Are personal changes relevant in the face of the global climate change crisis? This episode of Climate of Joy asks the question "does it matter if I reuse my grocery bags and reduce my carbon footprint when celebrities like Taylor Swift travel around the world in a private jet?"
Inspired by a recent conversation, Christine encourages listeners to resist the temptation to judge others' practices and focus on individual authenticity instead. She highlights the importance of respecting each other's efforts and provides inspirational examples of citizens who made a huge difference despite seemingly insurmountable odds.
But what about the controversial issue of Taylor Swift's personal flying habits? Christine reminds listeners that the onus on climate change doesn't fall onto one individual but is a societal issue deeply rooted in the global economy. Understanding this, there are local governing bodies that are taking actions to hold fossil fuel companies accountable, providing a ray of hope in these times.
In closing, Christine encourages listeners to embrace joy in their lives, claiming gratitude and hope despite the Climate Emergency. In times of uncertainty, we still hold the power to trigger change, both personal and collective.

Her book Do Unto Earth: It’s Not Too Late is a collaboration between PAX, Borgens, and author and energy educator Penelope Jean Hayes. In this Climate of Joy episode, published at the beginning of the COP28 UN Climate conference in the United Arab Emirates, Christine and Carole Serene have a wide-ranging conversation that touches on local food, indigenous wisdom, personal and corporate greed, and how to raise our vibration to change the world.
"It is a part of the greater teaching about how to repair our world today: It comes down to love and respect for all other people, whether we know them or not." Carole Serene Borgens, channeling PAX

Christine explores the idea that the Climate Emergency is calling us to evolve beyond the fight/flight/fear response, and the shift that results when we choose to live as if we, and the world around us, is vibrating energy.

Is it cruel optimism to hold the hope of joy and healing in a time of Climate Emergency and other planetary ecological, economic, and social crises? Cruel optimism is a term coined by Lauren Berlant, and used by Johann Hari, author of Stolen Focus, to describe a focus on individual responsibility that trains people to adjust to a morally unjust social system. Some self-help advice out there is a perfect example of this. Is this also true of the Climate of Joy podcast?
