  • The act of noting can help us navigate stress and anxiety better. By labeling and acknowledging these feelings, instead of suppressing or ignoring them, we can create a mindset to process them more even-handedly, reducing their impact over time.

  • If you are experiencing strong, difficult emotions due to the upcoming election; you are not alone. This may make daily life isolating; you are not alone. All of this is draining, depleting; but you are not alone.

All things are impermanent, even political situations that are out of our control. With acceptance of suffering, we can actually focus on what’s important. In contrast when we reject suffering, run away from suffering, we shelter ourselves in ignorance . . . no growth. So let’s build hope.

  • How does anxiety show up for you the most? Do you feel nervous or on edge? Do you have trouble relaxing or being really restless that it's hard to sit still? Maybe you feel afraid as if something awful will happen, worrying too much about different things, or not being able to control worrying? Or does it show up in things like binge watching Netflix or being addicted to your phone? Maybe it’s a combination . . or all of the above.

When meditating, the part of your brain that gets activated by fear quiets down.

  • Feeling not good enough about yourself may come from childhood wounds where we learn patterns and perspectives from our upbringing. The first part of my mindful practice is recognizing that your thoughts and beliefs are only thoughts. Even though they may be based on life experiences, you can choose and change the perspective of them anytime. These self-doubts hold a lot less weight when you realize that they are just thoughts in your mind. The second part of my mindful practice is recognizing that self-love is the key to feeling that you are enough.

  • This meditation is about being in the flow - where you can lose all sense of self, all sense of environment. Not zoning out - but zoning in. Being so focused that time isn’t there. Flow cannot be forced. Unfortunately, the more we work not to be anxious or to get the feeling of flow, the more likely we are to get in our own way. We trip ourselves up and prevent ourselves from the state of flow. We can however unwind from contraction that comes from being caught up in feeling guilty, stressed, anxious. And as that contraction unwinds, especially with the help of being mindful, we naturally expand, moving more in the direction of joy, more towards flow.

The basic way to practice this is to either lie or sit down, focus on your breath, then scan sensations from the top of your head to the bottom of your head without judging.

  • Sometimes in a summer storm, the rain and wind take over in a matter of seconds. Knowing the storm cannot harm you if you know that it will simply pass you by. And just like the feelings about the storm, being aware that you are feeling stressed and anxious and getting curious about the feelings, takes power away from getting sucked in deeper. With the storm, we know that it will pass. The same is true with our feelings.

Follow me on this #meditation journey through a storm so that you can find #clarity, calm #fear, loosen the hold of #stress and #anxiety.
