Hi friends! I know I have been mentioning this interview for a while now, and we were finally able to make it happen! My very special guest today is Dr. Laurie Mintz, Ph.D. Dr. Laurie is a college professor at the University of Florida who teaches the psychology of human sexuality and has over twenty years of experience working with private clients on general and sexual issues. She has also published more than fifty research studies, has written two books (Becoming Cliterate, and A Tired Woman's Guide to Passionate Sex), is a speaker (including a fabulous TedTalk which is linked below), and even writes a popular blog on Psychology Today. She is also a Taurus!
I have read her book Becoming Cliterate numerous times now, so narrowing down what questions I wanted to ask and share with you was pretty difficult, but I know you are going to take so many great things away from our conversation today!
If you want to find out more about Dr. Laurie Mintz, you can check out the links below:

hi. I missed you, a lot. I hope you're doing ok out there, and wish you a belated 2023. Shit is tough, but I am glad you exist, and please know that you are not alone. I'd like to mention that no one will ever have the experiences you do, but there are people (myself included) who want to support you and metaphorically hold your hand through this very short (even though at times it feels like forever) existence we have here on planet Earth.

So, just going along with this ADHD series, were here today to talk about stimming: self stimulation. I had no idea this was a thing until..well..Tiktok? Then I looked it up, and all the things I have been doing over the years that were labeled "quirky" made sense. So, we just have a somewhat short lil baby episode where I talk about some of those today! Let's go on ahead and hop on to it.
ALSO: There is a new HOTLINE!
GO TO THERE! You can record as many times as you want, so there's no pressure. I'd love to hear from you.

Ahhh...I just know that this is your favorite kind of episode. The episodes where I ramble. Honestly, they are some of my favorite episodes too, even if I do feel a vulnerability hangover afterwards. #worthit. So, let's go on ahead and hop on to it.

WOOP. This is the last installment, and I hope that you've been enjoying the ride. Today we are going to talk about the difference between protective force and punitive force, the cost of punishment, liberating ourselves and counseling others, and expressing appreciation (oof thats a hard one). I'd love to hear how this resonates with you? What areas do you want to practice NVC in your life?
I know things are tough right now, and things feel heavy. I am sending my love to you <3

So, now that we have covered what nonviolent communication is, and the first step of the process (observe), we are going to delve into feelings: identifying them and expressing them (including anger), while at the same time, taking responsibility for our feelings. So, let's get our metaphorical hands dirty, and hop onto it.

Ok ok ok. I have been putting this off long enough. Here is am to talk about something difficult BUT TRANSFORMATIVE when it comes to having real connection with others and with ourselves so that we can have more satisfying, heart centered, compassionate, empathetic, authentic relationships. This is going to be a unknown number of episodes series, mostly because I havent figured out the details of each episode except for this one. STAY TUNED FOR MORE.
If you want to learn more, please check out Marshall Rosenberg's book Nonviolent Communication as well as his workbook that goes along with it. He also has a game that allows us to work on this in group settings called GROK Your World, If that piques your interest.

Love you, dearly, and hope you are well.

Welcome back friends. This is just me, essentially ranting about all the things going on in my life. Hopefully you take something away from it. If not, maybe it would just be nice to hear me talk like a friend to you. Either way, I love you and I hope you are well. You are not alone! Don't forget that.
Love,
Your best friend, Hannah
