Welcome back to Mama, What’s Next? Today, we’re talking about something quite powerful and transformative: vulnerability. It's a great topic particularly so many of us wear masks all the time. We learnt to do that quite early on in our lives, some more, some less. Now, today let's talk about being real.

Vulnerability is the bridge that connects us to our children, our loved ones, and, most importantly, ourselves.

    Let's explore -

Why embracing imperfection is key to thriving: Let’s talk about how vulnerability isn’t weakness but a bridge to deeper relationships and a stronger sense of self.Raising resilient children: Teaching kids that it’s okay to be imperfect starts with showing them our own humanity—our fears, mistakes, and doubts.Finding purpose in progress: The story of a mom who reclaimed her passions and found joy again after losing herself in motherhood. The self-care myth: Why focusing on your own growth isn’t selfish but essential. A fulfilled mama is the foundation for a happy, thriving family.Leading by example: Your kids are watching you. When you embrace your true self, they learn to embrace theirs, too.

I also open up about my own journey of personal growth—reconnecting with who I am and letting go of the idea that I have to do it all perfectly. Vulnerability has been my superpower, helping me rediscover my passions and show my child what it means to be real.

This episode is your reminder that it’s okay to focus on YOU.

Tune in and take the next step toward rediscovering yourself, Mama.

    Love, Melie.

  • In todays episode I speak with Executive Career Coach and Personal Branding Expert Daniela Sarmiento from Barcelona who shares with me why personal branding becomes increasingly important in todays world.

Daniela shares her experience in transitioning from working as a recruiter and headhunter to starting her own personal branding and image consulting business. She speaks about helping professionals, particularly those in leadership roles, stand out by improving how they communicate, not just in their CVs but also in person. It's about making sure their personality, leadership, and values shine through in interviews and conversations.

We explore the challenges women face in the workplace, including self-doubt and the need for mentorship. The discussion highlights the necessity of authenticity, negotiation skills, and the impact of executive presence.

We also discuss the importance of building a personal brand, especially for introverts who might find it challenging to stand out. She offers guidance on how women can craft a strong personal image that reflects not only skills but also presence and personality. We touch on networking, self-presentation, and the ongoing process of personal transformation, encouraging people to take control of their professional narrative. Often, people are so used to their roles that they forget to showcase their unique strengths, which is crucial for career growth.

  • Your decisions are only as good as the information you have. As your information changes, so should your decisions.

    New data = new decisions.

At one point in my career I approached an Australian beauty media company to create a joint venture and launch their business in Europe. I partnered with a very close friend. Which made matters even worse when I started to realize that this is not the right path for me. It became my biggest founders f*kk up. Lots of money down the drain and a very close friendship ruined.

So why did I no longer want to do it?

I realized the legal setup was increasingly unideal for me.

I learnt that my friend and I were not suited for the roles we were meant to take on.

I learnt that what I was meant to do going forward in the business did not bring me joy.

So in essence - I learnt A LOT.

    About myself.

    About friendships and work partnerships.

About strengths in work and business.

About fluffy ideas and the reality of founding a company.

I hope you enjoy the conversation.. with myself.

  • A journey of pain to purpose

Imagine battling the heartache of infertility, navigating the complexities of IVF treatments, and lastly trusting someone else to carry your hopes for a family.

Now imagine losing it all. Twice.

This episode takes you deep into the raw, emotional journey of IVF, surrogacy, loss and grief.

Hear how Lia struggled to balance her high-pressure career as an executive with fertility treatments and how she moved through unimaginable heartbreak into hope—and why the conversation around workplace support, surrogacy, and IVF is more urgent than ever.

In todays episode of Mama, what's next? Lia de Feo shares her deeply personal journey through motherhood, fertility challenges, and the heartbreaking loss of her two children. She discusses the importance of self-advocacy in healthcare, and the importance of intuition when it comes to our own bodies. We talk about the complexities of surrogacy, and the emotional rollercoaster of IVF that many women have to go through. Lia talks about the need for support and understanding for those navigating similar paths and shares her mission to help others through their struggles.

