Itâs been a year since our first episode on the new generation of weight loss drugs and we thought it was time for an update. According to some estimates, 10% of Americans are taking or have taken a GLP-1 agonist drug like Ozmpic or Mounjaro and the amount of research on them has skyrocketed. Join us for a review of what they are, how they work, benefits and side effects and what you should know as a movement professional.

Last week we discussed the adductors, so today we want to talk about their partner in hip stability, balance and support, the abductors. These two partners in crime can make a big difference in hip, knee or low back pain because many clients have never trained them. Weâll discuss their essential role in functional hip stability and balance and then walk you through simple progressions and principles to keep your clients moving at their best.

Many people with low back pain limit their movement in various ways to decrease pain and the likelihood of reinjury. We have spent several episodes on training neutral spine, understanding dynamic lumbopelvic control and enhancing client awareness. All of these are foundational skills to minimize pain and help the client make progress. Once these skills are mastered, it is essential to keep progressing toward a full return to activity. Increasing range of motion, increasing load, improving postural endurance, mastering rotation and integrating the lower back into the rest of the body are key. Weâll discuss principles and practical exercises for gradually getting back into action!

With low back pain the first step is to create awareness of where the low back is and what position is most comfortable. The next step is to teach stability in the preferred position to support a pain free (or less painful) position in everyday life. Once stability and awareness are in place, assessing and training mobility of the spine, pelvis and hips is essential to integrate the low back into functional movement. In this episode, Brian and Nora discuss mobility strategies and exercises for low back pain.

The Sacroiliac Joint! The sacroiliac or SI joint is literally central to our bodies ability to move with ease. It is where force is transferred from the legs through the pelvis to the spine. When the SI joints are not balanced in terms of stability and mobility, it affects and is affected by the myofascial system above it in the core and torso and below it in the hips and lower limb. This introduction discusses the challenges we face as movement educators in balancing and aligning the SI joint.
