The author talks about his visit to Saratoga to honor Alydar's races in the 1978 Whitney (where Alydar finally changes leads for the first time) and the 1978 Travers (which Alydar won by disqualification). Hear the famous call of the Whitney as Alydar "Comes like a shot" to win by a glorious seven lengths. Stanley Broughton, Calumet's maintenance man, discusses Lundy's order to fix the bolts the morning after the accident at 9:00 am, the discarding of the original corroded bolts and the subsequent bracket repair. The controversy over whether Broughton may have accidentally or intentionally disturbed the original bolts is explored. The opinions of the prosecution's expert, Dr. George Pratt, are reviewed in light of Broughton's testimony. Questions about Calumet's security the night of the accident are raised.

In this episode, John Veitch, Alydar's trainer, discusses what he found out about the facts surrounding Alydar's death, and talks about the long history of the Calumet stallion barn and its occupants, including Whirlaway and Citation. Michael Coulter, Alydar's groom at the time of the incident, relates what Alton Stone, the night watchman, told him the morning after Alydar's death about where he was and how long he was gone. Coulter also details his own observations of the stall door and hardware both before and after the accident, and how Alydar fell the second time. Coulter is the only person interviewed who was an eyewitness.

Charlie Rose discusses Alydar's retirement from racing, and saying goodbye to Alydar as he leaves the Belmont barn for the last time. Rose visits Alydar one last time and the horse comes running to meet him and rears up on his hind legs in greeting. Dennis Yokum tells how Alydar arrived at Calumet and goes under an assumed name. John Veitch talks about Lundy's takeover and his own resignation, and how Lundy led Calumet into financial ruin. John Ward, who took over Calumet after Lundy quit, describes for the first time, his theory of how Alydar was injured.
