  • Monterey Car Week is a ten day celebration of everything automotive! It takes place every year in California during the month of August.

For those that have not attended it can be a bit of a daunting experience, how do you plan for the week when there are so many different events taking place?

I decided to create a three part mini series to help provide a roadmap for the event.

While recording we came accross a new event for this year - the Monterey Motorsports Festival. Because we had little knowledge of the event, I reached out to the found and CEO. Here is a bonus epsiode:

Meet Paolo Manca, the mastermind behind the Monterey Motorsports Festival. This episode is a treasure trove of insights from Paolo on how the festival brings together car enthusiasts, supports local businesses, and serves as a platform for nonprofits to raise funds. He opens up about the intention behind designing a versatile event that is accessible to everyone, with features that range from showcasing classic to electric cars, hosting workshops, and setting up off-roading challenges.

  • We talk about us car nuts being part of the same tribe, well my next guest is a tribal leader! Jorge Aquino is a fellow podcaster and a true ambassador for car culture. Based in Tucson AZ he has a finger on the pulse of not only the local scene but wider US car culture and he shares this on his podcast Tormenting Tarmac.

I sat down with him, and the conversation flowed! We talked about the importance of nostalgia and how memories shape our desire for cars. I dig into his motivations to start a car podcast and how he uses it as a vehicle to promote local talent and fellow car lovers. We also talk about how he managed to secure one of his dream guests which has resulted in so much positive feedback and kudos.

It's a must-listen for any member of our car tribe!

He's pretty much done it all in the car world; built and modified cars, worked for BMW and Nissan, written about cars and even raced them. He's hosted a TV show, been a journalist for various magazines and event been a commentator following in the footsteps of his heroes!

He's worked with cars all his life; be that selling them, writing about them or wrenching on them for endurance racing. He got involved with off road racing and was an early contributor to an event many call the "Burning Man" for Off Road Racing.

I sat down with Matt at Dobson Stuttgart (Check out my episode with Dominic Dobson) to talk about all of this as well as a lot more!

Peter is a well known (and loved) Seattle car collector. His collection mainly focuses on BMW Motorsport - the best road car and race car but to me it's a lot more than that!

This is part one of a two-part episode and we talk about the significance of motorsport for BMW in the 70s, where his love for cars came from and some of the pearls in his fantastic collection.

Imagine doing that consistently for two seasons and winning the highest accolade in motorsport - The Formula One World Championship!

Join me as I catch up with my good friend Graeme Hackland who is the first to admit he's not a car guy. There is always an exception to the rule and Graeme is quite possibly the only non-car guy I will have on my show. If Taylor Swift or Kylie agree then I may change my mind.

This episode was so insightful, and I really enjoyed the conversation. We talked about teamwork, what it meant to be part of something very special in the mid 2000s, way before Netflix! Graeme talks fondly about some of the drivers he had the chance to work with and what made one, who is still racing so great! Graeme also talks about how non glamours the sport is for those doing the hard work.

This was a great catch up which I hope you enjoy too!

My thanks to Graeme for taking the time out of a very busy schedule to catch up with me!

There was a lot of uncover in your conversations, classic cars, an aspiration to own a Jaguar (Jagwire) before he was 30 and doing some strange things with a car usual reserved for burying the dead.

One film from Simon's childhood led him on a journey to import the hero car from the film. He then had to restore the car which nearly killed him, literally.
