Escapism is one of the more common ways in which we choose to deal with our problems. It takes different forms for each of us and can keep us in an endless loop of ignoring our problems hoping by the time we start paying attention to things they'll have gone away. This is a common question, especially for people who aren't familiar with the dynamics in abusive relationships. Why is it an insensitive question to ask? Why do people keep going back to/stay with people who abuse them either physically, emotionally, financially, etc.?
