  • In this podcast interview, JoAnne Pavin dives deep into J India's transformative journey through the challenges of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), mold toxicity, and emotional trauma.

🎙️ Introduction to Jay India and IBD

J India, the host of the #1 IBD podcast on Apple and Spotify, shares how her symptoms began in 2016, leading to a diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis (UC) through a colonoscopy. Despite worsening symptoms and conventional medical advice, J opted for a holistic, integrative approach to healing, which eventually led her to identify mold toxicity as a root cause.

🏥 Medical Approach and Alternative Healing

Rejecting the standard pharmaceutical path, J embraced a mind-body-soul approach. She spotlighted the importance of addressing the underlying causes of her symptoms and discovered the role of Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) and mold toxicity in her condition.

🧬 Genetic Factors and Root Causes

We discuss the HLA gene, present in 25-40% of the population, which played a critical role in J’s susceptibility to mold toxicity. The conversation emphasizes the necessity of individualized treatment and the Shoemaker protocol's efficacy in addressing mold exposure.

    🔬 Testing and Treatment

J highlights essential testing and treatment methods, such as the ERMI test for home mold detection, the VCS vision test for mold exposure, and the use of Cholestyramine for detoxification. SHe underscores the importance of professional guidance in detoxification to avoid potential pitfalls.

    🧠 Emotional Trauma and Healing

The discussion turns to the profound impact of emotional trauma, particularly childhood sexual abuse, on J’s health. Recognizing emotional trauma as a co-factor with mold toxicity, J stresses the ongoing, holistic process of healing and the need for professional support.

    🍽️ Diet and Lifestyle Changes

J shares her current diet, which includes a wider variety of foods while maintaining an anti-inflammatory focus. She talks about the benefits of water fasting and the philosophy of "progress over perfection" in her healing journey.

After a global career as a petroleum engineer, Angela returned to Canada to raise her children and seek personal growth. Angela explains how she went on a search to “inner engineer” herself. Now she teaches the inner engineering course for logical-minded individuals, emphasizing the importance of emotions and "Relaxed Productivity," integrating logical thinking with emotions.

We also delve into Angela's publishing, her writing, and her upcoming book titled "Using Number Two To Get To Number One," where she draws life lessons from digestion analogies. Everybody eats, sleeps, and of course, eliminates. She reflects on her childhood and shares with humor how her experience with her mother influenced her affinity towards digestion and “# 2”.

Angela advises women engineers to be true to themselves and not conform to the stereotype of being emotionless. She suggests finding a mentor and a community of like-minded individuals for support and accountability for women entrepreneurs. For working mothers, she advises prioritizing enduring joy over societal productivity pressures.

  • JoAnne Pavin welcomes Nicole Sallak Anderson, a novelist and author of "Wildfire: Losing Everything, Gaining the World" to the podcast where they discuss the book’s importance in light of the recent Maui fires and during the age of natural disasters. Nicole reflects on her experience during the 2020 wildfires and expresses gratitude for having shelter and overcoming the challenges of rebuilding her life over the past three years.

In August of 2020, Nicole and her family lost their home, pets, and all their belongings to the CZU Lightning wildfire in Northern California. Many of her essays since that pivotal event have focused on rebuilding a life from ashes, as well as the environmental and societal impacts of housing in an age of climate disaster. Her memoir, Wildfire: Losing Everything, Gaining the World, shares this journey with readers. Wildfire is a story of rage and despair, guilt and hope in the face of an environmental disaster. It is about the sacrifices it takes to be a steward rather than an owner of this beautiful planet we call home.

In part one of the podcast, Nicole shares a mix of gratitude and longing for what was lost in the CZU Lightning Fire complex of 2020 as well as her excitement for new possibilities. The conversation delves into previous wildfires in California and the specific fire that destroyed Nicole's neighborhood. She emphasizes the importance of listening to intuition and discusses her background in technology before immersing herself in nature. Nicole also shares their experience of dealing with the aftermath of a tragedy and the importance of waiting and creating space for expansion in life.

She emphasizes the importance of connecting with nature, listening to the land or what she refers to as “sessions with the land” during the healing process. In part two of the podcast, Nicole shares her journey of dealing with natural disasters, including the challenges of obtaining permits for tiny homes on wheels and losing personal belongings, including a beloved cat named Sebastian.

In part two, the conversation covers topics such as insurance claims, finding temporary housing, dealing with government paperwork, and navigating the aftermath of a natural disaster. Nicole emphasizes the loss of personal belongings and the importance of forming support groups for those who have experienced similar losses. Coping mechanisms, including attending grief groups or therapy sessions, using weighted blankets, and writing, are discussed. She also shares their current feelings of missing certain aspects of their pre-fire life while focusing on new possibilities, including writing projects and living in a tiny house with bees.

The podcast ends with JoAnne and Nicole expressing their strong connection to a book that explores various emotions and societal issues and hopes to spread its powerful messages.
