    About the episode:
Is Kombucha safe for kids? What about the sugar? The caffeine? The alcohol? Is it ok to buy or does it need to be homemade? If we buy it, what do we look for on the label? What is “sugar free” kombucha? Is Kombucha really as healthy as people say? What if you have candida overgrowth? Or histamine intolerance?

On this episode we invited The Kombucha Mama herself, Hannah Crum, to answer all this and more.

Did you know that the sugar in Kombucha has a lower glycemic impact than normal sugar?

The health impact of Kombucha goes far beyond gut health. In this episode, we discuss the benefits and misconceptions of Kombucha.

    Some takeaways:
Kombucha - a fermented tea - has the capacity to nourish us beyond the body. “Kombucha is abundance in action”The sugar in kombucha, while necessary for the fermentation process, has a lower glycemic impact on the bodyThe caffeine content in kombucha can actually have a calming effect due to the synergy of the acids in the drinkPeople with histamine intolerance may have trouble with kombucha until gut health is improved in other waysMaking kombucha at home allows for more control over the yeast/bacteria balance but there are some good ones on the market Kombucha has detoxifying effects on the liver and can support sugar metabolism. The alcohol content in kombucha does not have an intoxicating effect. In fact, it may help curb alcohol cravings.Guest Bio:

    About the episode:
In this episode, we discuss the importance of knowing what is in and on our food so we can make educated quick decisions at the grocery store. Marketing tactics and product creep in stores have become harder and harder to navigate and we need to be savvy shoppers if we want to nourish our kids while also finding healthy shortcuts! We talk about food labels and the things we each consider hard “NOs” when it comes to convenience foods.

But Jenn is changing all that. She helps girls and women take control of their health and hormones by understanding the power of their bodies and their cycles. Since she uses food as an integral tool for helping people manage their hormones, we talked about how we can motivate girls to embrace their bodies and support their health as they move through the teen years. “Regenerating health will start when the burden of toxic chemicals begins to lift. Without addressing this underlying burden on the body, the effort to consume nutrient-rich food is simply a way to plug the holes of vitamin and mineral deficiencies caused by glyphosate.”- Kathleen DiChiara.

In this episode, Kathleen describes her dramatic journey feeding her family, how she figured out that chemicals in the food were a major trigger for her and her family’s health issues, and how she turned things around. We have a straightforward and honest conversation about food quality, making decisions about where to spend our money, the value of keeping chemicals out, and how the phrase “let food be thy medicine” might be steering us in the wrong direction.

    Guest Bio:

Kathleen DiChiara is a Functional Diagnostic NutritionÂź Practitioner, BioIndividual Nutrition Practitioner, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, health advocate, and trained chef. She is the founder of Rhode to Health, Inc., an internationally-recognized nutrition educator, author, researcher, speaker, mom of three, and health advocate.

Kathleen broke into the field of nutrition when at age 35, she went from being a competitive triathlete working in capital markets at a Fortune 500 company to completely disabled. At the same time, her son was diagnosed with autism and she counted 25 chronic illnesses just in her family of 5 alone! These events served as inspiration for Kathleen’s career change and commitment to reeducation.

Her most recent award-winning book, End Chronic Disease: The Healing Power of Beliefs, Behaviors, and Bacteria explores the intersection of mindset, daily habits, and the microbiome.

    About the episode

What we feed our kids matters. But what are some simple ways to get deep nourishment into them when we’re tired, busy, and frustrated with their picky behavior? Jess invited James Barry, dad and professional chef, to talk about some simple ways to pack in the nourishment. They also talked about the tremendous nutritional value of organ meats like liver, kidney, heart, and tongue, and how to get past the yuck factor so you can add them to your cooking repertoire in delicious and simple ways.

    About the Episode
Nourishing Exceptional Kids - getting beyond “fixing” and truly helping kids thrive

In this episode Jess invites Susan Baker to talk about her journey with her now 13 year old son Andrew who has autism and communicates without speaking. Susan shares her journey - from the early days to now - and talks about the impact of food and the challenges of feeding her son, along with how she came to understand and accept who he is so he could truly thrive as his best self.

    Susan Baker’s Bio
Susan Baker is the mom to two beautiful children, Andrew, 13, and Abby, 10. She is the author of Life, Love & Autism, a blog that chronicles her family’s journey of growth and challenge, including love, loss and an autism diagnosis. Often hilarious, sometimes hard, but most certainly inspiring, Life, Love & Autism is raw, real, and relatable, even to those without autism in their lives. The stories are about the human connection and what brings us together— the joy, the challenge, and the learning that comes from it all. Susan is a holistic nutritionist by training and has been in the natural health industry since 2001.
