  • Close your eyes and let Ed and Andy engulf you in some word wizardry, taking you back over 100 years to to tread the boards of the Berlin stage. In those simpler times, a bisexual occultist would have been the exception rather than the rule but time’s arrow marches forward and Berlin, thankfully, welcomes all. Even those who eat all the tart!

Creative freedom is a double edged chainsaw. We carve open the fruit of possibility and feast on the flesh of hope before violently stabbing ourselves in the leg and bleed out in the shadows of obscurity. Life imitates Podcast.

    This is Get Folked.

  • Hawkin' Twang, formerly known as The Nancy Boys, formally known as Nancy Boys, formally known as Nancy and very briefly known as Woof said Faherty, make their long awaited rebrand at Madonna fest 2024.

Some jaw dropping statistics around the survival rates of baby turtles give Ed and Andy pause for reflection, they challenge the common misconception surrounding Hitler's footballing prowess and they discuss how wood chippers can often bring the best, and the worst, out of mankind. Let’s Get Folked.

  • Ed returns to work this week and, for the first time in a long time, does not mention the treehouse on the podcast (except for in this blurb which totally doesn't count).

In one of their many digressions Andy and Ed hypothesize about how many 9-year-olds would be needed to take each of them down in, what would be for a little while at least, the world's cutest fight to the death.

Andy's week was objectively cooler than Ed's with some daytime clubbing, a visit to the party bridge, and some bean stew being just some of the highlights as he plugs an upcoming gig for "Nancy Boys" to mark Madonna Bar's 40th Birthday on Friday the 20th.

Come join us for episode 38 of the Get Folked podcast where you are sure to learn strange and wonderful mistruths.

  • What's in a name? There seems to be a lot as Andy and Ed revisit the subject of band names, displaying what might worryingly be considered, at least for two song writers, a distinct lack of imagination. But this isn't all that's going on with your two favourite podcasters.

Ed reminisces about a memorable Sunday afternoon from his adolescence when a blunder by the censors at Ireland's national broadcaster allowed 1970s Barbara Bach into the unsuspecting and pleasantly surprised kitchens of Ireland in all her glory. Also dominating Ed's week in a way that nothing else can, the treehouse . . . . always the treehouse.

Andy finds ever more musicians to rub shoulders with in the artistic milieu of Berlin including Irish band The Murder Capital, but he also takes the opportunity (on two occasions) to mix it up with the young people of the city and see if he still has what it takes. These efforts result in a bad back and a suspiciously empty dance floor. Damn those pesky kids!

  • What do Chat GPT, Croatian Kayaking, Swing Dancing, and Man-Eating Donkeys have in common? Join us for Episode 36 of the Get Folked Podcast and find out.

Car trouble can't stop Ed from exploring the delights on offer in The Bodhrán pub in Mitchelstown where he finds the folk generous in their offers of drink, urinal chats, and even flamenco dancing (sort of), while offers of cheese are conspicuously absent. He even gets to see his potential future self in that night's musical act but was so mesmerised that he forgot to get music clips or the band's name (insert eye-roll here).

Thankfully, Andy brings music clips of "George and His New Heartaches" from his visit to a Swing Dance event in Berlin's Templehofer Feld to keep the Podcast's tether to music intact. He also employs Chat GPT for some help in his house-keeping with results that are . . . . ambiguous at best, but don't take my written word for it, press that play button and take my spoken word for it instead.

  • And so, after logging over 3000 minutes of untethered rambling, Ed and Andy put on their professional boots and thread the boards with heads held high.

Housekeeping is researched and shared between the pair with a few more factual insights into the carnal comings and goings of crows, basic Math get's explained to both gentlemen and Matthias Hohner is given the credit he deserves for blessing the earth with melodic wonders and giving lost 80'S kids a voice

Live folk music from a van parked at the top of O'Connell street sees Ed entertained in Limerick... and that's even before he hears what Snuggles and the Sandbox have to offer, while Andrew happens upon a Spati concert and the release of some new fat beats from the Hip Hop scene.

An altogether well packaged episode, complete with secret track for those who stick around to the bitter end. We were so close!

