  • Romulo Melo was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He practices and teaches traditional Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for fitness, competition, and self-defense.

    He trained directly under Vinicius Aieta and Royler Gracie at the highly respected Gracie Humaita Academy in Rio de Janeiro, as well as at the Gracie Tijuca academy.

    He was a 2002 World Champion and also a 2016 World No-Gi Champion.

    Romulo adheres to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a complete way of life, not just a martial art or a sport. He is proud and excited to be able to share his wealth of knowledge and practical experience both on and off the mat with his students. He embraces BJJ’s healthy lifestyle to help you get the most out of life in every aspect.

    He works hard to create and maintain a great family environment and safe place for students of all ages to learn.

  • Akaya Windwood is the President of Rockwood Leadership Institute, which provides transformative leadership trainings for nonprofit and philanthropic organizations globally. She is a partner in the Opportunity Collaboration, an international conference that convenes leaders working to end poverty, directs the Mycelium Fund, which makes small grants to non-profit organizations based on generosity and interconnectedness, and is faculty on the RSF Social Finance Integrated Capital Fellowship. Akaya has been a featured speaker at the Stanford Social Innovation Institute, the Aspen Institute, and the Association of Black Foundation Executives conferences. She received an Ella Award from the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, and is deeply committed to working for a fair and equitable global society while infusing a sense of purpose, delight and wonder into everything we do.   • Kat Evasco is a writer, stand up comedian, performance artist, and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was born in the Philippines and immigrated to Los Angeles where she was raised. Evasco is best known for her nationally touring autobiographical one-woman show, Mommy Queerest, co-written and directed by John Caldon. Evasco currently serves as the Chief Dream Director at The Future Project and as the Artistic Director of Guerrilla Rep. Evasco is a recipient of the Creative Capacity Fund Quick Grant, NextGen Art Professional Development Grant, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation Grant. She holds a BA in Asian American Studies from San Francisco State University.

  • Jabari Johnson is a graduate of Howard University and today works as a filmmaker and digital entrepreneur. He is the creator and host of the documentary series Jabari Presents and has interviewed over 100 of the most influential celebrities including Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Russell Simmons, and Floyd Mayweather.

    To date, his work has earned him more than 5 million views across the web. His short film on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis showcases the making of 2013's biggest music video, Thrift Shop. Jabari recently released his first feature film, a tour documentary on Tinie Tempah becoming the first British hip-hop artist to sell out a UK arena tour, Tinie Tempah: Discovering Destiny.

    In addition to filmmaking, Jabari is the co-founder of Volume Visual a digital agency that enhances the personal brands of artists online. Jabari also has a bicoastal monthly party series in NYC and LA called COLORS.

  • Cliff Osmond (born Clifford Osman Ebrahim) was born February 26, 1937 and lived through December 22, 2012. He was an American character actor and television screenwriter best known for appearing in films directed by Billy Wilder.

    Cliff Osmond comes to the acting business from a variety of venues. A member of: Kappa Alpha Sigma Honorary Business Fraternity, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Mr. Osmond received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Dartmouth College, holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from UCLA where he also advanced to candidacy for his Ph.D. in Theatre History.

    Osmond made more than 100 appearances in television and movies, working with such notables as Jack Lemmon, Peter Sellers, Shirley MacLaine, Carrol O’connor, Kim Novak, Lucille Ball, Dean Martin, Walter Matthau, and Jody Foster.

    In 2010, he wrote a book about his career and acting titled: Acting is Living: Exploring the Ten Essential Elements in any Successful Performance. Concurrent with his film career, Mr. Osmond conducted weekly scene-study classes in Los Angeles, San Francisco and around the country. He has taught an estimated 20,000+ students over the length his career.

  • I am pleased to introduce you to Olivia Malabuyo Tablante, currently the Administrative Manager at the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation where she also manages the arts commissioning awards program in partnership with William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Prior to joining as Gerbode Foundation’s Program Assistant in 2006, Olivia had served as Los Cenzontles Mexican Art Center’s Administrative Manager and the Production Manager for its PBS series Cultures of Mexico in California, from 2004 to 2006. She was also a Managing Director of San Francisco’s black box theater, Bindlestiff Studio, and worked over five years with tenants and owners, development corporation in senior and affordable housing development. Olivia has also been a video instructor for San Francisco’s Oasis for Girls and China Town’s Beacon Center, and a performer with comedy troupe Tongue in a Mood.

