  • Welcome to episode 12 of Pro Wrestling Spotlight Rewind - where we look back at classic shows from the archives of John Arezzi, going back to the very early days of pro wrestling talk on the radio. On this episode - we will review show #12 show which aired on 1440 WNYG in Babylon, NY on June 25th, 1989.
Marsh and I review the show that featured many interviews from NWA stars including Teddy Long with Norman the Lunatic, Paul E. Dangerously and Jim Cornette in a hilarious backstage encounter, and more. We also discuss the first bus trip to the NWA show in New Haven Connecticut and play bus banter with Bruce Jacobs, the listeners and even John's sister!
On a serious note - with the recent lawsuit filed against Vince and Linda McMahon, the WWE and TKO by 5 ring boys this past week - John for the first time goes back in time to give his history with Mel Phillips, who he first met in June, 1974.

  • Here is a historic original broadcast of the Pro Wrestling Spotlight, which aired on July 21st, 1991 on 1240 AM - WGBB.  On this explosive show, I cover the Vince McMahon press conference held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on July 16th, 1991 to discuss his steroid use and plans to implement a steroid testing policy for the WWF. It's the event I had to use an assumed name to access, and I confront McMahon and PR rep Steve Planamenta. Alex Marvez from the Miami Herald joins us as well!

Paul E. Dangerously and Kevin Sullivan are also interview guests on that show.
Mitch is the special guest on this show, and joins Marsh and John, telling his stories about that time, his life in wrestling with AFA and SIKA, Ted Petty, and shares his memories of Kevin Sullivan.

  • Welcome to episode 4 of Pro Wrestling Spotlight Rewind - where we look back at classic shows from the archives of John Arezzi, going back to the very early days of pro wrestling talk on the radio. On this episode - we will review show #4 show which aired on 1440 WNYG in Babylon, NY on April 30th, 1989.
The 4th show on WNYG in 1989 features the very first on air appearances by both Gary Michael Cappetta (who is the in studio guest) and Al "Broadway Sonny Blaze" Schaefer, who later became co-host of the show. Both Gary and Al review the show with us.
NOTE: As was the case in the history of PWS - technical difficulties play a part in some parts of the show from 35 years ago, and it is the case for parts of this episode of PWS Review. Gary had a very bad internet connection - and for some reason didn't hear or respond to many of the questions in the conversation. Marsh did the best he could editing it - but Gary leaves abruptly and we go right into the segment with Broadway Sonny Blaze
This episode also includes the first appearances by Larry Zbyszko and Johnny Valiant, in addition to the first commercials from L&S Comix. David from the Power Twins is in the studio and John and David celebrate their victory that took place in Amityville High School the previous Friday in John's "managerial debut".
And a suprise appearance by Sol Horenstein at the end of the show
Lots to digest here on this show
There are classic phone calls & commercials as well!

  • Welcome to episode 3 of Pro Wrestling Spotlight Rewind - where we look back at classic shows from the archives of John Arezzi, going back to the very early days of pro wrestling talk on the radio. On this episode - we will review show #3 show which aired on 1440 WNYG in Babylon, NY on April 23rd, 1989.
The 3rd show on WNYG in 1989 featured part two of the Bruno Sammartino interview, which had to be re-recorded as his first version was considered too inflammatory towards Vince McMahon and the WWF. Marsh and I discuss it in length and tall about the uncensored interview which is available for Patrons. It is attached here - and I reposted it as well. You can also search for it in the search bar. This episode also features the first call in by Paul E. Dangerously! We discuss his ongoing feud with Jim Cornette. Plus - in studio The Power Twins, promoter Mark Tender and the still unknown "Cobra"! Hilarity in the studio. Plus a racy commercial with John, Bruce Jacobs and John's sister "Angela".
There are classic phone calls & commercials as well!

On this episode - we will review show #2 show which aired on 1440 WNYG in Babylon, NY on April 16th, 1989.
April 16th 1989 featured part one of the first appearance of Bruno Sammartino on WNYG. It also was highlighted by the very first appearance by the "world famous" POWER TWINS - the identical twins that caused havoc on the show each time they appeared. Marsh and I welcome to this episode David of the twin tandem, once with John Arezzi making his pitch to manage them on an upcoming Mark Tender Indy show in Amityville NY. We start off the show with Dave Meltzer, who's appearance was cut short in the debut show. This is the first available recording of Meltzer on the show. Arezzi also interviews Michael "PS" Hayes.
There are classic phone calls & commercials.

Plus a listen back to the controversy of the WWF's Gulf War angle with Iraqi sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter. • Here is episode 108 of the Pro Wrestling Spotlight Podcast - covering what was the final show of its almost 5 year run.  The show was broadcast on 1240 WGBB AM, in West Babylon NY. It was show 263 of the Pro Wrestling Spotlight series which aired on January 22, 1995
Marsh and I review this "finale" which featured (fittingly so) Cactus Jack, as our last guest!
We announce plans to carry on with the all NEW podcast - THE PRO WRESTLING SPOTLIGHT - REWIND, which will kick off in time for the 35th Anniversary which was April, 1989.  We will have 2 specials before we go back to 1989. The first of which will be a show reviewing the ORIGIN of PWS, broadcast between 1975-77 during my years at Grahm Jr. College.  We will then have a 2nd special, reviewing the 1 show I did in the fall of 1985 with George Napolitano at WNYG (we were cancelled after one episode!). Then its back to 35 years ago, covering the April 1989 Pro Wrestling Broadcasts, then May 1989 and each month thereafter.

  • Here is episode 107 of John Arezzi's Pro Wrestling Spotlight Podcast, reviewing the original broadcasts of show 262, which aired on 1240 AM WGBB in West Babylon, NY on January 8th, 1995.
Marsh and I bring on 2 guests for the podcast on this episode, which is probably the most explosive show we've done since beginning it 107 episodes ago. I comment on the recent Vince McMahon lawsuit and horrific scandal - and it's repercussions, and the history of my coverage of McMahon.
On the guest front - a reunion between me and Mike Memphis after 30 years is a highlight for me.  I've know Mike since 1972, when he became a member of the Fred Blassie Fan Club.
Mike went on to become a widely known Elvis Presley impersonator, and we discuss our history and review a call he had with Paul E. Dangerously on WEVD.
Our 2nd guest is wrestling historian Evan Ginzburg, who reviews his interview with Marsh and I with Eddie Guerrero, following the death of Art Barr.

  • Here is episode 106 of John Arezzi's Pro Wrestling Spotlight Podcast, reviewing the original broadcasts of shows 260 and 261 which aired on 1240 AM WGBB in West Babylon, NY on December 11th and 18th 1994.
Two shows are reviewed by John and Marsh, as show 261 was only 25 minutes in length so we added that show to discuss on this podcast.  John was doing a live "remote" from the Nassau Coliseum at the time which led to the shortened broadcast.
On the December 11th show, John welcomes special guest co-hosts from ECW, Tommy Dreamer and Mikey Whipwreck! Dave Meltzer also calls in from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Callers include a surprise return of Joey from North Babylon.
On the December 18th show, John is with Cactus Jack at an autograph show at the Nassau Coliseum.  John and Marsh also review the taped interview with ECW Founder Tod Gordon, who announces that NY fans will now get to see ECW on the Madison Square Garden Network.
