[Chief Strategy Officer STIEG TARANE, wearing cargo shorts and a desert camo tank top, slides onto a bench press in the Habis Security Corp.’s company gym. He squares his shoulders and grips the barbell, then takes a glance around the room, spotting KENNITH FRAKES—a junior executive in charge of the engineering department—wiping his brow with a towel as he steps off a nearby machine.]
ST: Hey Frakes, could I get a spot over here?
KF (slinging his towel over his shoulder and standing behind the barbell, hands on hips): Of course, Mr. Tarane.
ST (begins a set of bench press reps): Call me Stieg.
KF: Okay, Stieg.
[The two men say nothing as ST finishes up his set. Then he flexes, claps his hands twice, and sits up.]
ST: You know about engineering, yeah, Frakes?
KF: That’s my department. We’ve got a simple relativistic drive in development right now, it’s very exciting stuff.
ST: I’m sure it is. What is it costing us [...]

[episode CW: graphic violence, peril]
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.- Litany Against Fear, Dune

[CW: substance use]
[The camera pans in from above a shiny glass and concrete building, large angular windows stabbing upwards towards the sky, solar panels sparkling on the roof, a corrugated metal hangar stretching out towards the rolling fields behind the building. The camera zooms through one of the windows to a third floor classroom. About two dozen desks are arranged in rows. MARA ROOKSON, a Prophet Candidate, is slumped over in her chair at a desk near the back of the room, sleeping with her head down on the desktop. Two of her classmates, TINE LEWIS and RENCE ERSON are talking while they tidy the classroom. All of the children are 15 years old.]
TL (resting her broom handle on her shoulder and biting her lip): Hey Rence, have you gotten your assignment yet?
RE (exhales heavily, running a hand through her hair): Yeah.
TL: Oh.
[TL resumes sweeping, steering the push broom between the desks while RE begins wiping off the desktops with a damp [...]

[CW: blood]
[The DUCHESS OF ROSETTA waves a lacy fan nervously, the setting sun glittering off her voluminous gold and green brocade skirts as she gazes out the windows of her palace, watching the Royal Guard carrying out training exercises on the polo grounds. Footsteps echo off the marble tiles of the hallway, and a handsome, upright man approaches. BARON TETHYAM wears a gray and navy dress uniform, with polished brass buttons on his long coat, and an ornamental saber is sheathed on his hip. He stops five meters from the Duchess and addresses her with a formal bow.]
BT: Your Grace, may I trouble you for a moment of your time?
DR (sighs): Go ahead, Lord Tethyam. What troubles you?
BT: Two Ascendant entered orbit this morning. I think this time the Osirisians want blood.
DR: I am aware of the Ascendants, Tethyam. I am currently awaiting an emissary from their fleet. I assure you I shall not trouble you by requiring you to attend those negotiations [...]

Oh hey what’s this? A patch? This week we spend some time talking about Waypoint, the game, before our heroes have a pleasant chat with Duchess Vera and get to know each other better. Enjoy!
Producer’s note: I recommend listening to the whole episode, but if you’re only interested in the storytelling part of it and care less about the mechanics of the game, skip to minute 27.
