I've been gone awhile, but I'm back now!

After a lengthy sabbatical, I'm back .. In this episode I'm dealing with a key issue in planning your own training sessions and that's extra conditioning work during the pre-season.. It's one of the biggest mistakes players make and one of my pet hates when it comes to old school coaches running players into the ground .. In this episode I talk about the actual physical demands of the game, how to assess what extra work you need to do outside of those sessions and how to put yourself in key position when it comes to championship!
Give it a listen and let me know what you think!
Also nearly time for gyms to open so if you are interested in working with me, get in touch now!

In this one we dive into a couple of different topics on sprinting and speed development during the winter, the theory behind some of the concepts I've been talking about recently and also some useful things you can implement into your daily life to make lockdown a little easier.
Hope you enjoy this episode. All feedback greatly appreciated. Stay safe out there!

As coaches , we always start a coaching journey with a client with a needs analysis? What does the client need? One of the most difficult things at the moment is that people don't understand or don't know what they need to do with regards to training or nutrition with all the restrictions etc.
In this podcast I tried to cover over a few of the main thought processes that I go through when trying to decide what to do or what to focus on.
Hopefully as you work your way through this you'll gain a better understanding of it and be able to perform your own needs analysis to try and get your training and progress back on track.

Speed is undoubtedly the most crucial physical skill you can possess. More speed = more opportunities for success. On the offensive side of the game it allows you to create separation between you and the defender, creating more unopposed scoring chances, on the defensive side the opposite is true and you close the space down.
As important as it is, it's still terribly misunderstood in team sports and in coaching in general I feel.
Here's my take on it and the key principles that you need to know when training speed!
Hope you take something from it - glad to be back!

Christmas time is a busy time, can also be a stressful time. Made even more stressful by insta huns telling you to not do the dog on it over the break. It's a lot more nuanced than what they'd make it out to be. Hopefully this short interlude makes things a little easier for you to manage.
Thanks to all my clients who have stuck by me all year & made amazing strides even in trying times.
Thank you to all the new listeners, here's to a more productive 2021!
Happy Christmas & a Happy New Year.

Second episode of the Quick Fire 5 format. Kept all the questions fairly similar this time around to avoid going off on too much of a tangent and to allow me to flesh out the answers a bit more. It also goes to show you how linked things are regarding training and nutrition.
The timestamps for the questions are as follows:
1:48 - #1 = Differences between front squats & back squats?
7:02 - #2 = Should you squat full depth?
12:51 - #3 = Learning to be flexible in the weight room & substituting exercises where possible?
22:47 - #4 = Can you gain muscle in a deficit?
27:45 - #5 = Not underestimating the role of sub-maximal strength & fitness work in your programming?
Hope you find these useful! Back on the wagon of getting them recorded in bulk this week after the minor illness, hence the tiredness in the voice!
Thanks as always for listening!

In this episode we dive a bit into some of the finer details of programming for the current state of our off-season training programming. Introducing cluster sets to some of our greener members of the squad to maintain our primary focus of gaining size and strength while simultaneously introducing some form of explosive movements.
Also, in this episode I introduce some of my new coaching roles for 2021 that I'm super excited about!
Hopefully the background noise isn't too much on this one, I did my best to level it out. It won't always be like this, I promise!

The best way to learn is always to do. Hopefully by learning from my own experiences (and hopefully little mistakes) you guy's can get a better understanding of certain things. Today, I took three different client stories from the past 3 days and expanded on them a little bit to give you an insight into the coaching process and the reasoning behind making certain decisions. The beauty of these ones is I've integrated the nuance of the individual variation by briefly explaining each of their current positions so that it makes a little bit more sense.
I've always said that during coaching you have to meet the client where they are at and now you'll have real life examples and experiences that people, maybe even you, have/will go through!
Thank you for listening! -
We all get caught at some point with some clever marketing skills into buying things we don't need, supplements are no different. It's essentially become an arms race among companies to try and develop the newest 'thing' or blend of ingredients that are going to change the game - but do they really? In this episode I briefly cover the main 3 that have any use to you depending on what your goals are. Keep your hard earned cash in your pocket and spend in on things you do need - like Online Programming from myself for example! All jokes aside, have a listen, let me know what you think. Thanks for listening!

2020 for most people was a strange one between lockdowns and Covid-19 and even more strange was me working as an S&C coach with a Senior Hurling team in Limerick. A quick background, I was born in England, never played hurling and had a limited understanding of the rules but we went with it anyway. In this episode I chat about how I came about getting the job in the first place, how we handled training in and out of lockdown and a review of the year in general. Hopefully you get some value out of it!
