My guest for this episode is my friend Jackie Lemus. At the end of college, she started feeling like she was feeling really uncomfortable in her skin and realized that a change needed to be made from her sedentary student obligations. So that's why she started, like a lot of us, using cardio machines at our local gyms.
Her exercise story started off with "How do I lose weight?" And it transformed into a question of "How do I get stronger? How do I increase my confidence and how do I continue to feel more powerful than I did yesterday?"To learn how she transitioned from the cardio machines to the weight room of the gym, check out Jackie's story!

Hello, and welcome to the gym class revolution podcast. I'm your host Wendy Barrios, my pronouns are she/her, And I'm an Exercise Mindset Specialist.
This show is about digging deep into exercise and really analyzing what kind of psychology or narrative is around exercise. Why are you choosing these exercise goals? What do these goals reflect of your values? And how does that all paint into the narrative that you have around yourself worth? Let's go! -
Have you ever wanted to start swing dancing, but hesitant about looking silly? According to Becky Diaz, it's not only super fun, but life changing, too. As an "arts and crafts" type of kid, she found a life long passion for movement starting in swing dancing. Leaping into dance created:

Here are my top 3 tips for sticking with New Year's Resolutions around exercise!
1) Examine where is the mindset behind the goal? Is it positive loving energy? Or is it energy filled with resentment?
2) Start as soon as possible (don't wait for Jan 1st) and start with baby steps to build confidence.
3) Conduct your efforts like an experiment. If your plans go awry, examine how you can change your variables to produce a different outcome. -
Do you feel like you're embarking on exercise goals with a little voice in the back of your head? Is it saying that this is time is going to end up with the same results as when you tried last time?
Pause your efforts to assess your mindset to determine what your personal narrative around exercise is and how it's affecting your efforts. In this episode, we go through my Mindset Reflection Exercise (link below) for my honest answers and how this exercise can benefit your own endeavors.
Of those who complete and submit the exercise below, I'll choose 5 people to hop on a free 30 minute call with me so we can set up an Exercise Reboot Game Plan to flesh out your next steps!

If you search for motivation tips, they'll tell you things like, "Schedule it into you calendar," or "Switch up your routine." These tips are very surface-level and don't address the source and the energy behind your motivation to exercise. What good is "switching up your routine," if you're mentally berating yourself to exercise? In this episode we'll talk about investigating what narrative is painted around exercise and how this narrative sets up your motivation to exercise.

Before we talk about how to incorporate exercise into self care, let's explore the benefits physical activity on mental health.
https://justiceforbreonna.org/ -
When you were a kid, Did you despise gym class because everyone could see your flimsy athletic ability?
Now that you’re older, do you go through cycles of forcing yourself to go to the gym, punishing yourself with grueling workouts, and quit on your goals until it starts all over again?
Do you struggle with self care because all those articles filled with self-care tips don't really seem to help?
Then great news, my podcast is here to help! My name is Wendy Barrios. My pronouns are she/her, and I’m the host of the Gym Class Revolution podcast.
On this show, We’re on a mission to promote exercise not as a means for weight loss, but as a tool for self care. On this show, we talk about physical activity beyond the usual gym workouts to revolutionize what exercise means and transform your self care.
This podcast was created specifically for marginalized communities because not all fitness spaces were created for us so We focus on experiences from black, indigenous, people of color, LGBTQ folks, and folks with disabilities. With this focus, we aim to make exercise more accessible, so that its positive effects will reverberate throughout our communities.
So if this sounds like your jam, come on in! We’re glad to have you! Welcome to Gym Class Revolution. Let's go!
