In this episode I’m joined by my husband, Mike Bright. Some of you will know Mike from the early days of my content creation, where he used to feature a lot more than he does now. Because he’s played a huge part in my entrepreneurial journey, I thought it would be interesting to shed some light on the complexities of balancing our personal lives, online content creation and finances. We get into our attitudes towards money, our financial compatibility; from how that plays a role in our partnership to how we actually manage our finances. If you’re in a relationship, this is a must have discussion and I’m glad we had them early as it’s one of the pillars to our success as a couple. Mike and I talk about how clear and open communication has helped us build strong foundations in our relationship for business to be that much smoother.

In this episode, I speak with the founder of S’ABLE, Sabrina Elba. Sabrina’s life has taken many turns: from her experiences with university, navigating finances, finding her voice, and cultivating a positive mindset to following her heart to leave Canada and live in the UK with her husband, Idris Elba. As an entrepreneur, we discuss some of the struggles along the way of building a brand and how she got to the success that S’ABLE is today. Plus, we talk about how colourism is very much alive and kicking in the predominantly whitewashed ‘wellness and beauty’ space and how Sabrina has created S’ABLE to go against this grain. Despite the challenges, Sabrina Elba shines. By riding these waves, she has proven more than ever her brand power, and the excitement she has for its future.

In this week’s episode, I delve into the extraordinary life and career of Alec Maxwell, the visionary behind Kloss Films and husband to the brilliant Edward Enninful. Originally from the Wirral, just outside Liverpool, we chat about Alec’s path from studying fashion at university, becoming a lecturer to founding Kloss Films - Alec offers a really interesting insight that anyone wanting to get into the fashion and film industry needs to hear. We also explore his perspective on breaking into fashion today, why he hates the word ‘networking’ and the controversial topic of unpaid internships. Plus, he shares a behind-the-scenes glimpse into some of his most famous collaborations, including a shoot with Rhianna, which I was obsessed with. We also talk about his meticulous planning schedule and why he lives by the mantra of "failing to prepare is preparing to fail."

In this episode of The Break, I get to sit down with entrepreneur and business owner - Krissy Cela, founder at ONER active. As fellow business women, it was such a pleasure to talk about how she has built and scaled her fitness brands. I get into the growth of Krissy's business, her journey towards financial success, as well as the lessons she learned along the way. As a trailblazing creator who has built several thriving online communities, Krissy largely credits her immigrant mentality in driving her mindset and ambition. What I also love about this episode is Krissy’s story behind her journey of healing and empowerment - another way she’s ultimately connected more with her followers and created a community that is authentic and honest.

In this week’s episode I’m joined by the famous cosmetic surgeon behind the UK's first black doctor-owned cosmeceutical brand, ESHO. Dr Esho and I sit down to discuss the boom in cosmetic treatments over the last few years, and how trending procedures and social media filters have led to a rising phenomenon of younger people seeking cosmetic surgery. As more and more of us consider expensive and often sometimes irreversible injectables or cosmetic surgery, I think it’s important to get an honest take from one of the leading Dr’s before you make any decisions. I ask: what are the impacts of cosmetic surgery on our mental health, how has the influence of social media informed beauty standards and if you were to start today, how much would lip filler cost across your lifetime? We delve into the all aspects of the cosmetic industry: is getting tweaks good for confidence? Or is the industry profiting off essentially, people’s insecurities?

Hilarious, relatable and inspiring: I can’t think of anyone better than GK Barry to kick off the new season of The Break with. In this episode, I speak with the TikTok creator turned podcast host, Grace Keeling - widely known as GK Barry. Over the last 3 years, Grace has become a TikTok sensation and chart topping podcaster, all thanks to her outrageous stories, characterization of GK Barry and brutally honest humour.
Her life is as wild as it seems but like most creators who shoot to fame, Grace has faced challenges in her career. Grace takes us through her early life, discussing her experiences growing up in Cambridge, her university years and the challenges she faced while balancing her creator life with her Masters Degree. We discuss what makes Grace so likeable: her relatability, and the pressures of being “always on" as a creator. I love this episode because I think it’s so important to hear creators thinking long term and Grace is doing exactly that: she talks about how she makes her money, and how she’s planning to spend it.

The Break represents the gap between what you see as an ideal lifestyle and how you build a plan to actually get there. For me, Patricia Bright, this began in 2009 when I was creating beauty and fashion content for YouTube alongside being a student and working at an investment bank. After seven years I hit one million subscribers and learned a lot of financial lessons the hard way en route. So, in 2018 I founded my first company, The Break.
I founded this network for women like me, to demystify the journey to personal success and provide access to the tools and education needed to improve financial literacy and bridge the gap to our ideal lifestyles. Now, in 2023, The Break community is 500k+ strong. I was able to navigate the world of personal finance as a fashion-lover, parent and content creator because of open and honest conversations with my own network of family, friends and mentors.
This podcast is an open door to those conversations I’ve been having, so you can learn from the people that I look up to. In each episode expect to hear well-known voices delivering never heard before insights, success AND failure as well as a level of honesty about personal development that you won’t get elsewhere. The Break will support you in learning, growing, navigating life like a boss, and making money move in the process.
Please subscribe, rate and review and if you like what you hear tell a friend to tell a friend.
