  • Hello Friends!
Happy Summer! Summer is here. Officially. We will see the real summer weather in the next couple of months, but now the low temps are well above freezing and the highs are 10-12C/ 50-55F Which to me is great weather. Humidity is low so these temps feel warmer. Everything hasn't turned completely green yet, but it is soon to be here. Let's talk about northern lights and how it the rest of Europe and North America just got a taste of what we experience every year in Iceland. My first tour of May was one with my Mom. We visited the Golden Circle and met some interesting people on the way. Enjoy the episode! Hope to see you soon!

  • Hello Friends! In this episode I talk about being safe when coming to Iceland. There is so much to see and so many places to go. It's easy to be distracted by the intoxicating beauty of this wonderful country. I'll be speaking to common sense and being focused on being safe. New Yorkers know that not walking through Central Park at night is common sense. Here, getting your vehicle or yourself out of the road before taking a photo is/should be common sense. Heeding waring signs and speed limit signs should also be common sense. I'll be talking about all these things and more. Look below to see links for road conditions, road closings and other useful safety information.

The emergency number in Iceland is 112 (Iceland's version of 911)

  • The Icelandic Rock ´n´Roll Museum opened in 2014. Of the thousands of famous and world famous Icelandic musicians, many are exhibited here. Shout out to the musicians that are not featured yet! When you come to Iceland make sure to put this museum at the top of your list. All musical genre are represented here. Whatever kind of music you like, there's an Icelandic band or musician that plays it. In this episode, I go over the highlights of my visit and my hope is that you get a chance to come and enjoy this special museum at some point. I had a great time and I´m definitely going back!
The museum is located less than 10 minutes from the Keflavik international airport.
    Enjoy the episode!

  • Hello Friends!
It's time for an update as to what's going on with the volcano and what to expect going forward. Since the prior podcast we've had an eruption, the winter solstice, 25 days of Christmas (I think I said 26 on the pod) 12 leading up to and 12 going out until the 6th of January ( Plus Christmas Day itself) and New Year's Eve celebration. I'll be talking about all of that and a little more.

  • Hello Friends!
We are currently anticipating a volcanic eruption. Well, since Friday we've been on an "anytime now" or "maybe never" status. It basically means that experts can theorize what may happen. However, you just can't know until it actually happens. I hope that makes sense. l would also like to make a correction about the lava tube or corridor that I spoke of. It is not under the Blue Lagoon but also not far away either. It looks like the people of Grindavik have a long road ahead. Let's keep them in our thoughts and prayers. If you would like to donate money to the Icelandic Red Cross or to the Icelandic Search and Rescue teams, you'll find the links below.

  • Hello Friends!
Winter is coming! I'm excited about it! Summer is my favorite season in Iceland, fall is a close second. Northern lights are shining brightly like a rainbow in the night sky. Halloween (Hrekkjavaka) is coming, and it has been growing in popularity every year people started observing it here. Thanksgiving (Þakkargjörð) is also observed in Iceland. Not for the same reasons Americans have to be thankful for, but you will see turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce available in Icelandic supermarkets the week leading up toThanksgiving and all the way through Christmas, for that matter. Also, you will see North American pumpkins (the orange ones) available for Halloween and Thanksgiving. They were non existent here until recent years. I've even seen the pumpkin pie filling in a can. If you find yourself in Iceland between now and December 25th this is what you have to look forward to. I hope to see you all here!

  • Hello Friends!
In this latest episode of Museum Visits, I visited the Icelandic Phalloloigcal Museum.
It was founded in 1997 by Sigurdur Hjartason. His son Hjortur Gisli Sigurdsson now runs the museum. I visited this museum many years ago before it moved from Husavik way up north. It is now much bigger and better and has many new specimens. Now it's here in downtown Reykjavik situated in the midst of all types of shops and restaurants (and other museums) It only costs 2750 ISK or about $20 USD. It's well worth it. There's a gift shop for all the penis key chains and t shirts and such and a cafe that also serves BEER. It really was super interesting. I highly recommend paying them a visit.

  • In this episode. I go into further detail about being safe if you're thinking about taking the hike out to see this ongoing eruption. I also talk about the importance of heeding warnings that are issued.
As of Tuesday night at 21:30. The Mayor of Grindavik (closest town) has ordered the closure of all roads/paths leading to the site of the eruption. It is has been recommended that people stay indoors and keep windows closed.

I will also be answering questions/reading letters on the next podcast.
so stayed tuned it might be your letter!

  • I'm talking about the volcano that just erupted today. I'm also talking about last year's trip to the volcano and the adventure that it was. (There were three eruptions in as many years)
I also discuss ways to stay safe out there. How I made it out there and back unscathed.
If you're thinking about hiking to the volcano, be prepared. I can't stress that enough.

  • First episode in the "Museum Visits" series. A short review on this "living Museum" just 10 minutes from downtown Reykjavik. This one is a definite must see. A complete view of what life was like in the 18 and early 1900s. There were moments when I felt like I was back in those times! You can be there in 10 minutes by car or 20 by bus. (from downtown) Enjoy!
