Whenever conversations start about dieting and why someone may have started dieting, so many begin the answer with “well my mother…”. For Betty, this is a lot more complex, because based on her own mother’s feelings along with doctors advice of doing what was “best” for her daughter, it landed her and Betty in a feature article in VOGUE about how she successfully dieted her young 7 year old daughter. But, is mom really the problem? Today we unpack diet culture & dieting, mothers and the nuances and HONESTY of all the inbetweens.

The average teen spends 7 hours a day online. That’s ⅓ of their life. #HalfTheStory began when founder, Larissa May (@livinlikelarz), was juggling two lives as a student at Vanderbilt University and a fashion blogger/entrepreneur, covering NYFW for highly respected media outlets. Behind the perfectly curated instagram feed was 17 hour workdays, debilitating anxiety, and sleep deprivation. Through industry conversations and discussions with peers she quickly realized that she was living in a world where everyone was craving a platform to share, which led to the beginning of @halfthestory. It started as a desire to highlight our most human attributes on social media to reignite human connection in the digital space. So what began as a $800 grant for a senior art project has since become a globally recognized platform connecting people of all walks of life through sharing experiences, struggles, entrepreneurial journeys, and aspirations.

What was a mutual decision, combined with a celebratory get well cake and sharing on social media about Shane getting a vasectomy turned into a wild ride of misconceptions, accusations and a news story we did NOT expect to be a part of. Facing backlash over a vasectomy was shocking, but not as shocking as some of the widely spread fears around a vasectomy. So we sat down, with covid, and shared the experience, taking on listener questions as well!
