Who is Sherri Symons
5th generation farmer from Southwest Victoria. Wool classer of 18 years. Trainer of Agriculture and wool classing at the local cafe. Owner of Aussie Wool Pellets. An innovation to utilize otherwise waste wool to create a slow-release nitrogen fertilizer, that has multiple benefits to the soil.
One of my recent posts has one that's classic SherriHow amazing wool is. The wool I'm using is not wool that we wear but rather wool that used to be used as insulation and carpet but society and business sent it overseas and now as a farmer, we can not cover the costs associated with shearing with the sale of our wool so something needed to be done incorporating wool pellets into the soil no matter what type of soil you have can be beneficial.

Together, they explore the biological advantages of happy soils and the urgent need to revolutionize our agricultural practices. From exploring the parallels between soil health and human well-being to shedding light on the detrimental impact of certain agricultural chemicals, this episode is a captivating journey into the world of regenerative agriculture.
We had a thought-provoking conversation about the biological advantages of happy soils and the urgent need to prioritize soil health for a sustainable future.
Here are three key takeaways from our discussion:
1. Soil Health Impacts Everything: Soil health is not only crucial for agricultural success but also plays a vital role in environmental and human health. We discussed how the use of agricultural chemicals can impact soil and plant communication pathways, emphasizing the need for regenerative rehab programs to detox and improve soil health. This directly correlates with the gut biome in humans, highlighting the interconnectedness of all living systems.

The purpose of Urban Green Farms is to create awareness and action around the things that matter the most. The human species needs to adapt and evolve into a much more collective community that embraces the fact that our natural resources are precious and need to be protected. Our approach is to supplement conventional farming until it is permanently replaced with regenerative agricultural methods. Our pillars are simple and based on five important elements; food security, combat climate change, eating local, eating clean and protecting our future generations.
Founder, Andrew Meseha has spent years working in Australia, USA, New Zealand and across Asia in the Hydroponics and aquaponics Industry. His passion and desire to see a healthy and sustainable planet led to the inception of Urban Green Farms. This week I am sharing a podcast I was interviewed on so I am in the guest seat!
Remember, we all have the power to shape the future of our food system. Let's make choices that nourish the soil, our bodies, and our planet.
Here are 3 key takeaways from our conversation on how to improve soil health and create a sustainable food system:
1️⃣ Biodiversity is crucial: I emphasized that promoting biodiversity is a key principle of regenerative farming. Monoculture soy farms harm wildlife, while regenerative farms with diverse crops and animals actually support wildlife conservation. Let's prioritize biodiversity in our agricultural practices for the benefit of both nature and ourselves.
2️⃣ Choose better food, for yourself and the environment: I pointed out that the current price system for organic food is an illusion. Paying more for higher nutritional value and quality is actually cheaper in the long run. By supporting farmers who practice regenerative farming and avoiding mass-produced, chemically-treated food, we can contribute to a healthier food system.
3️⃣ Take control of your choices: Consumers have the power to drive change in the food system. By buying directly from farmers, asking questions about the origin and production methods of your food, and supporting innovative post-COVID food access solutions, we can create a demand for healthier, sustainably-grown food. Let's make conscious buying decisions and be part of the positive change we want to see in the world.

🎙️ In this episode, we dive deep into the importance of understanding soil context, reducing soil disturbance, and protecting the soil. Here are the three key takeaways from our discussion:
1️⃣ Context is Key: Soil health is intricately connected to climate, water management, energy, and finance. By understanding these factors in relation to soil health, we can make informed decisions and set realistic goals for regenerative practices.
2️⃣ Reduce Soil Disturbance: Tillage and uncontrolled traffic can destroy soil structure and function. Instead, we explore the benefits of no-till practices, controlled traffic, and precision GPS technology to minimize soil compaction and preserve soil health.
3️⃣ Protect the Soil: A vital principle of regenerative agriculture is to protect the soil surface from oxidation and erosion. By creating a cover or litter on the soil surface, we can improve water infiltration, reduce evaporation, and provide a habitat for beneficial soil microbes. Soil health is crucial for sustainable agriculture and food production.
By implementing these principles, we can not only improve soil fertility but also increase water-holding capacity, infiltration rates, and overall productivity.
Check out the podcast episode for more valuable insights, examples from real-world farms, and a sneak peek into our upcoming project. Stay tuned for exciting updates!

🌱 Excited to share that I had the honour of being interviewed by Annie Huang from BudLife Magazine for their next issue.
It was an amazing conversation about the wonders of soil and its secrets. 🌱
Here are 3 key takeaways from the episode:
1️⃣ Soil is a living organism: Unlike dirt, soil is teeming with life and plays a crucial role in our ecosystem. It's essential to treat soil with love and care, just like we do with animals or children. The health of soil directly impacts the health of plants, animals, and even our gut biome.
2️⃣ Rethinking traditional approaches: I believe in questioning traditional research methods when it comes to understanding soil. Recent scientific findings have shown that trees communicate and are interconnected through the mycelium network in soil. By embracing this shift in thinking, we can uncover surprising information and unlock the true potential of our soil.
3️⃣ Connecting with soil through art: Our disconnection from soil can be attributed to societal influences and a fear of germs. But just like our innate creativity, our connection to soil is a part of our nature. I encourage everyone to explore art as a way to reconnect with our environment and regain that sense of creativity and connection. I
