2024 was an amazing year at CJN, and we're taking some time to reflect on our annual wrap-up. We discuss our top moments from the year, favorite and least favorite records, and issue a formal apology to one of the members of DC Talk. We continue our yearly tradition of bop/flop revisions, and Drawing Black Lines is desperately looking for redemption. Thanks for an amazing year, and we're looking forward to what 2025 has in store!

The winter solstice is almost upon us, and things have gotten cold, meteorologically and metaphorically. We’re continuing our journey through Jon Foreman’s Seasons EPs with Winter. The season is quite stark at times, but Jon might have hidden the lynchpin to this entire project deep in the snow for us to uncover.
This is our second Jammers Only episode. If you listen on the main feed, you’ll hear our Part A discussion, but the track-by-track breakdown is only available on Patreon. You can access this and other Jammers Only episodes for only $3/month on Patreon!

So look at us now. It’s finally Christmas and we’re covering Let It Snow Baby… Let It Reindeer by Relient K. We bruised our hands decking the halls last year, and now we’re discussing Relient K’s sprawling 2007 Christmas record. We’re not sure whether to call this a reissue or a compilation, but we won’t let that technicality keep us In Like A Lion. From all of us here at Church Jams Now, Merry Christmas, here’s to many more!

We’re covering How The Beautiful Decay by Lightworker, and we’re joined by Joe Calderon and Grayson Hurd. Lightworker released their sophomore LP earlier this year, which makes this a CJN-first covering a new release with the band. Joe & Grayson share their insights on the trying times that shaped this powerhouse record.

We’re back with another episode of Dial M For Martin covering the new Starflyer 59 record, Lust For Gold. Jason has returned to his long-awaited monochromatic sound on his seventeenth LP, despite feeling like his lust for gold has gotten him nowhere. We’ll be the judge of that.

We’re joined by Aaron Lunsford & Colin Kimble from As Cities Burn. At the beginning of 2023, we released our As Cities Burn miniseries, which eventually made its way back to Aaron & Colin. They’re here to help fill in the gaps and provide some additional insight on Louisiana’s finest jazz band.

It’s time to git snake bit. We’re covering A Chorus of Obliteration by The Showdown for its 20th anniversary. David Bunton joins us to deliver A Proclamation of Evil’s Fate and discuss the ins and outs of their debut record. We’re turning up the high voltage heavy metal, and Hell Can’t Stop Us Now.

We're going Back To The Basics covering Patterns by Run Kid Run. We're joined by David Josiah Curtis to take us through their final record. While it may have been their Last Hurrah, Run Kid Run went out in quite the creative swirl of producers, co-writes, and pushing genre boundaries. If you couldn’t see the patterns as they fell, it’s ok because we’re starting over.

This week the trend was to listen to Mmhmm by Relient K for its 20th anniversary. We picked a few conscious hours that we chose to spend and talked away the rest of them. This is the one record Kylan has abstained from revisiting until it was time to cover it on the show. We’ll see if it was worth all the waiting for this to be the episode he was waiting for.

Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing is forever. We're covering No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical by Showbread for its 20th anniversary. This has been a big record we've been waiting to cover on the show with all of its idealist jargon, splintered vertebrae, and paramecium. What lays in store for us as we witness the beauty, the horror of rock that is so raw?

We’re getting into Trouble With X covering The W’s second record in honor of its 25th anniversary. We’re joined once again by Valentine Hellman, and he brought the rest of the W’s horn section with him. Bret Barker and James Carter join our merry crew to give us the 101 on Trouble With X.

Solo September’s been on a roll for a couple weeks or so, and we’ve got momentum, baby! We’re covering TobyMac’s debut solo record, Momentum, and we want to know what be going diggy down with Toby’s Mac in 2001. Get your ticket to ride on the J Train, and let’s Get This Party Started.

We’re coming out like a .45, spinning like a Wurlitzer on overdrive covering the debut solo record from Kevin Max, Stereotype Be. There may have been times he thought, “I Don’t Belong” in DC Talk, but he finally succeeded in Shaping Space for a record all his own. Will we experience a Union Of The Soul, or will we feel he Went Over The Edge Of The World? The curtain’s up baby, it’s all or bust.

We’re kicking off Solo September with Empty by Tait. Interestingly, Michael Tait was the only DC Talk member to form a group instead of going the full solo artist route. Will we be Bonded with his debut “solo” record, or will it seem like things are coming Unglued? One thing is certain. We won’t find ourselves at a Loss For Words either way.

2. The Rock That Doesn't Roll
3. Top 40 Survey
4. UFO
5. All Around The World

7. Déjà vu medley
8. I Am A Servant
9. The Sun Began to Rain
10. Looking For The Footprints
11. Shot Down

The waking of the sun is not that easy. We are here, and we are one with John Amos to cover Haste the Day’s 2010 record, Attack of the Wolf King. This record is held in high regard despite Haste The Day introducing an almost entirely new lineup. The change may have been a Travesty for longtime fans, but we’re here to determine if it truly was Merit For Sadness.

Hey Stranger, you may have heard some Noises that sounded like Big Machines, but it was just us covering To The Secrets & Knowledge by Number One Gun. We’re joined by Luke Bremer who is a champion for this record despite its low regard by The People in the Number One Gun fandom. Will this album get The Victory, or will we Look To Pass our judgments less favorably? We’ll just have to Try It.
