somebody.”

  • After catching up on what they’ve been doing since their last check in—journeying, seeing psychics, visiting family, and filming on location among other things—Leggy and Daniel revisit the topic of love in this episode. This time they focus a little more on the unconditional variety and discuss whether love without expectations is even truly achievable or not and how Jesus, their dogs and glory supporters relate. The LADS also discuss what it means to ‘live in love’ and determine that we’re all nuts and we’d be better off if we’d just lead with that.

(01:50) - Leggy sees a psychic and other updates - “That's what we try and bang on about is like, ‘If you can know yourself, then at least you can tell people the truth about where you're at.”

(20:47) - Is love an absolute? - “I'm not into absolutes and yet at the same time, I believe in truth. I am confused. That's the truth.”

(21:46) - Unconditional love and what Jesus taught - “You are expecting something in return and that's pernicious and unhelpful.”

(23:21) - On parental love - “Discipline I believe in, but not discipline for discipline’s sake. You have to have a person understand why that's happening to them right now.”

(28:09) -  What love feels like, physically - “The reason I'm asking you and badgering you about what love feels like is because I'm beginning to get the reference point of what it feels like in your body.”

(32:33) -  Love is not for the glory supporters - “If I'm on the front lines with someone, I want to be with someone that is fucking right there with me, giving it to me straight. The whole thing.”

(37:22) - Spreading love out - “If you have deep intimate relationships in your friendships, then you get so much out of that, that the requirement for the romantic side of your life is less, actually.”

(41:19) - Living in love - “Taking the time at any point in your life to do things slowly and to understand what's going on with you is one of the most loving things you can do.”

  • To say that dating apps are the same as meeting someone in real life is bollocks according to the 2 LADS. We learned that last week in the first part of their discussion on online dating. So go back and have a listen to that now if you missed it. Then come settle in for the second part of the discussion where Leggy gets into his personal experience with dating apps, Daniel recounts a few more adventures from his own online dating days and the LADS continue to work through why they believe dating apps are all taste and no substance, like having a big mac over a quinoa bowl.

(01:52) - The ritual of meeting people IRL - “That process is a needed and necessary part of intimacy.”

(04:01) - Leggy on dating apps - “I was giving it too much credit, the app world.”

(13:38) - Women and dating apps - “Women now, I think they'd rather you meet them on the app.”

(15:18) - Daniel’s dating app shenanigans - “I knew it was getting bad.”

(17:05) - Keys to the kingdom - “If you could hand that to anyone, they would want it initially, and then they would go, ‘I don't want this anymore.’”

(19:53) - Addiction based - “These people that are making these apps are very very smart. And it's all built into the system for you to pay to get the hit, to get the dopamine hit, to get more likes, get more appreciation. All from the comfort of your fucking armchair.”

(23:04) - Autonomizing our humanity - “We're outsourcing the ability to be intimate.”

(24:15) - We need our own village - “You need your own village, a small amount of people that can hold you accountable.”

  • In the first part of another 2-part discussion, the 2 LADS go a little lighter with the topic of dating apps, including Daniel’s experiences with them and why he says they felt more powerful than drugs. Daniel also explains what the terms somatic and corpsing mean while Leggy talks about being impulsive and how he feels about meditation. Come back next week when the lads continue the discussion, getting into Leggy’s experiences with online dating along with a few more dating app shenanigans from Daniel.

    (03:02) - Corpsing explained - “I am a notorious corpser.”

(12:57) - On somatics - “It's wild how much your mind is so sneaky, you know? And actually your body, it always tells you the truth.”

(17:50) - Things that are ‘woo woo’ - “We have a tendency as human beings to make up narratives if we can't explain something. It's like the placebo effect, right? Very often we can make things up in our heads and empirical data often allows you to make much clearer decisions.”

(18:47) - Music as a metaphor for how we look at the world - “You can either go to a concert and spend a lot of time listening to cat guts being drawn against horse hair creating vibrations, or you can go and listen to a violin play a beautiful concerto. And both are true.”

(21:39) -  Leggy’s patterns in relationships - “If it's just you in a room, then you're a genius, you know? Because there's no potential pushback.”

(32:55) - Bonus Question for Patrons - “Where are your limitations in a relationship? How do they come up and how do they manifest?”

