    Located 58 minutes or 78.7 km down Highway 26 West from Fraser River GM in Quesnel BC is the small mining town known as Wells. Wells was established in the 1930s and was a major center for a time. The town was named after Fred Wells, an American who came to the area on a whim and became an enthusiastic miner, and one of the leaders of the second gold rush.

  • On our adventure- By Car, we take you on an odyssey through Central and Northern British Columbia, home to stone sheep, moose, grizzly and black bear, a natural hot springs pool, ancient totems, legendary fishing, glaciers, the Northern Lights, First Nations culture and Fur Trade history. On this episode, We take a “Detour” to explore some hidden gems, off the main road.

    Today, we begin in Vanderhoof and travel along Highway 16, to Highway 27. Our first detour on this trip is Fort St. James. Fort St. James is a small community in Northern British Columbia built around the National Historic Site of the Hudson’s Bay Company post. Our second detour takes us to Stuart Lake, approximately 35 kilometers from Fort St. James. It is the 8th largest lake in British Columbia.

Jason Ryle, executive director for the William’s Lake and district chamber of commerce. From Williams Lake, we travel along Highway 20, also known as the Chilcotin Highway named after the original stewards of the areas, the Chilcotin people, officially named the Alexander MacKenzie Highway. this is one of the two main East-West routes in the Central Interior of British Columbia. We take a detour off the highway to stop in Dog Creek.

Today we travel from Williams Lake to Bella Coola along Highway 20, an east-west route also known as the Chilcotin highway named after the original people from the area. a detour. On this detour, we travel to Quesnel. 10 minutes west of the city along Baker Drive, we pull up to a 124-hectare parcel of land known as Pinnacles Provincial Park.

    Today we cruise the incredible engineering feet known as the Alaska Highway. Construction of the more than 2000 kilometer Highway officially began on March 11, 1942, about 90 days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Dawson Creek, British Columbia is considered Mile Zero – the beginning of our trip up the Highway towards the capital of the Yukon – Whitehorse.
