  • We've made it to 150 episodes! Thank you so much to everyone who has been along for the ride that is SlashU for these last 4 years. We've come a long way from a dinky little poorly recorded podcast all the way to a much better sounding dinky little podcast. And this week we decided to tackle one of the best all-time OG Slashers that spawned so many things throughout this wonderful genre that we love. We're talking about 1980's "Friday the 13th." It's only fitting to cover a classic in celebration of our 150th 'canon' episode. When a group of camp counselors set out to fix up old, closed-down Camp Crystal Lake, they discover someone doesn't want the camp to reopen. Someone who will go to any extreme to keep the camp from opening, even murder.

  • This week we were at our first Horror Convention. It was Horror Fiesta in Peoria, Illinois. It was also the first horror convention for the town! So we were happy to be in on the ground floor as Peoria builds up and honors their horror/slasher community. We recorded a few segments right from the convention floor, just talking and reacting to the things we saw and even had some of the people speak up on the mic. This was a great time and we hope we picked up a few new followers/listeners. We are definitely going back if they do this again and we would definitely try to hit up other conventions (assuming they are affordable and easy to drive to). But check it out, let us know what you think, and get ready for episode 150 coming soon!

  • On this week's episode, we're bringing you another special interview. We sat down with Calvin Marie McCarthy, the writer/director of "Pillow Party Massacre." He talked to us about making that movie as well as tons of other projects. We discussed his time working on low-budget horror, working with a familiar cast and crew of people, and how he thinks this genre has evolved over time. Calvin's been involved in this industry in one way or another since a very young age and we thank him very much for taking the time to sit and talk with us here at SlashU.

  • This week we sat down with someone we consider to be low-budget horror royalty. It's Jeremy Sumrall. We know him best here at SlashU for playing The Beast in 2009's "Sweatshop" but he's done tons of other great things! So we got Jeremy on the line and decided to talk all about it for about an hour. He told great stories of how he started out, how he wound up in both "Sweatshop" and "Axe Murdering with Hackley." He talked about how sometimes the best thing you can do in making films is just 'show up' and be helpful and be grateful for every opportunity. Check it out and let us know what you think, and go show Jeremy some love.

  • We went pretty basic this week and also handled our first Creature Feature. Still a Slasher movie at heart, we talked about "Don't F*** in the Woods." It's a very simple movie premise. A group of campers are in the forest for a weekend of partying. Anyone who engages in intercourse becomes victim to a creature attracted by sex. And that's it. There's a sequel though, so stay tuned for that!

  • This week we found another goofy, campy slasher to dive into. It's "Slashorette Party" from 2020. The story centers around Brie, a young bride-to-be who might be having a case of cold feet. Her friends throw her a surprise Bachelorette Party in a cabin out in the woods. But they get surprised by uninvited guests who begin picking off the partygoers. It's a slow burn at first but then it cuts loose. Let us know what you think!

  • We debut Season 9 this week! I know, it just snuck up on all of us. But we felt like we had been hanging out in Season 8 for a long time. And it was time to start fresh as we round out the summer. This week we brought you one from 2023, but it's set in the 80s. "Murdercise" takes place when it was a simpler time, when a workout video full of attractive women doing squats would have made a million dollars. We follow Phoebe on her quest to bring fitness to the nation by killing anyone who gets in her way. It's a whacky ride that doesn't take itself too seriously. So it's perfect for SlashU.

  • We're back to wrap up Shark Week here on SlashU. Another year, another couple of bad Shark movies in the books. This week we took on 2016's "Planet of the Sharks." It's another one where climate change has melted all the ice and 98% of the planet is covered in water. Sharks are the dominant species on the face of the earth and they've formed a massive super school. All the sharks are being controlled by a mutated Alpha Shark. A team of humans must band together to fight off the sharks while trying to launch a rocket into the atmosphere to clean off excess CO2 and help bring back some land to live on. It's a wild ride that makes no sense.

  • It's time again for Shark Week here on SlashU, where we each take a pick at a cheesy, campy, sometimes terrible movie where a Shark is the killer. This week is professor Nick's pick, Ice Sharks from 2016. A group of scientists are studying climate change at a remote research station in the Arctic. They soon discover that warming waters have allowed a new breed of sharks to invade the area, picking off any living thing that comes too close to the edge of the ice. They have to escape their research station before they are trapped and become lunch.

