Discussion about preventing blisters or hot spots during running or other endurance sports. I talk about shoes, socks, lubes, and treatment if blisters do surface during a race.Blisters are most often caused by skin being damaged by friction or heat. Certain medical conditions also cause blisters to appear. The damaged upper layer of skin (epidermis) tears away from the layers beneath and fluid (serum) collects in the space to create a blister.Amazon links for products mentioned:Pnrskter Blister Bandages: https://amzn.to/3EhMZvaInjinji Socks: https://amzn.to/3EgrL0J

Toenail Fungus Treatment For RunnersTips on treating toenail fungus (onchomycosis). This video is great for all types of endurance athletes such as triathletes, ultra runners, distance runners, marathoners, and cyclists. A fungal nail infection is a common condition that can leave you with brittle, discolored nails, which is usually on your toes. It is very common for trail runners. Toe nail fungus is a lot like athlete’s foot. But instead of affecting the skin on the bottom of your feet or between your toes, it invades your nails. The FDA has approved the use of tolnaftate for the treatment and prevention of athlete’s foot and ringworm for over 50 years. Tolnaftate is used in well over 70 products worldwide. Formula 3 is not a suspension compound like many other products. The product has received the American Podiatric Medical Association’s Seal of Approval. For best results, It is recommended to apply fast-acting, quick-absorbing Formula 3® Antifungal after taking a shower when the skin has the greatest capacity for absorption.Common types of toe nail fungus:A yeast toenail infection is usually white, a mold infection is generally a dull brown, and a dermatophyte infection is generally yellow.

Texas Endurance 48 HR Race Recap which gives details on my challenges and strategy for winning the men's race in Fort Worth, Texas.About this race courtesy Wrath Racing website:"The 48-hour and 24-Hour at the Texas Endurance Runs are definitely not for the faint of heart, that's for sure! Runners need to be heat acclimated to make headway during the day, and need to have a good race plan to maximize the cooler nights. But in some ways the crazy heat is kind of the point - the runners form friendships in the face of adversity that they otherwise wouldn't or couldn't. For someone new to the sport, those kinds of connections to veterans, and the tips and stories they share, could be invaluable. For the first 8 years of the race, it was 'by invitation' only - you had to know the RD or one of their friends to get an invitation to run, so we had an idea whether you could handle the race. The original race was a Fat-Ass event with no permits and no shirts. Runners camped in the yard, and ran through the neighborhood and local park. John & Kay donated ice, water, and a location, and any snacks or sodas they had lying around the house.WRATH Racing is a small business. Our events have a 6-year pay-back horizon, meaning that they are expected to lose money for the first 2-3 years, before gradually starting to earn money each year, and (hopefully) break even overall by the 6th year. None of our events has yet reached the payback horizon, so any cancellations, postponements, or changes in registration numbers will result in a monetary loss for the company, especially if it occurs close to the event date. Some expenses are paid several months prior to the event, and may be non-refundable (ie Permit applications, Special Event fees, Sanctions, venue deposits & timing deposits) Medals and ribbon are typically ordered 45 days prior to the event and are non-refundable. Depending upon the design, they might not be able to be used the next year. T-shirts and other swag are generally ordered 2-3 weeks prior to the event. Depending upon the design, they might not be able to be used the next year. Aid station items, with the exception of fresh fruit and ice, are generally purchased 1 week prior to the event. Depending upon the item, it may expire before we can serve it at another WRATH Racing event. That being said, our company's future depends upon treating our runners well, even when circumstances are beyond our control. We are runners too, and we've designed our policies to treat you the way we would want to be treated. "

My race report for the 2023 Arkansas Traveller 100 miler which took place on Oct 7 & 8, 2023 near Perryville, Arkansas.
Original video on Youtube : Richard Runs Trails
This was my third time running this race. I give some advice and strategy then some details about the aidstations and location of my drop bags. The closest city with hotels is Morrilton, Arkansas. I give some advice on the hotels in town. From the AT 100 website: The Arkansas Traveller is one of the oldest 100 miles races there is, already having 32 races. AT100 is unique among the many ultras today because of the combination of volunteer support from many in the running community and beyond, the beautiful scenery of the Ouachita Trail and Forest Service roads, and the difficult runnable hills that will challenge you from beginning to end. This race is considered by many to be a great first 100 for anyone looking to test themselves at the premier ultra distance. The Arkansas Traveller course has remained almost exactly the same throughout its history. Two minor variances have occurred-both of which are merely trivial. For the first seven years, the race started at the site of the Lake Sylvia aid station and finished at the entrance to the Lake Sylvia park-where race headquarters was located. In 1998, due to repairs underway at the park, the race headquarters and finish were moved just over a half mile up the road to Camp Ouachita, with the starting point being adjusted accordingly. Beginning in 2001, the Turnaround aid station was moved approximately 200 yards to enable the start and finish to be at the same location. The Ouachita National Forest is the oldest National Forest in the southern United States. The forest encompasses 1,784,457 acres.Arkansas Traveller 100 is a Western States 100 qualifier.
