  • Today, we chat with Maya Corbic, CPA, who has written a book to help kids understand investing. We talk about why it's so important to start learning about money when you're young, just like learning how to ride a bike or swim. Maya shares some awesome tips on how we can make investing easy to understand, not just for kids but for their parents too. It's like unlocking a secret treasure chest that can help you do amazing things in the future. So, if you've ever wondered about investing or saving money, you're going to love what we've got to share.

    About our guest:
Maya Corbic, a CPA and dedicated mom, combines her vast experience as a CFO, auditor, and tax accountant with her personal journey from a first-generation immigrant from war-torn Bosnia to a successful financial literacy educator. Having arrived in a new country with her family at 15 with nothing but two suitcases and $50, living in government housing and juggling two part-time jobs in high school, Maya's early hardships instilled in her the importance of financial independence. She and her husband overcame $60,000 in debt early in their marriage, achieving debt freedom, including their mortgage, by the time she was 32. As the founder of the Wealthy Kids Investment Club and the popular Instagram account @teach.kids.money, Maya is passionate about simplifying investing and empowering families to grow their wealth. Drawing on nearly two decades of professional experience and her life lessons, she is committed to teaching financial literacy to kids and inspiring hundreds of thousands of parents to raise financially independent children, with the vision to educate every child to become a financially independent adult.

  • We are joined by Jordan Berry, a laundromat business owner with nearly a decade of experience in the industry. Jordan shares his journey from being a pastor to venturing into the laundromat business. He shares his initial challenges with the first laundromat acquisition, including buying a fixer-upper that didn't meet the promised numbers. Jordan also talks about the importance of due diligence when acquiring laundromats, as they often have cash-based income, making valuation and verification critical. And while laundromats can relatively become passive, there are still responsibilities and problem-solving involved. Jordan highlights the flexibility in how laundromats can be run to align with your specific goals, whether it's creating more free time or generating significant income.

    About our guest:
Jordan was a pastor for 15 years and transitioned out of full-time ministry into buying a laundromat. His experience buying his first laundromat was not a good one. Instead of replacing his salary, as he expected, his laundromat lost $2,000 dollars per month for well over a year. Desperate to find help to turn his business around, he frantically searched for someone to guide him to profitability. He found no rescue. After finally stopping the bleeding, he decided to share the hard-earned (and expensive) lessons he learned on a blog. And then on a YouTube channel. And then, on a quest to find out how the best laundromat owners operated their businesses, he started a podcast interviewing laundromat owners and other industry professionals. These platforms turned into Laundromat Resource, an education and community platform for laundromat owners and future laundromat owners to learn, share best practices, and connect with one another.

Join us to find out how Jackie continues to inspire and educate in the world of finance!

F.I.R.E. For Dummies by Jackie Cummings Koski at AmazonCatching Up to FI: Social Security Made Simple | Mike Piper | 054

    About our guest:
Jackie Cummings Koski, hailing from Aiken, South Carolina, grew up in a financially tight family as the second youngest of six children. Despite the financial challenges and a culture where discussing money was taboo, Jackie pursued higher education to improve her prospects and nurture her passion for writing. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from Augusta State University, supporting herself through college by working full-time. After college, Jackie married and had a daughter, Amber. The end of her eleven-year marriage turned her into a single mother, intensifying her focus on personal finance. Jackie excelled in managing her finances, providing a middle-class lifestyle for herself and her daughter—a stark contrast to her own upbringing.

Her growing interest in finance led her to join and later preside over the Cincinnati Model Investment Club and serve on the BetterInvesting Regional Board of Directors. Jackie's commitment to financial literacy motivated her to educate others, especially since many, like her, were not taught about money in any formal way. Her book, "Money Letters 2 My Daughter," encapsulates this mission, offering straightforward financial advice through personal letters that discuss crucial financial concepts and practices.

  • Worried about paying for college for your kids? Imagine if they not only had school fully paid for but graduated with a nest egg already in place.

Chris shares how his Debt Free Degree Triangle makes this possible.

    About our guest:
Chris Corinthian has worked for over 15 years in higher education in the areas of financial aid and financial literacy. After working with thousands of students, he realized that there were specific steps that students did to receive multiple scholarships and graduate debt-free.

Unfortunately, there were also students who did not know this information and dropped out of school because they did not have enough money to complete college. Chris is on a mission to stop the national student loan debt from rising by showing students the blueprint to not only graduate debt-free but also show them how they can have money in the bank when they walk across that stage at graduation.

Through teaching the principles of financial literacy, he walks high school students and current college students through a three-step framework on how to “find the money, budget the money, and grow the money” to pay for school.

I'm excited to have Lauryn Williams from Student Loan Planner here to talk about a huge opportunity—the IDR waiver and how it can dramatically reduce your student loans. We're breaking down everything you need to know about loan forgiveness and repayment plans that could save you thousands of dollars. Time is running out to take advantage of these changes, so tune in right away to make sure you don’t lose out.

    ---

EXTENDED IDR WAIVER DEADLINE: June 30, 2024

Our friends over at Student Loan Planner are the experts in all things student loans and they wanted us to share with you about the extended IDR waiver deadline which is now June 30, 2024.

Millions of borrowers could see their entire balances wiped away completely, including you.

The income-driven repayment (IDR) waiver is a one-time account adjustment that was implemented by the Biden Administration and it is a BIG DEAL!

Any time you've spent in repayment and many periods of forbearance or deferment can now be counted toward the 10-year Public Service Loan Forgiveness and 20- or 25-year IDR forgiveness programs.

To qualify, many borrowers may need to consolidate their loans by the Administration's NEW deadline June 30, 2024.
