Napoleon finally hoists anchor from Toulon and heads for his first target, the impregnable island of Malta. There, concessions are made and a holy order, centuries old, is brought to its knees. Napoleon reorganizes Malta and finally sets sale for Alexandria, barely missing the intrepid Lord Horatio Nelson.

As we return back to Napoleon, we learn of his efforts to build a force to invade ancient Egypt. We also discuss history of the Ottoman Empire and the friendship they shared with the French. Details of the Scientific Commission are discussed as well as the governing body of Egypt at the time of the invasion.

We take a step back in time to see how the Directory was formed and discuss its political structure. The chaotic fall of Robespierre is covered as well as the structure of Napoleon's Cisapline Republic. Lastly Napoleon lends his hand to one last coup on 18 Fructidor to save the Directory and consolidate their power.

Napoleon's first Italian Campaign finally comes to an end. Vienna signs the Treaty of Campo Formio and the entire campaign is analyzed as a whole.
