  • Happy Pfriday, Pfeiffer Pfans! THE AGE OF INNOCENCE is over and it's time for us to make our FRENCH EXIT until that ONE FINE DAY when BATMAN RETURNS (well...Ant-Man). We're getting UP CLOSE & PERSONAL on our PFEIFFER PFINALE, which is pfilled with our takeaways from completing the entire pfilmography of the one-and-only Michelle Pfeiffer. We're answering insightful audience questions, unveiling our Top 20 (and bottom 5) Pfeiffer performances, and playing a pfew last rounds of Six Degrees of Michelle Pfeiffer. Thank you to our pfabulous guests and wonderful listeners for going on this journey with us. We can't wait to see another Pfriday. Meow.

  • This Pfriday brings the startling realization that our plan was to die before the movies ran out, but here we are to discuss La Pfeiffer's most recent release, FRENCH EXIT, pfeaturing Michelle's transcendent performance as Frances Price. This tragic pfarce gives us everything: MIchelle doing something entirely new in a lead role worthy of her talents, possessed cats, 2020's uber-twink Lucas Hedges, frozen dildos, and Valerie Mahaffey giving a zanily wonderful supporting actress turn. We also talk about the movie's release dates, from festival to theatrical, and the stacked leading actress races on the 2020 awards circuit.

  • This Pfriday, we're clicking our heels three times and saying there's no place like Montauk as we discuss THE WIZARD OF LIES, Michelle's return to television movies after over 30 years. Playing Ruth Madoff, and reteaming with Robert De Niro as the infamous Bernie, La Pfeiffer gives a strong performance as a wife in freefall. In a crowded awards race for stellar female performances, Michelle earned her first Emmy nomination and returned to the Golden Globes for her seventh career nom (and first for a television performance). Other topics for discussion are additional acting MVP Alessandro Nivola as one of Madoff's sons, and the real-life scandal to dramatized adaptation pipeline.

  • This Pfriday, we take a brief detour from La Pfeiffer's pfeature pfilms to delve into her work on television, where her acting career began. The first entry in this two-episode miniseries is THE CHILDREN NOBODY WANTED, Michelle's final TV movie before her breakout role in Grease 2. Based on the true story of The Butterfield Ranch, Michelle is given what is considered her first leading role, but is once again playing the supportive girlfriend. We're also talking about how the medium of television films have changed since the 80s, the perils of typecasting, plus the natural talent Michelle continued to show in these early roles.

  • It's Pfriday and the special of the day is FRANKIE AND JOHNNY, a delicious slice of 90s romance pfeaturing the Scarface reunion of Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino. Joining us at our diner booth today is the pfabulous Francesca Brown, who's here to chat with us about our many takeaways from this pfilm: love at first sight and workplace romances, seeing ourselves in certain characters, loneliness, the fun of teaching Kate Nelligan palindromes ("Puppy!"), and the beautiful marriage between Michelle's layered performance and Terrence McNally's dialogue. Order up!

  • This Pfriday, a vampire, a witch, and two Oscar-nominated actresses walk into a dilapidated manor. Cue the werewolf! Welcome to Collinwood as we rise from our coffins to tackle DARK SHADOWS, the Michelle Pfeiffer/Tim Burton reunion that failed to reach the critical, commercial or cultural highs of their previous collaboration. We discuss Michelle's heightened performance and hilarious facial expressions (and revisit the age-old adage: do not underuse La Pfeiffer), the trajectories of Burton and Depp post-Sweeney Todd, the pitfalls of reboots, and the gothic perfection of Eva Green.

  • This Pfriday takes us back to Shakespeare, as we harvest all we can from A THOUSAND ACRES, the Michelle Pfeiffer/Jessica Lange-led retelling of King Lear. A passion project for both actresses, this dark drama had a long, winding road from Pulitzer Prize-winning novel to a finished film neither particularly loved. We track this movie from start to finish, including Lange's Golden Globe nom and the outstanding landscape for awards in 1997, but the main focus is the joy of watching two titanic (see what we did there?) actresses act so beautifully opposite one another.