(35:01) - Daniel on dating apps - “Dating apps essentially remove the discomfort of that rite of passage, accountability and putting yourself out there.”

(46:12) - The objectification and projection that dating apps proliferate - “You can't possibly read the energy of a person when you're just looking at pictures.”

(47:31) - The unlimited access that dating apps offer - “It's like an all-you-can-eat buffet. There's no value to it because you've paid $2.99 and now you can just eat whatever you want.”

  • In the second part of Daniel and Leggy’s discussion on judgement, the 2 LADS conclude that judgement can be a dead end in any relationship, then they talk through ways to recognize when and why we are judging a situation in order to find a healthier and more productive pathway forward. They also explain why they believe it’s important to investigate where our own judgment comes from and recognize that we all have the capacity to do the things we’re judging. Daniel sums up his thoughts saying, “You’re always a foot away from the ditch.” And Leggy offers some closing advice: “Keep checking yourself before you’re wrecking yourself, brothers and sisters.”

(02:50) - The danger with judgement - “All I can distill it down to is trying to be more discerning with what judgment is all about.”

(08:51) - Judgement vs. Accountability - “I think judgment just stops. Once it has come down, that's where it ends. Whereas accountability is more ongoing.”

(09:42) - The Big Ugly and projecting - “It's pretty rare where you can just find a human that hasn't got any Skeletons in the closet.”

(14:10) - The real power of non-judgement - “I want to be a person that you can come to with anything.”

(18:00) - Baggage and wounds - “We've all got this problem, which is life is fucking painful and really ruinous. And we all are trying to figure out the best strategies and some people's strategies are more socially acceptable.”

(22:22) - The relationship between judgement and control - “We put all these things up that make us think we're in control of the universe. Then a fucking hurricane comes and your whole house blows up.”

(24:31) - Insecurity begets judgement - “Really secure people, they're really interesting in how they deal with the world. I've always admired that they don't have that judgment.”

(30:20) - Self judgment and the judgment paradox - “There is an element of like your judgment doesn't matter, but then it also does to keep you in society a little bit.”

(34:36) - Judgment needs to be looked at more closely - “You’ve just got to keep investigating it and keep accessing your humanity in order to understand that you are the same as everybody else and you also have the capacity to do those things.”

  • The 2 LADS start this 2-parter off with a discussion on the never-ending stress of pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone while Leggy checks in at a 2 and a 9. Then Daniel and Leggy dive into a deeper discussion on judgment and whether it’s helpful, relevant or even necessary in modern society. The 2 LADS also talk about what makes Leggy act like a lizard, judgement loops, narcissists and sociopaths. And as is becoming a bit of a pattern, Leggy judges Daniel’s mic etiquette. So stick around and then stay tuned for Part 2 out next week with more on the topic of judgement.

(24:05) - Why Daniel is angry - “We wanted to do judgment because I’m feeling a lot of judgment, and therefore I'm judging.”

(26:28) - Judgment is narcissistic  - “I wrote, ‘I don't have anything to prove to you.’ And it felt like such a relief.”

(31:57) - Leggy’s thoughts on where morals come from - “I don't think you're born good. I think you are born to try to stay alive.”

(36:54) - Is judgement appropriate any longer? - “We're not investigating that judgement. We're just going, ‘That person is a bad person for doing that.’”

(41:26) - Leveling up from judgment - “You're human. You're going to have a reaction. I think that maybe it's about commitment to come back to reassess things as you've calmed down.”

  • In this second part of the 2 LADS’ discussion on addiction, Leggy goes deeper into his own journey with drugs and alcohol, from working out why he couldn’t walk away from drugs in his teens and twenties to how he thinks about addiction now and what has helped him move past it. The 2 LADS also talk about the role pain and trauma play in addiction and the pattern of seeking short-term relief over truly facing trauma and healing the pain that comes from it. Daniel also talks about finding balance and what he thinks we should all be doing to move forward as a society that holds space for people struggling with addiction. Join the discussion now for all that and more.

    JUMP STRAIGHT INTO:

(02:50) - The relationship between pleasure and pain - “They are located in the same part of your brain, so the amount of pleasure that you feel is directly proportional to the pain.”

(03:58) - Striving for balance - “If you let me into the candy store, I'm going to eat all of it.”

