Welcome to this the first episode in a new series documenting the crimes of individuals who have been residents of Wakefield Prison, otherwise known as monster mansion, due to its reputation for housing some of Britain’s most brutal, and notorious criminals. Join me for this instalment, in which I explore the history of the prison, what life behind its walls was like, and delve into the crimes of some of its long forgotten inmates.

9 year old Alice Barnes went to herd cows in the middle of the day, walking the same route she had traversed many times before, and encountering multiple people along the way. Nothing about that scenario speaks of the danger she was soon to encounter, join me as I discuss the brazen nature of a crime which shocked the town of Blackburn.

In this episode I delve into 2 murders in Liverpool which occured a year apart, while the murder of 12 year old Lesley Hobbs would be solved, the case of 27 year old Maureen Dutton is still unanswered.
Thank you to Erica for suggesting this case.

In this episode I will take you back to the 1970’s and the murder of a devoted mother and wife, committed in broad daylight as she undertook her 8 minute walk to work. it would take 23 years to bring her killer to justice. In that time speculation regarding who had committed the crime would spread, was it her husband, or maybe a local sex offender? Or had she been a victim of Peter Sutcliffe, AKA the Yorkshire Ripper? Join me as I delve into the case of Mary Gregson.

Styllou Christofi was the penultimate woman to hang in England, although she received little media interest, despite the fact that her crime was arguable more brutal, and sensational than that committed by Ruth Ellis the final woman to go to the noose, six months later. After the death of his wife, Ethel, John Chrsite claimed that “after she had gone, the way was clear for me to fulfil my destiny.”
in the proceeding weeks Christie would go on to commit three murders, but before they were his victims they were Rita Nelson, Kathleen Maloney and Hectorina Mclennan each had her own story which I explore in this episode.

At the conclusion of Timothy Evans' trial, his mother confronted John Christie, branding him a murderer to which his wife Ethel responded “Don’t you dare call my husband a murderer, he’s a good man.”
I wonder how much Ethel truly believed these words as she spoke them, whether deep down she had a gnawing suspicion that something was wrong, that just yards from her bedroom window lay the bodies of two women, and that within 3 years of Evans’ trial she too would die at her husbands hand.
Join me I as I explore the life of Ethel Christie.

At the time of his execution few had sympathy for Timothy Evans’ plight, after all he had been charged with the murders of his pregnant wife and 13 month old daughter. Add to this reports that he had been verbally and physically abusive to his wife throughout their marriage, on the surface he appeared to be the type of person the death penalty had been designed for, in that it removed a violent and dangerous individual who posed a threat to the public. However three years after his execution, new revelations would call into question whether he should have gone to the noose.
Join me as I delve into the story of Timothy Evans, and the murders of his wife Beryl and daughterGeraldine.