  • Andy's whirlwind tour of Europe continues as he broadcasts this week from Poland. A brief stop-off in Berlin beforehand allows him time to bring us all a sample of some musical talent which caught his ear in the form of Italian folk singer Johnny Ursi (Link to his Instagram below), whose version of a well loved Irish ballad draws admiration from Andy and Ed.

Rounding out the episode the animal kingdom provides the guys with ever more fodder for wonderment and discussion as Ed brings house-keeping to the centre stage with an awful lot of mostly useless information. Not falling into the category of useless information however; a compare and contrast on Mosquitos and Midges, the results might surprise you.

Other than that, an upcoming cultural experience for Ed will, alas, have happened in the past for you dear listener by the time you hear this episode as he can't quite get the hang of what it means to promote an event with the Festival in a Van visiting Limerick on Sunday the 11th of August. He tries to make up for this fumble with a new music clip from the band's latest song as they work their way towards album completion one percent at a time. Join us for another episode of "Get Folked".

  • Get Folked finds its spiritual home in a half-built bungalow as Andy and Ed record this week’s episode, along with their first ever very special guests, in and among the high art, fine stud-work, and academic records of Andy’s family.

The guests shirk off their alter-egos and flex their intellectual muscles on topics such as the "Sacred Heart" and how it can be used to win the love of a lady, the bogs of Ireland and what the f*%k we are doing there, the dangers of teaching children how to read, and the mating rituals of crows.

Andrew's time in Ireland continues and his recent days of treasure hunting at home net him memories of heart-felt mis-spellings from past pupils, a confrontation with what a bold boy 14-year-old Andrew was, and some good advice from mischievous puppets on what not to stick into a cup of tea.

And Ed offers up the definitive telling of the infamous "Great Trumpet Larceny of 2003" and, in true tragic style, uses it as a moral tale on why some mothers cannot be trusted.

It's all in Episode 33 of the Get Folked podcast. Come have a listen. What's the worst that can happen.

P.S: This episode also includes a graphic audio clip of crows getting it on quite loudly. Enjoy.

  • Ed's Berlin return continues with a week-long food-eating fiesta. It's far from avocados he was raised, but embracing the culinary as well as the musical delights Berlin has to offer is what he does. Ed also visits one of Andrew's regular folk nights in Bavul while sharing some of the more sad observations of his former Kiez (a pretentious way of saying “neighbourhood”).

Andrew returns to Ireland for the first time in a year and is lifted by the Irish people's love of small talk. He drags the sun kicking and screaming with him as he wanders the town of Navan and the hills of Howth, managing to find a musician or two along the way.

  • Andy and Ed give David Attenborough something to worry about as they take this week's podcast outdoors and into the wild. Observing the bounty which nature has put on display they record from Berlin's Gorlitzer Park on a warm Summer Sunday afternoon.

Attracting glances from the natives, some curious, some sultry, some seductive(?), the guys bring you the latest episode of Get Folked and with it music from the Berlin clubs, some rap/country-western mash-up, and even a little of their own music. This week, dear listener, you are being spoiled.

The sun is out, the heat is hot, the park is the place to be. Is it pretty? Yes. Is it risqué? Yes. Is it smelly? Sometimes. But, that's Gorli baby!

    Enjoy.

  • Ed's week fails to penetrate beyond his Covid quarantine, but he still finds time for some backfiring parental guidance and also some real-world house-keeping (God bless those rods).

Gorlitzer Park offers up it's wonders and mysteries for Andrew's consideration and delight as he lets the summer vibes wash over his sleeveless arms for the 3rd week in a row, but who's counting?

  • And the beat goes on. Ed finds himself in unfamiliar territory this week as the marching season kicks off early, or right on time depending on what calendar you use, and some locals bring him up to date.

Andrew cleanses his spirit with an afternoon of Maori folk singing, navigating all the melodies with his own personal understanding of precision.

Farewell to the roaring twenties on Get Folked.

  • From the flax fields of France to the seductive streets of Coventry, forged in the mountains of Hokkaido while invoking the ancestral spirits of Saigon comes a podcast as old as time. He never expected to find love on a plane, but jumping out of one set in motion a series of events that would mildly inconvienance his life...FOREVER!

