  • Introduction: Who Are My Enemies? My enemies are people With bad intentions . My enemies are Who I say they are . Jesus's Example (Romans 5:8-11)

Romans 5:8,10-11 - but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us... For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Titus 3:3-5 - For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy...

2 Tim 4:7-8 - I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22 - And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Some people believe all these events Jesus described (Matt 24:4-14) happened in the 1st century, and some people believe they are all in the future tribulation. What reason do we have to believe that these events take place during the “church age” (=now)?

Jesus said when we see these signs, we should not be alarmed (Matt 24:6b). Do you get alarmed at the news? What’s the difference between “not really caring about what’s happening” to “not being alarmed”?

  • Introduction:

Isaiah 53:10 - Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

The Cross in Psalm 16: What is the prophecy of the messiah's suffering?

Psalm 16:8-11 - I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

How did Jesus fulfill this prophecy on the cross?

    "Holy One"

Luke 23:46 - Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" And having said this he breathed his last.

Hebrews 12:2 - who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross...

What does this prophecy mean for us? What NO Resurrection of Jesus Means to Me: (1 Corinthians 15) NO RESURRECTION = No Reason for Faith . (1 Cor 15:14-15) NO RESURRECTION = No Forgiveness of sin. (1 Cor 15:16-17) NO RESURRECTION = No Reunion with those who died before Us. (1 Cor 15:18) NO RESURRECTION = No Hope . (1 Cor 15:19)

Romans 10:9-10 - if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

What was your big take-away from this passage / message?

How do we know Psalm 16:8-11 is about the Messiah (Jesus), and not David? How do we know this is specifically about the resurrection of the Messiah?

In 1 Corinthians 15:14, Paul says if Jesus didn’t resurrect, our faith is in vain. Why is the resurrection of Jesus the most crucial doctrine of faith?

1 Corinthians 15:16-17 says if Jesus did not resurrect, we are still in our sins. If Jesus died for our sins, why did He HAVE TO resurrect? Why can’t we just believe He died for our sins, without believing He rose from the dead?

If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross." So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, "He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

The Cross in Isaiah (Isaiah 53): What is the prophecy of the messiah's suffering? How did Jesus fulfill this prophecy on the cross?

2 Corinthians 5:21 - For our sake he (God) made him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him (Jesus) we might become the righteousness of God.

What does this prophecy mean for us?

Philippians 3:3-6 - For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh— though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.

For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith
