ex-LFC goalkeeper coach John Achterberg is the latest special guest to join the Aldo Meets podcast panel. John Aldridge and co talk to John about his time as Liverpool FC goalkeeper coach, how he identified targets day and night to bring to the club, the process of how Liverpool transfers came about, such as Allison and the reasoning behind needing to splash the cash on a goalkeeper to compete at the top level. Additionally, John shares insight on his new job in the Saudi League and what he thinks the perfect size for a goalkeeper is, along with his philosophy for training them to be proficient in all goalkeeper skills to be the full package for the club they play for. John Achterberg until the end of the 23/24 season was part of Jurgen Klopp's staff and was the goalkeeping coach at Liverpool FC for 15 years, who played a vital part in scouting talent for the club and bringing in the pivotal signing alongside Van Dijk, Allison Becker from Roma. John Achterberg has also been a goalkeeper himself, managed by our host John Aldridge (which we touch on in the episode). We're sure you'll enjoy this cracker.
