WTF might just be the best way to collectively describe what’s happening currently. As we head into the long holiday weekend we’re reminded of how much that simple phrase can define things. Whether it be Lewis attempting to make sense of what his favorite sports teams are doing. Perhaps it can describe anything that RFK did in the last 10 days. Or maybe it can be attributed to the Boss’ trip to the Middle East or his “big beautiful bill”. The reality is you can apply a simple WTF to almost anything, go ahead say it out loud, it can be cathartic.

This past weekend we celebrated our Mothers. While they are the most important people in the world to most, to Catholics around the world the selection of a new Pope also ranks up there in importance. White smoke was seen at The Vatican and we have ourselves a new pontiff and this one
came with a curveball too as he’s from right here in America. That’s right, Bob from Chicago is the new Pope. A statement we’re bound to get a lot of mileage from.

Lewis has returned from some shows performed at his Alma Mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Was it a fun visit for nostalgia trip? Or, as he put it, might’ve been an acid flashback. But while Lewis had all the intentions about talking about performing at his college longer, the news of the day needed to be addressed and boy is there a lot – from The Boss’s declaration for everyone to have to tighten their doll and pencil budgets, how AI might be picking a new Pope, or a “necessary” military parade? It has us all harkening back to simpler times, perhaps when we were in college and just having a great time without much a care in the world.

Like many Lewis has something to look forward to this week because baseball is back and he has a full season of watching the Baltimore Orioles to distract him from the madness of life. Which, as the title of this week's Rantcast, seem to be coming at us at the pace of at least once daily. From Signalgate to the FDA. Are things getting too woke for you? Then ban all the words! Graduate students are disappearing from our streets and a New Jersey lady needs her emotional support chickens. But hey! At least we now know that when things get dicey you can now order armed protection as easy as you can hail a rideshare.

This week Lewis has so much to cover that it’s a 2-parter! Our current state of affairs has us all having the collective experience of living what one person’s idea of reality is. Whether it be terrible cabinet picks or the mess that mass layoffs are causing, there just doesn't seem to be enough oxygen (or air) in the room, because we only get to breathe the King's oxygen.. Things are getting crazy out there and not just our current political climate. Lewis was reminded
of that this week when the fairly simple task of getting a new computer was met with the corporate machinations of not 1 but 2 different organizations pissing him off. The frustration grew when Uber Eats got involved, yes you read that correctly Uber Eats. It’s a wild tale of one man trying is best to not lose his mind as he navigates the ins and outs of companies wanting to help, but for some reason just can’t seem to utilize logic at every turn.

Lewis has always liked the title of the play Idiot’s Delight and it certainly seems to be describing the times that we are currently in. As the world spent a collective moment watching The Super Bowl this weekend, Lewis has a message for the NFL and its almighty self-importance. Big game aside, each passing day seems to sound a red alert in our nation’s capital and though he might be able to give our Leader credit for one thing, that good will is dashed almost immediately with bad cabinet choices, dismantling of agencies, and the proposal to put his face on Mt. Rushmore? While the GOP get’s its fair share of “Fuck You’s” this week, Lewis has some for the Dems as well. All in a week’s work. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that one of our longer rants of the week are about bidets and the need to keep your ass clean.

Chaos, it seems to be all around us these days and its pretty much the last thing Lewis wants to talk about though he feel compelled to. Chaos is the feature of this administration and our Leader it at its center. From unfathomable Executive Orders to cabinet members without any sort of qualifications for the job they’re being nominated for. And just when you think it could not get much worse, we get unspeakable tragedies like the DC plane crash and totally botched response. Many might find it funny, but the joke is on us as a new president begins his term. The punchlines seem to write themselves even before Lewis can make the joke. Bad executive orders are a joke, the cabinet is a joke, renaming the Gulf of Mexico, buying Greenland? The punchlines write themselves! Essentially we’ve lost the laughter and have stopped laughing. As a comedian or not, its probably a bad thing.

As Lewis records his first Rantcast episode of 2025 on January 6th, he’s reminded of where we were 4 years ago on this day. Over the years the US has seen its fair share of political unrest, so comparisons become quite inevitable. Right now it seems like people are at odds because the reality of what even occurred that day continues to to be in question. That “reality” alone might just be the lasting impression of what happened back in 2020. And the problems still
persist as we grapple with continued homegrown terrorism with the most recent attacks that occurred in New Orleans and in Las Vegas.
The unfortunate end to everything that’s happened to us since Columbine is the evidentiality that we are just filling the calendar with all the traumas we’ve experienced as a society. Just celebrations of all the pain broken down by the days of the year.