She served as director of Asian American Theater Company from 1997 - 2000 and currently sits on its advisory board. She served as Youth Speaks' Managing Director from 2001-2007 and has been an Producer, Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Production Manager, and Lighting Designer with the Living Word Project. She has brought her multiplicity of production and design talents to Living Word Project Repertory works such as The Break/s, Word Becomes Flesh, Scourge, and Mirrors in Every Corner. She is the inaugural recipient of the San Francisco Arts Commission Artist and Communities Partnership Grant for a project she is conducting through Asian American Recovery Services of San Francisco.

    She is also a self-taught documentary photographer. Her photography has exhibited at SF Camerawork and Meridian Gallery, and has graced the album cover designs of iconic bands such as Faith No More. She has been considered for prestigious awards such as the Prix de la Photographie, and awarded an Exhibition in The Bay Area Currents 2009. Her work has been featured in publications: LA Weekly, Koream Magazine, and Artslant, Juried Exhibit Winner in Photography.

Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, where he built the Company's first education and licensing programs from the ground up, increased earned income revenue by more than 60 percent, negotiated major commissioning agreements and oversaw the Company’s U.S. and international tours. Prior to joining the BTJ/AZ Dance Company, he was Managerial Associate in the Dance Division of IMG Artists, managing the touring and performance operations of major dance companies such as Twyla Tharp, Lyon Opera Ballet, Pilobolus, Miami City Ballet, and more. An honors graduate of UC Berkeley, Dave began his career in San Francisco as Curatorial Performing Arts Production Coordinator at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Dave is also an independent musician and producer.

    Dave "Daveytree" Archuletta has been producing music in the underground scene for over 10 years. He plays several instruments, including piano, bass and drums. Dave is a founding member of the Funk Force Collective, and the visionary SF band Run the Voodoo Down (one of the first live music acts to incorporate turntablism as a primary musical element, featuring DMC Wold Champion DJ Pash "Mackintosh" Kamber on the wheels of steel). He has produced albums for Nidecker Snowboards, LRG clothing, the Mission Burrito Project, the Funk Force Collective, and the independent release "Noah D & B.Ski Soon to Be." In 2009 "Breez Deez Treez" with rapper Breez Evahflowin, was released on Domination Recordings to wide critical acclaim. In October 2011 Dave's productions will be performed by Daniel Bernard Roumain at BAM's Next Wave Festival in New York.

  • In this ART OF HUSTLE podcast episode, we hear from Jenifer Wofford! Jenifer K Wofford is a Filipina-American artist and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Prague, Czech Republic. She was born in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia. She received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, and her MFA from UC Berkeley.

    Her work has been exhibited in the Bay Area at the Berkeley Art Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Southern Exposure, Richmond Art Center, and Kearny Street Workshop, nationally at New Image Art (Los Angeles), Nora Eccles Harrison Museum (Salt Lake City), thirtynine hotel (Honolulu), and internationally at Future Prospects (Philippines), Galerie Blanche (France), and Osage Gallery Kwun Tong (Hong Kong).

    She is also 1/3 of the manic, brilliant, highly delusional artist trio Mail Order Brides/M.O.B. They have collaborated on a variety of shenanigans for venues including the DeYoung Museum, Lizabeth Oliveria Gallery, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Southern Exposure, the National Asian American Film Festival, The San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and the McColl Center for Visual Art.

    Wofford has worked in arts education for over a decade, with schools and organizations including the University of San Francisco, UC Berkeley, California College of the Arts, Diablo Valley College, SFMoMA, Casa De Los Jovenes, Leadership High School, First Graduate, City Arts and Tech High School, and Out Of Site.

    Her awards include the Eureka Fellowship, the Murphy Fellowship, and grants from the Art Matters Foundation, UCIRA, and the Pacific Rim Research Program. She has also undertaken artist residencies at The Living Room, Philippines, Solyst Artist in Residence Center, Denmark, and Chateau de la Napoule, France. Wofford was also honored with a 2007 “Goldie” (Guardian Local Discovery) Award from the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
