Today I am welcoming Mr Brentan Parsons, who is the manager of strength and
conditioning at the Shanghai Sports Institute. In this episode we talk
about strength and power development pathways for youth athletes, in
particular volleyball players. We also discuss life working in China and
Thailand, giving our experiences of working in Asia.
This episode is a prequel to a talk that Brentan is doing at the Australian
Strength and Conditioning SEA conference on 21st and 22nd of April 2017

Mike is a physiotherapist with over fifteen years of experience managing
complex, persistent pain conditions. His work in the field has recently
received international praise from the leading names in neuroscience and
many would consider Mike an expert in pain management. -

Today I was lucky enough to be able to speak to another member of the GWS
Giants team…Lachlan Wilmot. Lachlan is head strength and power coach at GWS
Giants and has fulfilled that role since the launch of the club around six
years ago. In this episode we discuss Lachlan’s ideas around long term
athlete development and specifically around the concept of ‘Boys to
Giants’, which Lachlan will soon be presenting at the Australian of
Strength and Conditioning associations prestigious conference.
In this episode we discuss the optimal journey of young Australian football
players from the start of their professional journey all the way through to
the elite level. Lachlan shares with us an incredible amount of information
around the development strength and power attributes in players as well as
his ideas around the professional development of coaches and the sports
science and medicine team within the sport. -
Neil Collins @_neilC_ is the academy sports science lead at Wolverhampton
Wanderers Football Club, which is a category one academy of the English
Championship club Wolves.
Neil is responsible for the optimising the long term athletic development
of the club's youth athletes, with a view to successfully developing
athletes capable of playing for the clubs first team. We cover a lot of
topics in this episode, especially the development of u7-u16 players to get
them as ready as possible for the demands of elite first team football. -

Andy Barrow is a former international Athlete, having played wheelchair
Rugby at the very highest level - even captaining his team through the
Beijing and London Olympic games. Andy is now working as an international
motivational speaker and mentor, sharing his story and helping others
overcome adversity. -
Today I am delighted and privileged to welcome a man who needs little
introduction - Mr Kelvin Giles. Kelvin is CEO of movement dynamics sports
consultancy, a former PE teacher who went on to be UK National and Olympic
Track & Field Coach. He spent 30 years in Australia’s high performance
sport environment and was Head T&F Coach at the Australian Institute of
Sport in Canberra as well asHead of the Athletic Development department at
the Queensland Academy of Sport in Brisbane. He spent 6 years at Brisbane
Broncos Rugby League team as Director of Performance and also led the
Australian Rugby Union’s Elite Player Development section. He's also coach
to 14 Olympic and World Championship athletes over a 40 year career. -
Today i am fortunate to be joined by @MickByers. Mick currently works at
the GWS giants as athletic performance specialist and in this episode we
discuss Australian rules football and how he manages his athletes within
the youth development system.
Having previously completed the fast track internship with the GWS giants,
Mick has a wealth of knowledge to share and also gives some insights into
his experience working in the AFL under the mentorship of world class
professionals like David Joyce.
In this episode we discuss a range of topics, including:
* The demands of Aussie rules football
* How to effectively monitor training
* How young football players should try to approach their training
* Issues within the profession and possible ways to correct these
issues.

Today I am extremely lucky to welcome Prof Mark De Ste Croix to the
podcast. Mark has worked in paediatric sport and exercise for nearly 20
years and specialises in talent identification and youth athlete
development. More recently, Mark has carried out considerable research in
to injury prevention processes and recovery strategies in youth
footballers.
Mark has worked with some of the top football teams in the world; Including
Spanish teams Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao. -
I am excited to welcome the rugby strength coach who is going to share his
insights into strength and conditioning in both youth and adult
populations. Keir is currently working in Tokyo with Toshiba in the top
Japanese league, having previously played an Influential part in helping
the Argentinian national team obtain 4th place in the Rugby world cup. -
Today I am excited to welcome Dr. Jon Oliver @DrJonOliver to the podcast.
Jon is a hugely influential voice in the field of youth physical
development and has produced over 50 peer reviewed journal articles, as
well as 5 professional publications. Additionally, Jon edited 'Strength and
Conditioning for Youth Athletes: Science and Application'; an outstanding
resource that I can highly recommend. -
I am privileged to welcome Mr. Paul Read who joins me from London. Paul is a senior lecturer of Strength & Conditioning at St Mary's University in London & has a wealth of knowledge to share, having worked at the highest level as a coach and rehabilitation specialist with elite athletes. Paul has a special interest in youth athlete development; specifically the neuromuscular mechanisms involved in injury occurrence and training adaptations.

Will is the head of academy strength and conditioning at Brighton and Hove
Albion Football Club and he joins me today to share his ideas on GPS data
in youth football. In this episode we also discuss in detail the systems
that Will uses to help his team recover from training and game load. -
Today I am privileged to welcome Sam Blanchard. Sam is joining me from New
York, where he is working with the Buffalo Sabres and is based with their
development team, the Rochester Americans. -
Mr Andrew Small joins me in this episode to discuss performance enhancement
screening and issue of early specialisation in sport. Andy is currently
working as the high performance advisor at the Jon McEnroe tennis academy
in New York, having previously worked extensively with the Australian
national diving and volleyball teams.