Ultimately, she reflects on how her own grief and heartbreaking experiences have moved her to connect even deeper with spirituality and explore what deeper meaning her journey could have. Ultimately asking herself the question: can I make something positive, out of my pain? This then led her to advocate for womens reproductive rights in New York and now she work on a book about her own journey and the history of reproductive rights.

  • In the 2nd part of our interview, I chat with Fady Kassab, a Sydney-based comedian and creative director with roots in Lebanon. Fady was winner of Australia's RAW Comedy in 2019, shares his journey from the creative industry to the comedy scene, offering a unique perspective on life, identity, and personal growth. Fady also has two kids who lived with him full-time until recently, making him a great example of diving into his true self and exploring his unique true career path while raising kids.

In this episode, we dive into the intersection of comedy and people-pleasing, exploring what it truly takes to get on stage and make people laugh — and not everyone will laugh. Fady shares his experience with overcoming the urge to please everyone, the pressure of audience reactions, and how comedy can both terrify and heal. He discusses how stand-up comedy seems like the worst place for someone who seeks constant approval, yet becomes a space for ultimate freedom from people-pleasing tendencies. We touch on the challenges of entering comedy later in life, the importance of authenticity, and the unexpected lessons learned from failure, family, and sobriety. Join us as we unpack how comedy can be both an art of connection and a path of self-discovery. Whether you're a performer or just navigating life's stages, this episode will make you laugh, reflect, and embrace your own journey.

  • In this awesome episode, I chat with Fady Kassab, a Sydney-based comedian and creative director with roots in Lebanon. Fady was winner of Australia's RAW Comedy in 2019, shares his journey from the creative industry to the comedy scene, offering a unique perspective on life, identity, and personal growth. Career Change From Creative Director to Comedian: Fady’s transition from a successful career in creative direction to pursuing comedy full-time, exploring how his experiences shaped his comedic style and outlook on life.

Navigating Personal Identity: A section on how life events like the loss of a parent and a divorce led Fady to reevaluate his identity, moving beyond the labels society places on us and embracing the present moment.

Ego vs. Intuition: Fady discusses the battle between ego and intuition, emphasizing the importance of quieting the mind to listen to one's inner voice. He highlights how intuition is often drowned out by the noisy voice of the ego, which is rooted in past achievements or future anxieties.

The Power of Now: Drawing inspiration from spiritual teachings, particularly Eckhart Tolle’s "The Power of Now," Fady talks about the importance of living in the present moment and how it can lead to a more peaceful and fulfilling life.

Letting Go of the Ego: Insights into how detaching from the ego’s need for validation through success or material achievements can lead to true inner peace. Fady shares personal anecdotes and advice on how to practice this detachment.

Health and Well-being: A discussion on the importance of treating the body with love, rather than through a lens of societal expectations or self-criticism. Fady touches on how his approach to food, exercise, and mental health has evolved over the years.

Spiritual Growth and Mindfulness: Fady introduces listeners to spiritual teacher Muji and the concept of living without being trapped by thoughts or emotions. He explains how mindfulness and meditation have played a crucial role in his personal development.

  • In todays episode, I share my personal journey through a challenging week. I've come to realize that despite the difficulties and the feeling of being stuck or obligated to live for others, we actually have the power to choose our own paths and make changes in our lives.

Even when it feels like we have no options, we always have some form of choice. Our bodies often push us to listen when we ignore our inner voice, manifesting through pain or discomfort. I emphasize the importance of connecting with our true selves, embracing our authentic journey, and allowing ourselves to evolve.

Life is hard, and it's easy to get caught up in roles and personas that no longer serve us. But it's never too late to rediscover what makes us feel alive and to step into our true selves. I encourage you to take this moment to embrace who you are becoming, and to give yourself grace and compassion. Remember, tomorrow is a new day with the potential for change.
