We all have them - Goals! However, sometimes people can get caught up in a hustle culture trying to achieve their goals. Which in the end, leads to unhappiness.

    Today we are talking about:

What happens once you achieve your goals? What is arrival fallacy? What is wrong with S.M.A.R.T. goals?

Today we are talking about the last phase in our Slow Parenting Series, the adult years and estrangement.

Estrangement happens later in life when a family member cuts off another family member. This could be an adult child deciding to distant themselves from a parent or relative. Many times it is because the adult child is attempting to protect themselves.

So... how do you keep your children from becoming estranged from you?

Clinical psychologist Lindsay C. Gibson wrote the book "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" where she talks about the four types of difficult parents. I am sharing with you more detail on these parenting types and how they can lead to estrangement in the adult childhood years.

The emotional parentThe driven parentThe passive parentThe rejecting parent

There are many ways to prevent them from becoming estranged, one of the most simple is having good communication. Say your sorry, show humility, and really work on yourself!

Learn more about the four types of parents from Lindsay C. Gibson in her book, Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents.

The definition of disappointment is when your expectations don't meet the reality and this happens a lot of the time. Many times it happens when we have reached our capacity limit.

Day to day your capacity can change, depending on many variables that you can't control.

You are not a computer or a cell phone -- you're a human and "recharging" your battery isn't always super simple.

Within this episode we talk about what you can do to recharge yourself and how to protect your boundaries from others who may be draining.

I also talk about a "Bucket Filling" book that my children read in school -- and one that is a great metaphor for life.

At the end of the day, you can really only rely on and control yourself.

So go slow and Simply. Look. Only. Within.

  • This this episode of our Slow Parenting Series we are talking about emotional regulation and how we can teach this to our children.

To be able to teach emotional regulation to your kids you need to be able to self regulate your own emotions. It is not healthy for children to be in an environment that their caretakers lash out in ways that they can't expect. So you need to take a minute a look within! Where you are is where you are, where you are is not where you want to be and where you want to go. Slow living is about taking steps to get to where you want to go.

How do you teach emotional regulation to your kids if your not emotionally regulated yourself?

How to implement in your own family?

Let's talk about how you can regulate your emotions so that you can be the best version of yourself to teach your own children.
