Why are you making a pass on the first date? Warm me up first.
Networking on social media can be like dating, you don't just go asking for marriage on the 1st date. You have to nurture the relationship before you can go for such a large ask. Your music is no different. Joining me on another installment of Sink or Swim are founding members of The Indiepreneur Club Zo-G and Motion as I get their perspectives on this subject. We then dive (no pun intended) into what we believe are better methods to get people to give your music a chance.

The music industry is difficult to navigate for both businesses and artists, and for artists, labels are defining success by their number of streams and top hits. The problem is, not all music is created for the standard hit-producing formula played on the radio. Artists are making authentic music filled with creativity, storytelling, and emotion that fuels their passion for music. Labels wonât see this music as successful: the artist needs to define their own success, but how?

How many of you reading this still work a 9-5 while pursuing music? I'm willing to bet the answer was yes for most if not all. Working a day job and pursuing music is hard as hell. It's seriously tough work but let this episode be a testament that it can be done. I was blessed enough to cross paths with phenomenal artist, marketer, consultant, public speaker Ace Patterson aka Ace Legit. He works at Google by day and by night he is a charting hip hop artist. The way he manages the balance with finesse and grace is remarkable. He and I talk deeply into what fuels him to manage himself this way.

Took some time off but I hade to return with some heavy firepower. Music publishing is something that is HARDLY discussed but the irony is how important it is to succeed. Nobody talks about it and honestly it's the most thrilling thing to learn so I understand being unaware of it's importance. That doesn't make it any less of a thing you need to wrap your mind around. After all...why would you not want to learn how you're going to earn revenue from the music you create? Makes 0 sense to me. Like with all things there are fun parts and not so fun parts, for the not so fun parts self-discipline must take over. Dive in to this episode now where Lauren and I discuss topics that are for certain to send you moving in the right direction.

I know its tough out there on social media needing to stay in front of peoples faces and what not. Trust me as effortless as it may seem on my end I struggle with it too. It's important to know what your options are and that's what I wanted to talk about today. I wanted to deliver some things you can do on social media to make sure you stay in the front of peoples minds. The more ideas you have the more it's going to make it easier to push content out like this to people. You have to remain consistent for people to catch on and if you have nothing...or the same things you're supplying them it's going to be tough. Tune into this episode to hear me give you ideas you can use to post on social media. As always take advantage of my free resources to help you stay ahead of the game.

I was doing my regular reading and research and I came across a quote like this. I paraphrased it but basically this is what it boils down to. You are an indie artist but you must market yourself the same way a major label does their roster. So it's important to market yourself like a major label BUT on an indie budget. How do you do this you ask? No worries, I'll go over this in the episode today. Listen and take notes because I'm going to do my best to change your perception on this subject.