  • Happy Pfriday! Did you know there's a Pfeiffer pfilm that pfeatures Tracey Ullman as Mother Nature, the technical feature film debut of Saoirse Ronan, a manic pixie dream boy Paul Rudd, and Michelle being pforty and pfabulous? Well, now you do! Buckle up for the tale of I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN, a romantic comedy that has all the right pieces to succeed (Amy Heckerling? Michelle Pfeiffer? Paul Rudd?), but ended up in a torturous release limbo that led it straight-to-DVD. Fortunately for us, it has many wonderful discoveries, chief among them Michelle's dazzling comedic skills on full display and another wonderful mother-daughter relationship anchoring the antics.

  • Come pfly with us on this Pfeiffer Pfriday, as we revel in the synth-infused goodness of La Pfeiffer's entry in the 80s pfantasy canon: the delightful pfable LADYHAWKE, where Michelle plays a lady...who is also a hawk. This transformative episode has many chapters: Michelle's non-Disney, non-damsel take on this pfilm's lady fair, the peak fuckability of Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller's Medieval Day Off, anybody?), the next chapter of the Michael/Jerry-verse AKA What Animal Do We Transform Into?, and how LADYHAWKE fits into the beloved genre of 1980s fairy tales and fantasies.

  • This Pfriday, we add another entry to the "This is a Pfeiffer Pfilm?" canon as we talk about the all-but-forgotten family drama PEOPLE LIKE US, the small film that fell through the cracks due to a busy 2012 release weekend opposite Ted and Magic Mike. Featuring two excellent lead performances from Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks, La Pfeiffer is a touching standout in a role that begins a new chapter in the Michelle Mom-iverse: having an adult child. We also jump into the casting rumors of this film (with special mention to agent of chaos, Annette Bening) and the tumultuous ride of the 4th and 5th slots of the Supporting Actress Oscar Race for 2012.

  • This Pfriday kicks off our final 10 Pfeiffer pfilms and we can feel a certain change coming over us. Perhaps it's that full moon? The pfascinating Frank Calvillo joins us to howl about WOLF, the supernatural thriller that has Jack Nicholson marking his territory, James Spader amping his sleaze up to the nth degree, and Michelle delivering an ending that will have you gasping for breath. This underrated 90s movie gives us plenty to talk about: the remarkable list of cast and crew (Mike Nichols, Ennio Morricone, etc.), conspiracy theories, and La Pfeiffer basking in a true supporting role, while reminding us how much she can convey from just a look. Join us. We don't bite...hard.

  • Happy Pfortieth, Pfeiffer Pfans! In honor of this very special Pfriday, we pfigured why not go pfull metaphor (or meta-forty, if you will). It's time to have some spiked lemonade and tell us why you don't have kids, because we are talking about MOTHER! And we are very lucky to have our own guest knocking on our door: the pfantastic horror guru Sharai Bohannon joins us to unpack the many feelings this movie brings out. From Biblical allegories to the Razzies to the delicious mischief of Michelle's performance, the three of us ride this roller coaster together from beginning to end and if we learn anything, it's to brace our sink.

  • This Pfriday, we're talking about the pros and pitfalls of parenting as seen through the eyes of the characters in I AM SAM, the 2001 drama that was probably never meant to be watched from a 2021 perspective. We've got our Starbucks firmly in hand and we have multiple points to cover for this case: is La Pfeiffer's "biggest" moment as the marshmallow-popping Rita actually her best, the breakout star turn of eight-year old Dakota Fanning, why we love Dianne Wiest, a declaration of a certain nemesis of the pod, as well as the packed and ever-changing landscape of the Supporting Actress awards field in 2001.

