The Kentucky Houndsmen Association has been around since 1987, with a mission to protect the right of Kentucky houndsmen and women to free cast dogs. While protecting our rights and heritage they have also assisted in lifting the ban on .22 cal rifles, fought to keep a running season for raccoons, assisted in conceal carry laws, and do a ton to support youth and local hunting clubs. Owen has been raising, training and hunting River Run bred feist for 30 years and is a beneficial source on hunting squirrel with feist dogs.

Jamie McCarson and is 3 year old Treeing Feist named McCarson's Smokin Sage spend a lot of time in the squirrel woods! Jamie hunts multiple registries and is a good competitor when out on a cast. This week we talk to Jamie about his recent win at the 2024 Treeing Feist Days hunt in Hardin, KY. Jamie and Sage's 2024 win makes them a back to back winner and defending champ of the United Treeing Feist Association's Treeing Feist Days Hunt.

Chad has had 3 "once in a lifetime" dogs that have led him to World Championships, Dog of the Year, King of the Hunt and more. Mr. Bates has been around tree dogs for decades and spreads some knowledge and teaches from experience.

We are joined by Ayden Mitchell this week. Ayden was the youngest handler in the sport to have won the KY State Hunt but he didn't stop there. Ayden has also placed 4th in the PKC Youth Nationals, 6th at Walker Days, Reserve in AKC Youth World Hunt, he has won the KY State Adult Hunt, and has won Mountain Feist Days all before he has his drivers permit! In this episode we learn a little about Ayden's successes as well as discuss youth involvement in the sport.