  • This week we went back to summer camp to tackle Final Summer from 2023. After a horrible tragedy at Camp Silver Lake, the counselors try to move on and clean up the camp at the end of the season. As it turns out, the camp is going to be sold off to a developer. So this is their "Final Summer" together as a group. But a killer is stalking the campers picking them off one by one. Is the killer out for revenge somehow? Or just a psycho? Listen and find out!

  • Oh wow, we picked a doozy this week. Go check out the cover art for "Pillow Party Massacre" from 2023 and compare it to "Slumber Party Massacre" from 1982. They're very, very similar. But since this movie is not nearly as good as the 1982 classic, I'm sure no one got sued over it. Our story centers around a group of friends trying to move past an April Fools' Day prank gone wrong from 2 years ago. But a killer holding a grudge isn't ready to leave the past behind. And as a result we get a movie that's so bad it's good, and your professors have a ton of fun tearing it apart.

  • This week we improvised a clip show. Nick's out of town and there wasn't time to record. We're not professionals. But we each picked our top 3 favorite movies and here's a clip show featuring highlights from those past SlashU episodes. It's a nice little walk down memory lane and a chance to hear how the show has grown and changed over the years. This would be a great episode to listen to if you're a new listener. You'll definitely get a taste for what we're all about here at SlashU.

  • We stayed in the 80s this week with another campy classic. "Evil Laugh" is the story of a group of medical students who are looking to buy and restore and old foster home. The catch is that there was a murder in this foster home ten years prior and rumor has it the killer is still on the loose. We get all the great stereotypes you could ask for in this one, including a wonderful 80s music montage. Let us know what you think.

  • We've got another 80's classic to talk about this week. "He Knows You're Alone" from 1980 takes us on a journey with Amy Jensen. She's a young bride-to-be who's getting ready for her big wedding day coming up in 2 weeks. But a killer is on the loose who targets young ladies about to get married and their friends (a very specific demographic to be targeting). Detective Les Gamble is on the case, he has history with this killer. But can he stop the maniac in time to save Amy? We'll talk about it here.

  • This week we finally got back to our regular format where we watched a cheesy, campy, sometimes forgotten slasher movie and we're going to break it down. We took on 1982's "Fanatic: The Last Horror Film." The story centers around Vinny Durand, a fan obsessed with a horror starlet Jana Bates. He's an aspiring director and he's got the perfect film for Jana. But he's a nobody. So Vinny gets to Cannes Film Festival in France to try and pitch his movie to Jana. Only he discovers he has to go through agents and producers, and Jana's ex-husband Bret. And people start getting killed left and right. Has Vinny gone too far?

  • This week we had a special treat. We got to do a little Behind the Scenes stuff for the Murder Cabin movie. We spent all of Memorial Day Weekend filming the bulk of the movie and it was intense! But don't worry, we also had a ton of fun in the process and made some great memories. Check the show notes below for links to all the great other stuff our cast and crew are doing.

  • It's all come down to this! Our first-ever Slasher Madness 16 team bracket style tournament that pits some of our favorite Slashers against each other FINALLY comes to a conclusion. We're discussing the winner and ultimate slasher (out of the 16 movies we chose for this tournament) and we'd love your help! It's Chromeskull from the "Laid to Rest" series versus Victor Crowley from the "Hatchet" series. Although Victor's victory over The Beast last week is hotly contested. We're going to set out to figure out who wins this matchup. Feel free to let us know what you think.

  • Well we're getting right down to the home stretch of our Slasher Madness 16 team bracket-style tournament. We've pitted some of the most talented Slashers from movies we've watched here at SlashU against each other. We're down to the Final Four teams facing off to decide who goes head-to-head in the championship. This week we debate everyone's favorite little tumor Belial Bradley from "Basket Case" versus the formidable Chromeskull from the "Laid to Rest" series. And after that we've got one of our toughest matchups to date, Victor Crowley from the "Hatchet" series versus The Beast from "Sweatshop." We never said this would be easy.

As always, we'd love to hear from you!