  • This Pfriday, step inside the classroom as we cover one of the iconic staples of the 90s: DANGEROUS MINDS. The immediately recognizable poster art, a Grammy-winning hit in Coolio's Gangta's Paradise, and Michelle's Southern ex-Marine all came together to make this one of the biggest box-office smashes of 1995 (and the biggest hit of Michelle's actor-producer career). This episode has more video store memories, the pitfalls of being formulaic, and teacher-student movies that we love and how Dangerous Minds falls amongst them. There will be a quiz after - all you have to do is try and you get a Butterfinger.

  • This Pfriday, we're pfinally talking about one of the most underrated performances in the Pfeiffer canon: Kyra Johnson in WHERE IS KYRA?, the bleak indie that brought Michelle back to movies after another four year absence. This movie carries its own special brand of horror, asking real-life questions about how to survive in a world that doesn't see you and the lengths one would go to just to keep their life from crumbling. Along with those questions, we cover this pfilm's trek from festivals to release limbo, and take a long look at the brilliant, understated work La Pfeiffer is bringing to this role.

  • Pfeiffer Pfans, sit back and let your hosts tell you a story about THE STORY OF US, a pfilm that is as askew as La Pfeiffer's bite plate (more on that in the episode). For a movie that's marketing as a harmless 90s relationship dramedy, it managed to push a lot of buttons that it had no business pushing, so expect the unexpected this episode. We take a deep look at how this movie plays to two people who have been impacted by divorce and the problems inherent in its screenwriting, in particular. As we wish this movie had taken cues from multiple other films and talk about the 90s friend type that is Julie Hagerty, we also tell some stories about us.

  • This Pfriday's episode is brought to you by the letter M: Michelle, Mercedes, and Matthew Modine all starring in the crime comedy MARRIED TO THE MOB. We are joined by the pfabulous Laura Saladino to discuss the many joys this pfilm has to offer: how refreshing it feels to watch a female-led mob movie, Michelle's sweetly unique performance, Mercedes Ruehl's unhinged hilarity, and, of course, the iconic hair and costumes. We also take a long look at the stacked actress line-ups of 1988 awards shows (including Michelle's first Golden Globe nomination), and the gift that was Jonathan Demme. It's time to Mambo Italiano.

  • This Pfriday sees the end of our Magical Michelle Miniseries. Our crossbows are out and, much like La Pfeiffer's wicked Queen Ingrith, our sights are set on the Disney sequel nobody asked for, MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL. We start once upon a time with memories of the one that started it all, Sleeping Beauty, and after a quick detour through the original Maleficent, we get to its sequel: Michelle fully channeling a long, lost Lannister, the sins committed against Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, and the crackling diva sparks that don't quite set fire to the screen. Plus, a special The Music Man bonus tangent at the end. Come hear the story and decide for yourself if this film is true love or just cursed.

  • This Pfriday's pfilm holds a very special place in both our hearts, and we would gladly let La Pfeiffer's villainous witch Lamia eat our hearts if she asked. We are going through the Wall on the magical adventure that is STARDUST! We go to Stormhold and back again, as we discuss seeing this movie in theatres, crushing on the adorable Charlie Cox, Oscar nom bafflements (no makeup? no costume design? Huh?) and, of course, the delicious and joyful evil coursing through Michelle as she plays this movie's wicked antagonist. Come get spellbound with us!

  • As we continue our exploration of Magical Michelle, we must admit this Pfriday that we hath fallen in love with an ass: Jerry for Dominic West's and Michael for Christian Bale's. However, La Pfeiffer's fairy queen Titania has fallen in love with the transforméd ass that is Kevin Kline, which means we are covering the all-star Shakespeare spectacle that is A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. This episode covers a lot of forest ground, from high school and college Shakespeare productions, to the wealth of 90s Shakespeare films, to the use of bicycles in this particular adaptation. But most importantly, we ask how it was possible to get a trio to look as beautiful as Rupert Everett, Stanley Tucci and La Pfeiffer do in this film.
