  • On this week’s episode, we welcome Dr. Joel Warsh aka @DrJoelGator of the popular parenting Instagram account. Dr. Joel is a Board-Certified Pediatrician in Los Angeles, California who specializes in Parenting, Wellness, and Integrative Medicine. He is the author of Parenting at Your Child’s Pace: The Integrative Pediatrician’s Guide to the First Three Years which releases the day we air this epsiode!

In today’s episode, we discussed Dr. Joel’s new book and some of the hot topics he shares that are pertinent to modern-day parenting. He encourages parents to ask questions and tune into their instincts when it comes to raising their children!

Dr. Joel’s refreshing approach harmoniously bridges the gap between the “right way” and the way that is right for your unique, individual child—of course, within the confines of reasonable and safe. Using the wealth of resources available to modern caregivers, this book empowers them to trust their instincts while making informed and confident choices affecting the health of their newborns and toddlers.

We discuss some controversial topics like screen time, co-sleeping, circumcision, botox during pregnancy, placenta encapsulations, and more! Dr. Joel may be a traditionally trained medical doctor, but he is known to be an outcast among his MD peers. He doesn’t shy away from talking about the stuff most doctors don’t want to talk about in hopes of reducing anxiety and fear-mongering that is all too often happening to us parents day in and day out!

Today’s podcast and his book aim to help reduce parents' anxiety so they can truly enjoy being parents and raise their children with ease!

    Topics Discussed:

Why are parents more stressed than ever before

How to reduce parents' anxiety and enjoy parenthood more

Finding the balance between real-life parenting versus relying on CDC/AAP guidelines for everything

How to find an integrative pediatrician

Navigating some controversial topics: screen time, co-sleeping, circumcision, botox during breastfeeding, placental encapsulation, and more.

The secret ingredients to Dr. Gator’s smoothie that will benefit the entire family!

Haley Scheich is the cofounder of My SuperHero Foods, a wellness brand that teaches families about the powers of real foods and the importance of what we put in our bodies. She’s a working mama of 3 kids and 3 step kids, ages 2 to 18. She’s married to Dr. Tarek Pacha, her best friend and co-founder.

Haley spent 17 years in the healthcare industry before creating My SuperHero Foods. Her first 9 years were spent at Pfizer. There she learned that so many chronic medicines aren’t needed if you change the way you eat. Food can be the real medicine. She later spent another 8 years in bioinformatics, specifically urologist cancers, and genomics.

After being introduced to yoga and healing her own body through nutrition, she discovered a disconnect between the healthcare and nutrition industries and the strength of food as medicine. Shortly after, she dropped out of her Masters in Nutrition program and began a decade-long journey of self-education.

Haley and Tarek co-authored the children’s books, My SuperHero Foods and My SuperHero Sleep as well as the breakfast cookbook Sunny Side Up and The Ultimate Guide to Avoiding Seed Oils in Your Kitchen. They also created mysuperherofoods.com, a free robust resource to help raise awareness about the power of whole foods and wellness. You can find her on Instagram @mysupherherofoods, where she continues to educate parents and caregivers on the importance of real food for all kids.

  • Mold can be a very scary and overwhelming topic for “Doctor Moms” to learn about. Yet even though complex, it shouldn’t be a topic to shy away from. Parents deserve to have the knowledge to advocate for optimal detection, testing, and remediation so they can ensure a safe home for their families.

In today’s episode, Dr. Elana interviews mold expert, Brian Karr, to share her personal story about buying a home that got flooded during escrow and how Brian helped support Dr. Elana each step of the way. We hope her story can be a teaching opportunity for other families to learn how to advocate and find solutions so they too can go to bed at night knowing they are living in a safe home.

Brian Karr is a second-generation indoor environmental consultant who specializes in working with hypersensitive individuals with complex chronic medical conditions. He helps individuals and families to understand if mold, mycotoxins, or other indoor pathogens exist in their homes that may be contributing to their health conditions, and how to remedy those issues.

Brian has become a mold & biotoxin expert to many medical practitioners across the country and has helped over 5,000 hypersensitive individuals worldwide to create healthier living environments that have allowed their doctors to help them get better.

Brian is the Co-Founder of We Inspect, the host of #moldfinders: RADIO and an expert at identifying indicators of mold growth. Including but not limited to strategic sampling, validating, and developing remedial strategies for mold growth and biotoxin production in all areas of a home or building including walls, floors, ceilings, crawl spaces, basements, attics, and HVAC systems.

If you want to equip yourself with the most up-to-date mold information - this is the episode for you!

    Topics Discussed:

Dr. Elana’s story of how she advocated for mold detection, testing, and remediation in her home