(07:09) - Leggy’s journey with addiction - “When I first took speed when I was 16, why was it that I spent three days awake doing speed and all my mates went home?”

(17:31) - Addiction is a symptom of trauma - “You have to feel the pain in order to heal the wound, and so the addiction part, the thing that's shutting down the pain, is selling you out of the healing.”

(23:12) - Getting past addiction - “When you're on the rock bottom, you know everybody don't like you. A lot of people are not trusting you. You probably own people money. You've let people down. Everyone's sick of you, right? You go into an AA room and they welcome you in and they treat you like a human.”

(30:42) - On self protection - “It's about commitment. To know that you can commit to something and give it your all and not hedge your bets because the hedging of the bets is part of a fear of the failure.”

(34:04) - Connection is a path to healing - “The tribe we're trying to evolve as will only get better with knowledge of self-love. And the addictions that we're all in will only be healed by vulnerability, honesty and transparency.”

(36:20) - It’s easier to stay where you’re at and not grow - “It really is hard. And every time we go through a layer, there is another layer. It's ongoing.”

(37:13) - Addiction affects everything - “Everything that we do, there's this addiction thing attached to it. How does addiction affect love? How does addiction affect my career? How does my addiction affect my health and fitness?”

  • In the first of another two-parter, Leggy and Daniel go hard, vulnerable and honest about another not-so-small topic: addiction. There’s a lot to cover so Leggy’s story will have to wait until Part 2 (out next week!), but first, in this extended first half, the 2 LADS discuss Daniel’s thoughts on addiction, from believing everybody’s an addict to how he came to recognize it in himself and begin to work through it. The 2 LADS also discuss comfort zones, being young and ruthless, training for a triathlon and the surprising silver lining to struggling with extreme addiction. Settle in because tackling the topic of addiction is going to take a while.

(04:41) - Thriving vs. being in survival mode - “I've always been in a state of making it up on the fly and I don't know what it is to be living or what it is to take care of myself.”

(12:29) - Leggy’s comfort zone - “I think I’ve honestly jeopardized my career over the years because I always would rather be in my comfort zone.”

(20:31) - Failure knocking the lads down a peg - “I was ruthless. I had no experience so I was just like, ‘I'm the shit.’ I was just the biggest narcissist in the world.”

(26:57) - Daniel’s definition of addiction - “Addiction is not necessarily the pursuit of a high, it's more the escape of pain.”

(28:32) - Daniel’s story of facing addiction - “For me, drugs and sex became a way of just feeling something different for a little while and it felt ‘in control.’”

(35:10) - Daniel’s want to be impressive - “My biggest struggle my whole life is that I'm so fucking desperate to be respected.”

(53:18) - Addiction forces self reflection - “God help you if you're in the middle zone where it doesn't show up as that bad that you have to look at it. And that happens to a lot of people, and it's like what do you do then?”

  • In this episode of 2 LADS, Daniel and Leggy walk us through a recent conflict they had while on holiday—not in Wales—in an effort to break down how tricky conflict can be and how important it is to set our weapons down and get back to loving each other. Daniel also discusses the dilemma he sees between being agreeable and being untrustworthy. Leggy talks about what’s usually going on on the surface versus the feelings you don’t even realize you’re experiencing in real time. And they both agree that we often build up stories about others in order to justify our negative feelings. The 2 LADS eventually conclude that you can get past conflict and even grow from it, tyrants and lads on tour included. Their final take-away being to always bring a life coach on holiday.

(02:51) - The Check In - “Part of why I didn't want to reveal stuff is that I'm actually pretty fucking boring. Mystery is more interesting than the facts.”

(14:01) - Conflict can strengthen a relationship - “With us, the more conflict we have, the more I trust you. The more I trust our friendship.”

(16:11) - Conflict to get your way in the world - “Is being aggressive wrong all the time? Is conflict wrong? No, it's not. It's just when to use it, and is it serving you?”

(19:02) - Deescalating conflict - “The idea of expressing any vulnerability is really scary and very difficult, and yet it's the only thing that will deescalate the problem.”

(20:34) - Daniel and Leggy’s holiday conflict, an example of conflict - “You were looking at a tyrant and it was your job to fight him?”

(25:23) - The conscious vs. the unconscious - “That's another fucking minefield that you're dealing with where you might be pissed off at me for something that you don't even know that you're pissed off about.”

