  • In this Season 2 finale, Danni Washington is joined by Madeline St. Clair. Mads is a marine biologist, filmmaker, and Managing Director of Women in Ocean Science.
     
    Mads and Danni dive deep on a variety of issues and topics ranging from Mad's experience studying tropical marine biology at the University of Essex, her research work in the Indo-Pacific, ocean noise pollution and quiet zones, and the struggle of finding resources in an underfunded industry. Maddy is the senior curator of Maritime Archaeology for the Queensland Museum Network and James Cook University in Australia. Dr. Maddy McAllister is also the recipient of the Women Divers Hall of Fame Cecelia Connelly Memorial Scholarship in Underwater Archaeology.

  • Danni Washington speaks with Melissa Cristina ​Márquez, also known as the Mother of Sharks. Puerto Rican born and raised, Melissa has used her unique upbringing and love for sharks to become one of the biggest advocates for our oceans' top predator. First being introduced to sharks after watching Discovery's Shark Week as a child, Melissa took the deep dive into marine biology. Topics discussed range from bioluminescent bays to studying in New Zealand and Australia to our relationship with sharks and our big blue planet as a whole.
     
    Melissa Cristina ​Márquez is a proud Latina marine biologist who is also known as the Mother of Sharks. She is a TV presenter, freelance wildlife writer, and an advocate for inclusive science communication. Melissa is also the host of Conciencia Azul, a PhD candidate, and currently traveling around the world as an active member of the OceanXplorers Team.

    Dr. Grace Young is a Lead Scientist at X, Alphabet’s Moonshot Factory, where her team is creating radical new technologies to protect the ocean while feeding humanity sustainably. She earned her BSc in Mechanical & Ocean Engineering from MIT, and she received her PhD as a Marshal Scholar at the University of Oxford. Dr. Young has developed robots, imaging systems, and other technologies for MIT, CERN, NASA, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and assists National Geographic in various initiatives to educate and inspire young people about the ocean, including augmented reality exhibitions, games, and educational outreach.

  • Danni Washington makes the deep dive on marine protection and conservation with fellow mermaid, Mariasole Bianco. Mariasole coordinates the Young Professionals network of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, hosts a TV show in Italy about ocean wonders and issues, works with private sector on ocean responsibility, teaches at the University of Genoa, and is the founder and president of Worldrise, an Italian non-profit organisation focused on marine conservation and young professional empowerment. In June 2020 she published "Pianeta Oceano," her first book that describes the wonders of the ocean, the problems that afflict it, and the solutions that can be adopted to safeguard it. 
     
    In this episode, Mariasole dives deep on her upbringing on the beaches and islands of Italy to studying and working abroad in Australia and the journey of taking her talents back to her home country to help drive the conversation for conservation in Italy and Europe.
