Alexandra Leatu is the Head Women’s Tennis Coach at Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC. She strives to develop a team culture that focuses on selflessness, character before performance, discipline and enjoyment of the game all in an open, safe environment for her players. As a former athlete herself at Vanderbilt and Baylor, she was inspired to go into coaching due to her experiences with two male coaches and feeling there were pieces missing to the student athlete experience she should’ve had just because of a lack of understanding of female athletes. She loves the challenge of breaking down walls and rebuilding them up stronger with all of her student athletes, passionate about proving the journey and process of rebuilding is more important than reaching the peak of success. Away from the courts and gym, she loves to go on outdoor adventures with her fiancé Matt, spend quality time with her family and friends, and unwinding after a long day with a of glass red.
In this conversation, Alex and I sit down and talk about long-distance, unshakeable connections, keeping the faith, and getting activated to compete.