(27:19) - The stories we tell ourselves - “If you see someone day to day and you're in a relationship with them, you start to see their humanity. Their good parts. Their bad parts. But you have a relationship with them that means that the stories don't build up.”

(31:51) - Getting on the same page - “This is where it's hard because you want it to be dialed. You want everyone to be in the same place so that we can just get to where we need to get to to resolve.”

(39:40) - Coming to a resolution - “I think it was the first big blowup that we’ve had. And that happens in relationships all the time, but it's also knowing, ‘Hey, like there are going to be things that come up that aren't going to be resolved, but we will eventually resolve them.’”

  • Daniel and Leggy finish out their two-part conversation on shame in this episode, touching on why we default to shutting down shame with bad behavior and why just sitting with shame can be difficult but important to our personal growth. The 2 LADS also talk about forgiveness and how we’ve lost some room for redemption in modern day society. Finally, they conclude that there is an antidote to shame, though you’ll never avoid the feeling altogether. If you haven’t already heard Part 1 of this conversation, then go back now and listen to that episode first to get the whole, full enchilada on shame.

(02:57) - Daniel’s shame around acting - “I have a lot of shame about having to do some work to survive.”

(04:55) - Numbing shame with sex, drugs, etc. - “It sucks to feel shame, so obviously you're going to double down on some sort of pleasure seeking situation to just fucking shut it down, whether it be sex, drugs, you know, whatever your poison is, to just turn it off.”

(05:31) - Using shame to check in with yourself - “It's very, very fucking hard to sit in the shame, just sit in it, which is the thing to do ultimately to shine a light on it.”

(06:04) - Patterns of how we deal with shame - “As a kid, I'd get told off for stuff, right? So I'd be shamed, which is why there's an old pattern in me which made me not want to tell you, because I didn't want to get shamed.”

(06:55) - Shaming others ignores your own humanity - “It's so difficult to not judge, to actually love someone when they fucked up.”

(10:25) - As religion has receded, so has redemption - “Once you're thrown out, there isn't a pathway back. That's one thing that's missing from our current culture.”

(15:23) - Not being honest about who you are - “It's very weird for me to really be totally honest about what I like.”

(19:39) - Men don’t have the same healthy outlets as women - “There's a great kind of culture of women taking care of themselves, pampering themselves, they go into a kind of selfcare mode and we don't really have those rituals.”

    (22:21) - Shame is inevitable - “You're never a master of this. You're always a student.”

  • In the first of this two-part conversation, Leggy and Daniel discuss shame, from how they experience it, to recognizing its effects and why it’s important to talk about. The 2 LADS also talk about the relationship between shame and judgement, and how we can fall into the trap of projecting our own moral standards on others leading to unnecessary shame. And they even get into how shame has affected their sex lives and personal relationships. Listen now for another candid conversation on a topic you don’t often hear men talking about so openly.

    JUMP STRAIGHT INTO:

(02:58) - Recognizing when you're acting in shame - “Shame is a tricky one because a lot of the time you don't even know that you're in shame until you reflect on what you've just done.”

(05:17) - Shame and sex - “There's something about the shame of giving your wholeself to something. There's a shame in that.”

(10:34) - Shame and judgment - “The influence of other people's version of shame—often their own projection by the way—is where people get into trouble.”

(12:36) - Shame is a sign something is out of alignment - “I believe it is on me to get clear about how I want to operate in the world, and then if shame comes in, it means to me now that something is not aligning.”

(13:39) - Forgiving yourself for your mistakes - “Acknowledge that you fucked up, but you also have to be kind to yourself because you're already in shame.”

(15:16) - The strange things we do out of shame - “I think subconsciously underneath that, there was a kind of fishing line out to try to get some kind of the connection that would validate the other feeling.”

(20:57) - Shame spirals and talking about shame - “Men aren't good at dealing with that because we don't talk very much. We never get to bounce something off somebody else and stop the spiral in its tracks.”

(24:42) - Estimable acts and Shame pits - “There's so many shame pits now. There are just shame pits everywhere. You can't do anything other than stumble into a shame pit.”

(26:54) - Front loaded vs. back loaded shame - “The back end of the shame is equal and proportionate to how easy the first part was.”
