Danny Clark, founder of Florio Golf, understands that talking about mental health isn’t always easy—especially if you’re someone who tends to keep things to yourself. As a former competitive golfer who’s faced his own mental health challenges, Danny discovered that golf became more than just a scorecard; it turned into a way to unwind, reflect, and enjoy genuine conversations without the usual pressure.
Florio Golf was born from a simple idea: to make mental health a regular part of the conversation in golf. The goal is to break the stigma by creating a space where golfers can talk openly, check in with each other, and feel supported, without turning every round into a therapy session.
In final episode of Season 2 of the GYH podcast, Kris and Danny get into all things Golf, Mental Health and much more.

As newcomers, Golfing environments can sometimes feel foreboding and intimidating…
So much so that it’s easy to convince ourselves we don’t belong there. However, with a bit of self-belief and the right role models to look up to, we can soon feel right at home in Golf…
This week’s GYH Podcast guest is Genelle Aldred, an experienced Broadcast Journalist and Communications Consultant, who combines her professional expertise with a love for Golf.
In January 2023, Genelle wrote about her Golfing journey in The Observer, a piece which was described by the R&A as a “love letter to Golf”. Since then, she written extensively for Golf media publications, documenting her own playing experiences, as well as advocating for Diversity and Inclusion.
After playing 9 holes of Golf at the picturesque Essendon Country Club, Kris and Genelle sat down for a wide ranging conversation, covering various themes including:
👉🏻 Why everyone should feel like they belong in Golf
👉🏻 How to show up confidently in Golf and in life
👉🏻 How privately owned Golf clubs like Essendon Country Club are leading the way in exceptional customer experience
👉🏻 Why Golf could benefit from thinking “outside of the box” to attract more newcomers

In this heartfelt solo episode, Kris anticipates the birth of his daughter and shares his hopes for the forthcoming parenting journey. Looking back on the passing of his son in 2023 and the lessons which both Golf and grief have taught him, he also offers a few heartfelt, yet humourous anecdotes about how his obsession with the game hindered his better judgement, when it came to preparing for Innes' funeral.
Finally, reflecting on our most recent guest episode with Dr Ian Peek - in which we discussed the role of parents in introducing our children to Golf and encouraging participation on their terms - Kris also invites you, the GYH Community members, to share your own experiences of how you've introduced your children or wider family to the beautiful game.

Mental Health matters, whether you’re an everyday Golfer, or a professional playing at the highest level. That is a view held not only by ourselves here at GYH, but also by this week’s guest, Dr Ian Peek.
Ian is a Master PGA Professional - a recognition of excellence which the PGA bestows on only a select few members - who recently completed a PhD in Social Psychology, examining the mental health challenges faced by some of the world's best golfers.
As part of his research, he interviewed 16 tour professionals, including Ryder Cup players and past champions on the DP World Tour. In his findings, it transpired that 50% of the players cited long-term depression and anxiety, with some even experiencing it whilst operating at the highest level of the game.
In a far-reaching conversation, Kris and Ian explore:
👉🏻 How are attitudes towards and discussions about Mental Health evolving within Golf?
👉🏻 How can we get enjoyment from Golf, whilst still striving for high performance?
👉🏻 How can club golfers set effective and realistic goals to improve their game?
👉🏻 What role do parents play in supporting young athletes?

Katie Dawkins is an experienced and passionate Golf coach, whose human-centered coaching philosophy focuses on helping her students to become not only the best Golfer they can be, but also the best version of themselves.
As Katie attests to, Golf can teach us valuable lessons about life and how we show up in the world. Equally, when we inevitably experience adversity at different times in our lives, Golf can offer comfort, solace and a chance to rethink how we live our lives.
Through the sudden loss of her son, Teddy, as well as living with ADHD, Katie has learned from adversity and positively channels these experiences, to allow her to be the best Golf coach she can be and help others to obtain maximum enjoyment and a sense of belonging within the game.

Golf has the power to change, shape and save lives. That is a view shared by not only ourselves here at GYH, but especially by this week’s guest, Joe Donnelly, CEO of T.A.M.H.I (Tackling Awareness of Mental Health Issues).
Born out of trauma and tragedy, T.A.M.H.I was founded in memory of Joe’s dear friend, Thomas (Tammy) Tucker, who died by suicide in 2009. Based in Northern Ireland, Joe founded the charity in the belief that sport can act as an enabler of raising awareness and encouraging conversations about emotional wellbeing.
Under Joe’s leadership, TAMHI has received widespread acclaim and various awards for their work, most recently winning the Sport Gives Back Social Impact award, presented by footballing legend, Frank Lampard, earlier this year.
This is a deeply moving and inspiring episode, which isn’t short of a few tears shed by both Joe and Kris during the conversation, as well as plenty of laughs, particularly about Joe’s first ever set of golf clubs and the nicknames he got when using them!

As is commonplace at GYH, we bring Wellbeing into the spotlight, with both Mils and Emelia sharing their experiences of living with ADHD, and how Golf has helped them on that journey.

When 3 bereaved fathers come together, bonded by their shared experience of Baby Loss, amazing things can happen. When Golf is added to the mix, the possibilities are endless.
On Friday 14 June 2024, Kris Lynch, Ben Seabrook and Mike Harris joined forces at Prince’s Golf Club, in Sandwich, Kent, to undertake an all day Golf challenge in support of Sands.
Sands works to save babies' lives and ensure that anyone affected by pregnancy or baby loss gets the support and care they need, in a way that works for them, for as long as they need it.
Through their fundraising efforts and thanks to the wonderfully kind donations of family, friends and followers, the boys raised over £1,800 for Sands.
This podcast episode is a raw, emotional and vulnerable account of three Fathers’ grief. It also a humorous, self deprecating and often slapstick account of three average Golfers having spent 14 hours trying to whack a small white ball into a tiny hole, multiple times over until their bodies and minds scream “No More!!!”.
