  • Well it's our last episode for 2021...but could this be Aussie beer Explorer's last episode ever??? Nothing's set in stone yet, but what we do know is that after this ep we'll definitely be taking a break for a while. Thanks to everyone who's listened to us rabbit on for the last three and a half years, hopefully we gave you something fun to do while some of you were in lockdown at various times throughout the pandemic...it's crazy to think that for over half the time we've been gasbagging about beers has been during these "unprecedented times". And a huge thanks to Hops To Home, who've been sending us a few extra beers to talk about each month. We've enjoyed trying beers we wouldn't have grabbed off the shelves ourselves, and as a result we've definitely broadened our horizons! So for the final episode for 2021, Hops To Home sent us another 5 awesome beers to finish on:Gin Barrel Gose - Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company http://hargreaveshill.com.au/Pale Ale - Fields Brewing Co https://fieldsbrewing.co/Strongarm Export Pilsner - Hop Nation https://hopnation.com.au/ORB & The Gang NEIPA - Ocean Reach Brewery http://oceanreach.beer/Enter The Dragon Dragonfruit & Passionfruit Hazy IPA - Bonehead Brewing Co https://www.boneheadbrewing.com.au/Remember to stay subscribed so you'll know if/when we do anything next, and keep in touch on our socials...we'll probably still occasionally post stuff, there's still plenty left to explore out there... Cheers, Dave and Dave.

  • What a controversial episode this is...first of all, all these beers are 0.5% ABV. Yep you read that right, we've done a couple of mini-eps before, but this is our first ever full length low-alcohol episode! But as we talk about in this episode, this segment of the market is booming, so we thought we'd better jump on the bandwagon too... Another big topic in this ep is that this is the second last episode of Aussie Beer Explorers!!! Maybe not forever, we're not sure yet, but at least for a little while we'll be giving your ears a rest. But feel free to stay subscribed, that way you'll be the first to hear if/when we decide to get going again. So for our penultimate episode we had a go at 8 low-alcohol beers from around the country...and as a special treat for our long-time listeners we even brought back our favourite segment - bogan vs boutique! (Let's face it, Carlton Zero never stood a chance!). • Dave had the chance to visit Cornella Brewery in between a couple of Melbourne's lockdowns a few months ago, and what an awesome looking venue it is! Right near Colbinabbin in central Victoria, it shares the grounds with The Shiraz Republic, there's a stage for entertainment, plus great looking onsite cabins overlooking the vineyard. There was no punters around at the time due to ongoing restrictions, but he was able to grab a few beers, and we finally got stuck into them:

  • September 2021 Hops to Home pack has arrived! Another 5 cracking beers delivered directly to our door for us to bang on about for about an hour. This episode again taps into the Hope Rocks concert at Hope Estate referencing great Aussie rock bands as well as movies such as Young Einstein and The Matrix. Dave also taps in the grey matter and divulges where he was on 8/8/1988. Where were you on 8/8/1988 and have you still got your bicentennial coin that all school aged kids received? • How good is this? Little Creatures sent us a couple of beers to try that we haven't had a crack at in the show yet - two of our old favourites, plus two BRAND NEW BEERS!

Little Creatures is celebrating 21 year of craft brewing with the release of a Pacific Ale and Hazy IPA, which were both released in August.

Also another surprise - for their 21st birthday, Little Creatures’ signature Pale Ale and XPA was released in cans!

Have a listen, as you can probably tell we're excited...

  • Check out these two Non-Alcoholic beers from Athletic Brewing Co! We were fortunate enough to have the guys at Rocket Comms send us these two interesting beers: Upside Dawn Golden AleRun Wild IPA We’ve certainly had a few low/no alcoholic beers on this journey with one of these in particular reminding us of sipping on some wort as it pours out of the brew kettle and into the fermenter, albeit not sweet! We were eager to check these out and had recorded before Rocket Comms advised that you can get these beauties from Woolworths.

  • August 2021 Hops to Home pack has arrived! While much of Australia's population is again stuck in some form of lockdown thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to pivot and deliver the podcast from seperate sheds. Nothing is going to stop us from banging on about awesome Australian Craft Beer while slipping in the odd Coronavirus reference and reminicing about great Aussie Rock and Roll bands that hopefully will be playing at Hope Estate in October.. Who is Nick Barker anyway?? OK, stop screaming at your laptop/desktop/mobile device.. Even after Dave going through Apple Music the following day, he is still struggling to find a song that he knows from Nick Barker & The Reptiles.. • Well blow us down if Victoria hasn’t caught New South Wales’s cold! For reference this episode was recorded just toward the end of June when Melbourne was on top of the dreaded virus and sport was a thing down here again.. • We're in the same shed again! Luckily we were able to catch up in person and enjoy these five cracking beers from Hops To Home.

It was another fun journey, as well as learning about the beers and breweries, along the way we also got to learn about a movie from 1966, and what's the world record for the number of dolls in a babushka doll set??

  • Crikey what a weird moment in time this is...it seems like almost every other capital city apart from Melbourne is on some sort of lockdown! We know how you feel, it was only a few weeks ago when we recorded this episode - and we were in lockdown as well!

  • Brick Lane have teamed up with the Victorian members of Pink Boots Australia to create this limited Stereobreaker Rye Pale Ale. And we were fortunate enough to be sent a couple during Melbroune's Lockdown 4.0! What a ripper of a beer, well done to Emily and the team! Wonder if that's Emily's profile rocking out on the label?? And even though it's only a mini episode, we were also able to sneak in a little experiment at the end...does a previously shaken up beer look and taste the same as a non shaken up one? The results might surprise you... https://bricklanebrewing.com/

  • Victorian lockdown 4.0! Luckily Dave had the chance to get up to Mildura Brewery just before Easter, and we managed to record this brewery special just before everything in Vic went pear shaped again.

Have a listen to hear about the brewery, their beers, and even a history lesson about Big Lizzie (if you're not sure what Big Lizzie is, you sure will after listening to this episode!)

We tasted 7 of their beers:

  • Another mini episode of Aussie Beer Explorers has arrived! Now this one is interesting, featuring two ultra-low alcohol beers from Big Drop Brewing Company. At only 0.5% ABV these beers are definitely a talking point with the flavours not wavering due to the low alcoholic content. The beers we sampled were:⁃Paradiso IPA⁃Galactic Milk Stout Click on the link in the bio or search for Aussie Beer Explorers in your favourite podcasting app. And by the way, excise is not charged on beers with an ABV of less than 1.15% not 0.5% as mentioned in the episode. https://www.bigdropbrew.com/

  • May Hops to Home podcast has arrived! Crikey with 2021 over a third of the way through we’ll be hearing Mariah Carey belting out “All I want for Christmas” before we know it. This episode we were taken way back to the 1980’s and 90’s staple Saturday TV show for many Aussies as well as a classic Australian Film. Can you guess which beer these two references are relating too? The beers we sampled were:Super Juicy New England Pale Ale - Hope BreweryValhalla Pale Ale - Valhalla BrewingGONGIM RIPA - Bodriggy Brewing and Hops to HomeBlood Sacrifice KVEIK Red - Tallboy & Moose and Hops to HomeBlack Days Black IPA - Bonehead Brewing and Hops to Home