  • Andrew takes a break from maths this week and immerses himself in all things musical, from a classically trained Japanese guitarist on the outskirts of Berlin to the expressive notes of some avant-garde ping-pong balls closer to home.

Meanwhile, a slightly hungover Ed ponders aloud some of the big mysteries of our time; Why does online shopping so often result in the unintentional purchase of "clown pants"? and, If one's underpants can mistakenly be considered to be invisible, are potential "Peeping Toms" happy or sad?

Join us for another wondrous wander.

  • Andy and Ed's attempt to hold each other to account for their verbal ticks takes a decidedly abrupt turn towards BDSM in the latest episode of the Get Folked podcast.

Reflections on Father's Day cause Andy to bemoan the fact that he gets scammed twice a year. Why does the EU fail to pass legislation synchronizing each nation's celebration of their Patriarchs? Could this be the issue that gets Andy and Ed elected to the next EU Parliament? (Actually, these last two sentences weren't discussed during the podcast, but sometimes these blurbs are hard to write and I need to add some filler).

A Berlin camping trip provides a strong case for why mosquitos need to f#@koff and find their own god-damn tent, while the ideas stay coming thick and fast as the guys float the concept for what sounds like a perfect movie sequel and somehow, inexplicably, the subject of sexy Yetis comes up. Finally, someone had the guts to say it!

It's all in Episode 26 of the Get Folked podcast (except the EU Parliament stuff).

    Enjoy.

  • Join us for the 25th Episode of the Get Folked podcast as the silver jubilee descends upon us. Andy and Ed use this auspicious occasion to bid farewell to the world they once knew, in which the hardest thing about mathematics was long division, and step tentatively into a world where numbers define not just your name and the essence of your character, but the direction in which you should urinate.

And for all you music lovers out there, if earth-shattering mathematics isn't your thing, fear not, clips from singer-songwriter Niamh Regan's recent pop-up session at Steamboat music store in Limerick are on hand as she promotes her latest album "Come as you are".

This episode will leave you asking yourself two things: 1) Do I have what it takes to join the Pythagorean Brotherhood? and 2) Where can I find more Niamh Regan music? The answer to the first question, dear listener, is "Probably not". The answer to the second question can be found in the links below to Niamh Regan's Website, Instagram, and Spotify. But first, have a listen to Episode 25 of Get Folked and leave the world where 1+1=2 behind you forever.

  • Where once there was but darkness and ignorance in the world Andy and Ed come forth in the latest instalment of your favourite podcast and bequeath knowledge unto the masses through their illuminating discourse on literature, history, musical theory, mathematics, theology, and the deceptive ways of a very observational horse. All of this is, of course, set against the back-drop of Andy's most recent excursion into the world of Albanian Folk Music (this link will take you to the site of that excursion on instagram).

Honestly, this episode belongs in the lecture halls of prestigious universities, or should be beamed into outer space as an indication to all alien life of the high water mark in learning which has been reached by modern human civilization, failing those two mediums we'll also settle for your podcast app of choice.

  • Theology and Theme Parks make surprising conversational bed-fellows as Andy and Ed reminisce and compare notes on the pros and cons of being alter boys in their respective parishes back in the day (yes that day was the 80s). This subject causes the unexpected need for deep questions to be tackled head-on: Communism Vs Capitalism. Individual Enrichment Vs the Common Good. Should those who serve be paid for their service or should the wealth of the few be shared by the many? And just how old is too old before you should really stop getting on those tiny amusement rides meant for small babies? So many questions! What are we to make of it all? Listen to this week’s episode of "Get Folked" to find out more, while not necessarily finding any answers.

  • BOOM! Another Get Folked episode makes it to the editor's desk before deadline. Tactics on how to make friends are discussed as well as the chronic shortage of Bouncy Castles. Is this an indication of the decline of western civilization or merely a minor inconvenience to too many stressed out parents as they cram themselves into one small urban location?

And, in a rare melancholy moment for the podcast, daylight robbery strikes in Berlin! This one is an emotional roller coaster.

Also, Ed is wearing a peaked hat and sunglasses during this episode and possibly from now on. No big deal.
